NWF: PAIN STATE UNIVERSITY PREVIEW
Friday, March 24, 2000
8 PM - White Building, Penn State campus
FREE ADMISSION
We are coming down to the eleventh hour wrestling fans as the Nittany
Wrestling Federation's next free-per-view spectacular, "Pain State
University" is less than three days away! The event will be held this
Friday, March 24th, at 8 PM, in the White Building in State College,
PA, on the campus of Penn State University.
TAG TEAM "NITTANY LADDER MATCH": NWF CHAMPION TOMMY GOLDEN/UNIVERSITY
PARK CHAMPION FUMAR (w/Kristy Kiss & Pamella Michelle Stevens) vs. "TOO
PHAT" YUTZAK ARAFAT/DAVE DESIRE! BOTH TITLES ON THE LINE.
The main event for "Pain State" is scheduled to be a special tag team
"Nittany Ladder Match" with NWF Heavyweight Champion Tommy Golden and
University Park Champion Fumar taking on the team of "Too Phat" Yutzak
Arafat and "Livewire" Dave Desire. Both titles will be suspended high
above the ring, and the stipulations for the match state that Arafat
and Golden must try to pull down the Heavyweight Title, while Desire
and Fumar must try to pull down the UP Title. Whatever team member
retrieves the proper belt first will win the match! This is a very
unique match to say the least, and the possibile outcomes are very
intriguing.
Both tag teams have a long and deep-rooted history of animosity and ill
will toward each other. The bad blood between Arafat and Fumar can be
traced back to VIP of last year when Fumar turned his back on Arafat
and the loyal NWF fans by joining forces with the Rutgers Revolution.
The two men would fight that night in the first NWF ladder match, with
both the NWF and University Park Titles on the line. Arafat was able to
climb the ladder of success and become the first dual champion in the
NWF. It took nearly a year for Fumar to regain the University Park
Title when he defeated "Nittany Lion" Nick Mason at the last NWF event,
but the memory of that painful defeat at the hands of Arafat still
looms prominently in the mind of Fumar. Not to mention that there is
plenty of hatred that exists between Fumar and "LiveWire" Dave Desire
as well. The two men fought in a brutal hardcore match a few months
back that still has people talking in the NWF.
Meanwhile no one can deny the bad blood that exists between Arafat and
Golden. The two men kicked off a bitter rivalry when Golden set up an
elaborate hoax about Arafat's girlfriend being in a terrible car
accident and life-flighted to the hospital before their NWF Title match
at Y2K in January. Arafat left the NWF Arena immediately and went to
the hospital, but the referee was forced to declare the match a forfeit
and award the NWF Title to Golden. Arafat was able to gain some measure
of revenge against Golden last month when he refereed Golden's NWF
Title match against Dave Desire, and Desire captured the NWF Title for
the second time. However that revenge was short-lived as Golden and
Fumar teamed up with Joe Rules and Rick Silver to first screw Desire
and Arafat out of the NWF Titles in the three-way dance tag match. Then
Rutgers Revolution was able to take it one step further when Fumar
knocked Desire out with ether before his rematch with Golden for the
NWF Title that night. Golden manhandled the unconscious Desire and
recaptured the NWF Title once again.
Clearly the stakes are high in this match as both titles are on the
line. And with the news that Arafat and Golden got into a brawl at a
recent IWA event, the intensity has never been higher either. Will it
finally be time for Penn State to get the upperhand against The Rutgers
Revolution? Or will this be another dark day in Happy Valley? Only time
will tell.
NWF TAG TEAM TITLES: JOE RULES/RICK SILVER (w/Luxurious Lynne) vs. THE
DAMNED
The NWF Tag Team Champions "Sterling" Rick Silver and "As Seen on TV"
Joe Rules will be making their first defense at "Pain State" as the
pair from Rutgers will be taking on "The Damned." "The Damned" which
consists of Draven and Praxxus, made their NWF debuts at the last event
in singles competition. Draven was defeated by Jimmy Deo, and Draven
lost to Don Juan Desanto. But both men showed off their talent and the
beating that they inflicted on Don Juan Desanto after his match was
evidence that they have the drive to go far in the NWF. The pair have
also tagged together on the indy circuit regularly so they will not be
easy opponents for Silver and Rules.
DON JUAN DESANTO vs. "MANIAC" JIMMY DEO
Also slated on the card Don Juan Desanto will now take on "Maniac"
Jimmy Deo. The two had been scheduled to team up together to take on
The Damned in a tag team match, but Jimmy Deo would have no part of
that. He said that he hated Desanto and everything he stood for, and he
challenged him to a match, setting up what should be an interesting
encounter. Desanto is very agile for a big man, with his top rope
moonsault being a big part of his arsenal. But as we all know Mr. Deo
is a great proponent of the "old school" style of wrestling, and he has
been on a winning streak in the NWF.
POWERHOUSE HUGHES vs. GENERAL MASSACRE
Current Universal Wrestling Alliance AND current United Wrestling
Alliance Heavyweight Champion Powerhouse Hughes was scheduled to make
his NWF debut against Hentai at the last NWF event, but due to Hentai's
injury and also some technical problems with Hughes that match was not
able to take place. However the NWF front offices have confirmed that
Hughes and Massacre will both be making their NWF debuts at "Pain
State." The 6'8" Hughes has established himself as one of the top
wrestlers in the Pittsburgh area, and he has even made an appearance on
Monday Night Raw in a brawl against the Acolytes. But will The 'House
be able to defeat a man in Massacre who is just as large as and strong
as he is? We'll find out at "Pain State."
LITTLE DIXIE vs. DERRICK DESTINY
These two high-flyers will be making their NWF debuts at "Pain State."
Both are willing to take their game to incredible heights to win a
match and impress the crowd, so the NWF fans should be in for a treat
when Little Dixie and Derrick Destiny lock up at Pain State.

