NWF: RETRIBUTION
Friday, April 7, 2000
8:30 PM - White Building, Penn State campus
FREE ADMISSION

Wrestling fans, you have only two more chances to see the NWF this
school year as the next NWF show will be held this Friday, April 7,
and will be called "Retribution." Start time is 8:30, and the event
will take place in the White Building on the Penn State
campus. "Retribution" will be a special "Fan Appreciation Night" for
all of the NWF's loyal fans, because without them the NWF would not
be as successful as it is.

#1 CONTENDER FOR THE NWF TITLE TOURNAMENT
The NWF executive committee has announced plans for a special four-
man elimination tournament to crown the #1 contender for Tommy
Golden's NWF Heavyweight Championship. The winner of this tournament
will go on to face Golden at VIP: Very Intense Punishment, later this
mont for the NWF Title! First round matches will include "Too Phat"
Yutzak Arafat taking on "As Seen on TV" Joe Rules, and in the other
match "Nittany Lion" Nick Mason will face "Dancing" Don Juan Desanto.
Here is some background information about each of the participants in
the tournament!

ROUND #1: "TOO PHAT" YUTZAK ARAFAR vs. "AS SEEN ON TV" JOE RULES

"TOO PHAT" YUTZAK ARAFAT - Arafat is one of only two men to hold the
NWF's Triple Crown: the NWF Heavyweight Title, University Park Title,
and NWF Tag Team Titles. Arafat had been the NWF Heavyweight Champion
since defeating "LiveWire" Dave Desire for the strap last on March
21, 1999. But he was stripped of the title on January 15th of this
year after Tommy Golden had orchestrated an intricate scheme
involving a phony note saying Arafat's girlfriend had been injured in
a horrific car accident and taken to a hospital. Arafat left the
arena for the hospital, and when he failed to show for the title
match, Golden was awarded the NWF Title by forfeit. Ever since that
moment, Arafat has been on a mission to get revenge on Golden and
also regain the NWF Title. He attempted to screw Golden in February
at "Penn State Playoff" by acting as the special referee and helping
his friend "LiveWire" Dave Desire defeat Golden for the belt.
However, Golden was able to steal a win later in the night against
Desire to win the belt back. Also at "Playoff" Golden officially
joined forces with the Rutgers Revolution, and he helped Joe Rules
and Rick Silver win the NWF Tag Team Titles from Arafat and Desire.
At the last event, "Pain State University," the feud between Arafat
and Golden continued as Arafat teamed up with Desire, and Golden
teamed up with Fumar to fight in the "Nittany Ladder Match." They put
on perhaps the greatest match in NWF history, and it came down to
both Desire and Arafat climbing the ladders at the end to retrieve
their respective belts. However, Golden came back into the ring and
rather than risk losing the match to his hated enemy, Arafat
sacrificed his chance to retrieve the NWF Title, took out Golden, and
allowed Desire to retrieve the UP Title and end the match. Arafat
promised Golden that he would get his revenge against him soon
enough, but a sizable roadblock has been placed in front of him by
the NWF Executive Committee. He is going to have to prove that he is
worthy of another shot at the NWF Title as he has been placed into
this tournament to crown Golden's opponent at "VIP" later this month.
There is no doubt that Arafat has the potential to win this
tournament, but with all he has been through against Golden, and with
the emotional and physical toll of the "Nittany Ladder Match" still
fresh in his mind, will he still have enough gas to survive and win
it?

"AS SEEN ON TV" JOE RULES - Former NWF Tag Team Champion and also
former University Park Champion Joe Rules enters the tournament with
a very good shot at winning it all. Afterall, Rules has been named to
Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Top 500 Wrestlers in the World three
years in a row. He has been a champion in other promotions besides
the NWF as well. He has appeared on the "Jerry Springer Show." And
maybe even more important than all of those accolades, is the fact
that Joe Rules has Luxurious Lynne in his corner, and the support of
the Rutgers Revolution as well. We have seen in the past what that
kind of support can do for members of the Rutgers Revolution as at
one time they held all of the belts in the NWF before Rules and
Silver lost the tag straps and Fumar lost the UP Title at the last
show. But in a tournamnet where Rules only needs to win two matches,
anything is possible.

ROUND #1: "NITTANY LION" NICK MASON vs. DON JUAN DESANTO

"NITTANY LION" NICK MASON - "Nittany Lion" Nick will be making his
return to the NWF in this tournament. Nick, the former mascot for
Penn State University, was last seen at "Playoff" back on February 11
when he lost the University Park Title to Fumar in controversial
fashion. Mason was furious with the loss, and in an uncharacteristic
show of angle, hurled a chair down the aisle on his way back to the
locker room after the match. Word has it that Mason, upon hearing
about this tournament to crown Golden's opponent at "VIP", jumped at
the opportunity. Mason, like Arafat, has a history with Golden as
well, but not as gory. In fact it was Mason who defeated Golden back
in his debut match with the NWF. It was also Mason that was declared
a "tie" winner with Golden in a battle royal to determine Arafat's
opponent for the NWF Title at Y2K in January. Most people even
thought that Mason had won the battle royal outright, but when Arafat
came out and said he would give both men a title match that night, he
took the deal anyway. Arafat and Mason wrestled first, and after an
even-match, it was Arafat who came out on top and retained the title,
only to be stripped of the belt later that night and the gold awarded
to Golden. Mason clearly has a great chance to win the tournament,
and if he can get by the steep competition, and with a win over
Golden already. he also has a great shot at becoming the next NWF
Champion at "VIP."

DON JUAN DESANTO - Don Juan Desanto made his NWF debut back in the
fall on November 13 at "Campus Chaos." That night he tagged with Dr.
Heresy and the two men took on the team of Fumar and Rick Silver in
the finals of the NWF Tag Team Tournament in a best-of-three falls
match. Desanto and Heresy won the first fall, and they had chances to
win the next both of the next two falls, but Rick Silver's tennis
racket was the deciding difference and they lost the match and also
their chance to become the first-ever NWF Tag Team Champions. The two
men, dubbed "Mind & Matter," tagged up against six days later
at "State Penn" and this time were victorious as they defeated the
team of Goggles Pizanne and Mantis. After an injury sidelined Heresy,
Desanto made his return to the NWF as a singles competitor
at "Playoff" on February 11 when he defeated future NWF Tag Team
Champion Draven. Desanto has incredible size and strength, but he is
also very agile for a big man, as witnessed by the fact that the top-
rope moonsault is a big part of his arsenal. Desanto was on the cusp
of winning NWF gold before with the NWF Tag Titles, and if any man
can put a string of wins together and a make a run at winning the
tournament, Desanto surely has what it takes.

SPECIAL CHALLENGE MATCH: FUMAR vs. REFEREE TOM
Another match that has been brewing for "Retribution" is suprising to
say the least. In last Wednesday's edition of the newsletter, we
spoke about the big rumor that there is heat between Fumar and
Referee Tom and that the two got into a confrontation after "Pain
State" and had to be separated from each other. It is believed that
Fumar took exception to Referee Tom trying to climb the ladder and
retrieve the titles during the "Nittany Ladder" tag match and had
some not-so-kind words for the NWF official. You may recall that
there is a history between these two men, as Fumar pasted Referee Tom
with a brutal chair shot a few shows back. Now Referee Tom has asked
for a match against Fumar, and the NWF Executive Committee has
answered! The two will lock up at "Retribution" and one would suspect
that Referee Tom would be a serious underdog to the more experienced
in-ring performer in Fumar. But Tom is a student of the game, a man
who has refereed countless matches, especially matches against Fumar.
He knows what kind of weaknesses Fumar may have, and with a little
luck Referee Tom may be just the man to exploit the weaknesses of
Fumar and win this match against the former two-time University Park
Champion.

NWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS: THE DAMNED vs. JOHN BALSAMO & SHANE BLACK
The NWF Tag Team Champions "The Damned" Mad Dog and Draven will be
making their first defense at "Retribution" against two newcomers to
the NWF, John Balsamo and Shane Black. Draven and Mad Dog won the
belts in shocking fashion against former champions Rick Silver and
Joe Rules at "Pain State" just a little less than two weeks ago. The
special referee for that match was Don Juan Desanto, a man who seemed
to be on the side of Silver and Rules throughout the whole match. But
in the end it was Desanto who counted the three and gave "The Damned"
the win and the NWF Tag Team Titles. Balsamo and Black would have to
be considered the underdogs going into this match, simply because
they are new to the NWF. However if there is one thing we have seen
in the last year or so, the talent level of newcomers has been
nothing but exceptional, and Black and Balsamo will give "The Damned"
a stiff challenge.

The details of these matches and names of more wrestlers in action
at "Retribution" will be announced as April 7th draws closer, so
continue to check back with the NWF website and listen to Mayhem and
Over the Top Rope for the latest news!

Also don't forget that the NWF has scheduled its final event of the
semester and it will be called "VIP: Very Intense Punishment" to be
held on Friday, April 28th. Last year VIP was the biggest card of the
year for the NWF, and it figures to be just as important this year as
well. This figures to be a night where all of the bitter rivalries
and feuds of this year will come to a head. Already confirmed for VIP
is a match pitting NWF Champion Tommy Golden against the tournament
winner at VIP. Plus, Dave Desire will be making his first University
Park Title defense against #1 contender Little Dixie. More matches
are sure to be announced as VIP draws closer. You will not want to
miss all of the excitement, all the pageantry, all the glitz that is
VIP!