News from the Big 3: TUESDAY, MARCH 21, 2000
<<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>>
except from Dave Meltzer and wrestlingobserver.com:
NEW JERSEY WANTS TO REGULATE 'EXTREME WRESTLING'
"After a Newark Star-Ledger front page story on Sunday on Jersey All
Pro Wrestling (you know, the blood and barbarism and with quotes from
young kids watching), Gov. Christine Whitman of New Jersey's office is
contemplating some sort of legislation of pro wrestling. It appears
they want to regulate what they call "extreme wrestling" but leave the
WWF out. It's a really tricky issue since much of what the newspaper
complained about (in fact, everything except cheese graters and mouse
traps) has taken place in WWF rings as well. The newspaper today ran a
second front page story talking about the proposed legislation and ran
an ill-informed editorial talking about banning Extreme Wrestling and
Ultimate Fighting (as if that has anything to do with this story)."

THE ROCK ON SNL
The Rock guest-hosted Saturday Night Live this past weekend, and
appearances were also made on the program by Vince McMahon, Triple H,
Big Show, and Mick Foley. McMahon even got to speak the famous lines
"Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"
The program was one of the funniest in recent memory, as The Rock
displayed quite a lot of versatility taking on various types of skits,
including in drag with the "Ladies Man," as Mr. Peepers' father,
himself on a daytime talk show, in a commercial for a spoof of an
Italia mafia called the "Goombah's", as "Nicotrel," as Superman/Clark
Kent, and others.
Big Show even got rave reviews for displaying some character and
charisma, something that most people didn't think he had, in the brief
amount of time he was on the program. In fact Conan O'Brien, who films
his late night talk show in the same building, was so impressed that he
has lined up the Big Show as a guest on Thursday night. That would
follow The Rock who will be Jay Leno's guest the same night.
All in all the edition of SNL did an 8.3 rating and 21 share, its best
rating since an episode in May with Monica Lewinsky and Ricky Martin.

BEYOND THE MAT OPENING WEEKEND
Beyond the Mat, the wrestling documentary by Barry Blaustein opened
strongly this past weekend as they aired the film on 298 movie screens
around the country. The movie had an opening gross of $950,000 or
$3,188 per screen. The movie opened against tough competition from
Julia Roberts new film Erin Brokovich, Mission to Mars and Final
Destination. Though it was not expected to be a big blockbuster like
the major studio releases just mentioned, Lions Gate films was pleased
with the opening weekend numbers and reports that the movie did its
strongest business in New York City but showed surprising strength in
the Mid-West.

KEEPIN' IT REAL
by B-Real
Welcome back to this, the NWF newsletter edition of Keepin' It Real.
For those of you new to this column, be sure to check out my homepage,
Always Keepin It Real, for the full-length version, along with other
stuff such as tape trading, Indy Conversations, and more. Enough
plugging, on to the column.
Pain State is almost upon us, and it seems like there has been little
to no fanfare for what I consider an excellent card, headlined by a
intriguing ladder match. NWF champion Tommy Golden and UP titleholder
Fumar will face "Livewire" Dave Desire and "Too Phat" Yutzak Arafat. We
all saw what Fumar and Arafat did in that ladder match at last year's
VIP, and including Desire and Golden will only add fuel to the fire.
There are some very unique stipulations concerning the titles that will
be hung above the ring; be sure to check out the NWF homepage for all
the details. I will throw a prediction out there and claim that Tommy
Golden and Fumar will find a way to come out on top; they have The
Revolution waiting in the wings, and they have the womanly charms of
Pamela Michelle Stevens, Luxurious Lynne, and Kristi Kiss. Arafat and
Desire better have some sort of gameplan, as the numbers are clearly
not in their favor.
"Sterling" Rick Silver and "As Seen on TV" Joe Rules will defend their
NWF tag-titles against a duo who saw singles action at last month's
show, The Damned. Draven and Praxxis hold the power advantage, as Rick
Silver will have a hard time matching strength with the demented
Damned. On a side note, would Jim Ross call The Damned, "The Damned
Damned"? Just a thought. Anyways, despite the power edge, I look for
Silver and Rules to stoop to new lows to retain their titles.
"Mr. Old School", Maniac Jimmy Deo will be making another appearance in
the NWF, facing Don Juan DeSantos. Deo has been having his problems
with Lou E. Dangerously and Roadkill in the IWA, and might be looking
to take out his frustrations on Don Juan. Don Juan is bigger and
faster, but no one knows more about the game than Deo, who will look to
slow it down and make it old school, something the NWF fans loved last
month. Let's see if it will work against the man who claims to hail
from bedrooms and couches everywhere. Other action will see NWF
newcomers, as Powerhouse Hughes faces General Massacre and Little Dixie
goes up against Derrick Destiny. Sight unseen I can't offer an opinion,
but with the track record of NWF promoters bringing in top-notch
talent, I expect some solid action from all four men.
There you have it, my take on Pain State. Feel free to drop me a line
with your views, and be sure to check out my website. Until next time,
Keep It Real.