SHAWN MICHAELS' LAST MATCH
excerpt from: Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer

*Shawn Michaels "last match" took place in San Antonio against Venum
in a bunkhouse brawl. It was a basic weapons match using a cookie
pan, crutch, trash can, etc. Venum juiced. The only real bump
Michaels took was doing an elbow off the top. Michaels hip tossed
Venom off a 12-foot stage onto two stacked up tables. Venum threw
powder, used a kendo stick and handcuffed Michaels, who juiced.
Shooter Schultz ran in and suplexed Venom on the table, which forgot
to break. Michaels powerslammed Venom on the table which broke,
delivered the superkick and scored the pin. Fans gave Michaels a
standing ovation. He announced that Sandman would be appearing on the
next show.

Keepin' it Real
by Bryan Riegel

WM Anaylsis
April 3, 2000

The Game Reigns Supreme...and you never saw it coming!

WM 2000 was a mixture of everything good and bad about the WWF. The
bad: debacles like T&A vs Head Cheese and Bossmen vs Pimps. The good:
the tag-title match, the Eurocontinental match, and of course that
great main-event. It was a night that lacked that special WM feel,
until the Hardyz and Co. turned up the heat and busted their asses to
provide a great match. Pete Rose made another appearance, albeit in a
somewhat predictable fashion. What wasn't predictable, and I don't
care how many times you claim to have "called it", was HHH
maintaining the title. We, as a collective, were swerved, and I for
one loved it. I guess you could say I have always rooted for the "bad
guys", and last night was no exception. Even I thought that HHH would
somehow fall to The Rock, but "in that very ring" Vince McMahon
proved that Survivor Series 97 & 98 were no flukes, as yet another
superstar got "screwed". It will be interesting to see what
consequences these actions have, and since I am writing this a mere
hour and a half before RAW due to work constrictions, my comments may
be somewhat dated. My guess is that Vince will claim that family
comes first, and that no one, and The Vince means no one, is more
important than Daddy's little girl.

Enough speculation, here's my thoughts on the main-event. The Big
Show, despite being eliminated first, came away with a lot from this
match. He totally dominated all three men, and could only be put down
by a triple-team. He displayed more character and aggression than
ever, and his new "big nasty bastard" thing is actually kinda cool.
If you remember, Show was called The Big Nasty when he debuted over a
year ago. Perhaps this return to his nasty roots will cement the big
man as a bonafide superstar.

Mick Foley. A legend in his own time. A dream that was so strong that
he turned the wrath of the mandible claw on former partner The Rock.
A man that failed to achieve his dream, falling short of the title. I
didn't want to see him win the belt, but I didn't want to see him go
out with a whimper either. Not a good way to go out, looking like a
spiteful and bitter man. Let's hope the stipulation sticks this time,
and we have indeed seen the last of Mick Foley in the ring, at least
for his own sake.

The Rock, the man of the people, the layer of the smackdown, is
treated like a jabroni. Let's face it, The Rock could job to The Red
Rooster and still get over. This match did nothing to hurt his
credibility, and his post match attack on The McMahons only
solidifies his status as the darling of the crowd. It's amazing how
we have seen HHH and The Rock at least 200 times and they continue to
put on good matches that do not bore the fans to death. But as much
as they provide good matches, The Rock will not be "The Man" until he
cleanly defeats HHH for the gold. Let me explain. HHH has been a
better champion than The Rock. He draws more heel heat than The Rock
did when he was a heel champ. He has elevated The Big Show, which is
something Rocky had a hand in, but Hunter played a larger part, as
their sometimes partnership really made Show a solid heel character.
I love The Rock too, so don't bombard me with emails telling me "I'm
stupid". He will be the man, but for now HHH is indeed The Game.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley. The Game. The leader of DX. Whatever you want
to call him, he is the best heel in the business. He draws heat by
being what a heel should be: a no-nonsense ass kicker, with the brawn
to back up his brains. Kinda like Stone Cold when he won King of the
Ring, before the fans adapted to his style. He might have lost the
title by the time you read this, but he was the main-event of WM
2000, the showcase event of the year, and there could not be a more
deserving man. His work ethic is unbelievable, and his dedication to
the game has allowed him to surpass his fellow DX members in becoming
possibly the greatest heel WWF champion of all-time. If the year
ended now, is there anyone who would contest that he is the wrestler
of the year? Am I marking out? Maybe, but marking out for excellence
is nothing to be ashamed of. We could all stand to mark out a little
more often, don't you think?

Later.
