YUTZAK ARAFAT STARS IN "ONCE ON THIS ISLAND"
You've seen The Rock on SNL, you've seen Stone Cold on "Nash Bridges."
You've even seen Billy Gunn on "Sabrina The Teenage Witch." But tonight
at Schwab Auditorium in Penn State, you will get the chance to see
former NWF Champion "Too Phat" Yutzak Arafat as you've never seen him
before!
That's right, wrestling fans. Arafat is starring in a musical, and it
opens tonight. "Once on this Island" is a musical production by the
Penn State Thespians that will be presented at 8 p.m. today (Friday
night) and at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. tomorrow in Schwab Auditorium.
"Once on this Island" is a mythological story told by the island
villagers to calm a child while waiting for a storm to pass. The story
is of Ti Moune, a young peasant girl, whose life was preserved by the
gods. She in turn saves the life of a wealthy French boy named Daniel
and, during the time she is nursing him back to health, falls in love.
The gods guide Ti Moune on a journey to test the strength of her love.
Clearly this type of role will be a challenge for the former NWF
Champion, and will be a real departure from the last time we saw him in
the "Nittany Ladder Match" at "Pain State" just a week ago. It was also
at "Pain State" that we saw NWF Champion Tommy Golden threaten the cast
members of "Once on this Island" as they prepared to perform a musical
number. Thankfully Arafat was there to prevent any of the cast members
from being injured.
Could Golden perhaps show up and once again try to steal the spotlight
from Arafat on the opening night of the musical? Not likely. But just
because the steel chairs and the ladders of "Pain State" are left far
behind, doesn't mean that you will not get your money's worth for
attending this musical.
Once on this Island is based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy
and features music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. The
production has been nominated for eight Tony Awards and won the Olivier
Award for Best New Musical.
Ticket prices are $8 for the general public and $3.50 for Penn State
students with IDs. To purchase tickets, call the Arts Ticket Center at
863-0255.

NWF NEWS & NOTES
by Justin Cryder
We are just one week away from "NWF: Retribution!" But while you wait
for "Retribution" you can relive the excitement of "Pain State"
including the "Nittany Ladder Match" at the NWF Website
(http://top-rope.com/nwf) where exclusive pictures from the event are
now online!
Wrestling fans, you have only two more chances to see the NWF this
school year as the next NWF show will be held on Friday, April 7, and
will be called "Retribution." Start time is 8:30, and the event will
take place in the White Building on the Penn State campus. Already the
card has begun to shape as the NWF Tag Team Titles will be on the line
with new champions "The Damned" making their first title defense. Also
preliminary plans have begun to be made for a tournament to crown the
#1 contender for Tommy Golden's NWF Heavyweight Championship. Rumored
participants include "Too Phat" Yutzak Arafat, Derrick Destiny, Don
Juan Desanto, and a returning "Nittany Lion" Nick Mason!
Another match that has been brewing for "Retribution" is suprising to
say the least. In Wednesday's edition of the newsletter, we spoke about
the big rumor that there is heat between Fumar and Referee Tom and that
the two got into a confrontation after "Pain State" and had to be
separated from each other. It is believed that Fumar took exception to
Referee Tom trying to climb the ladder and retrieve the titles during
the "Nittany Ladder" tag match and had some not-so-kind words for the
NWF official. You may recall that there is a history between these two
men, as Fumar pasted Referee Tom with a brutal chair shot a few shows
back. Now Referee Tom is claiming that he wants a match against Fumar!
The NWF executive committee is apparently reviewing his request, and
their decision will be announced this Monday on NWF Monday Night
Mayhem! The show can be heard on Campus Cable Channel 21, and now also
LIVE in realaudio over the internet at http://www.top-rope.com/nwf and
http://1indigo.simplenet.com. Also slated for the show will be more
information about the card for "Retribution" plus a recap of
Wrestlemania and a preview of Monday Night Raw and Nitro!
Two men who will not be appearing at "Retribution" in seven days are
new University Park Champion "LiveWire" Dave Desire and NWF Champion
Tommy Golden. Both reportedly suffered injuries as a result of the
brutal ladder match, and they will be out of action at "Retribution."
However, they should be ready to go for "VIP" on April 28th.
And speaking of "VIP" the NWF has also scheduled its final event of the
semester and it will be called "VIP: Very Intense Punishment" to be
held on Friday, April 28th. Last year VIP was the biggest card of the
year for the NWF, and it figures to be just as important this year as
well. This figures to be a night where all of the bitter rivalries and
feuds of this year will come to a head. Already confirmed for VIP is a
match pitting NWF Champion Tommy Golden against the tournament winner
at VIP. Plus, Dave Desire will be making his first University Park
Title defense against #1 contender Little Dixie. More matches are sure
to be announced as VIP draws closer. You will not want to miss all of
the excitement, all the pageantry, all the glitz that is VIP!
For more information on "Retribution" and "VIP" or about the NWF in
general, visit the NWF website at http://top-rope.com/nwf or e-mail at

News from the Big 3: MARCH 31-APRIL 2, 2000
<<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>>
excerpt from Dave Meltzer and WrestlingObserver.com...
MCMAHON SUPPORTS NJ WRESTLING BAN
Vince McMahon has come out in favor of regulation of "extreme
wrestling" in New Jersey. The proposed legislation would ban anyone
under 18 from attending what they call extreme wrestling events, which
would not include WWF, WCW or ECW. It also gives local communities the
power to ban the events if they so choose. McMahon was quoted as
saying: "Extreme wrestling is a profoundly disturbing trend which has
no other objective but to cause serious injury to opponents in an
effort to annihilate them. We share the Governor's concern that young
people could be exposed to such a horrible spectacle as extreme
wrestling. Extreme wrestling has no relation whatsoever to the World
Wrestling Federations's entertainment programming and the bill
differentiates it as such. At the WWF, every effort is made by the
athletes -- who are trained professionals, unlike local amateurs of
extreme wrestling--not to cause harm to themselves or their opponent in
our ongoing weekly action adventure series."

WCWLIVE RUSSO HIGHLIGHTS
Vince Russo was interviewed on WCWlive on Tuesday, and he spoke about
his return to WCW. Included in his comments, he wants Konnan and
Douglas back. Because of Douglas' threatened lawsuit against the
company, there will have to be some legal things that need to be
cleaned up before he can be returned. If he does return, it seems to be
a good bet that he will try to reform the Triple Threat with Candido
and Bam Bam Bigelow.
Also in the chat, Russo claimed to have boosted ratings from a 2.5 to
3.5 when he was there. While some weeks were up and some were down, as
they are today, the overall trend was slightly downward. Ratings for
Nitro declined at a faster paced under Sullivan than under Russo, but
they were down for both. He said Monday's TV would have cut-ins
building to the 4/10 show. He also pushed the idea of the NWO being
brought back in a major role, that they should take shots at WWF on TV
and that people want to see a Warrior vs. Goldberg match.

KEEPIN' IT REAL
by B-Real
Too many chiefs, not enough Indians
RAW THOUGHTS
We all pretty much knew that the WWF would pull out all the stops the
week before WM 2000, and they obliged us, filling a good portion of the
show with McMahon family antics. While Vince and Co. usually manage to
entertain, for me it just did not seem to work as well as it should
have. Sure Linda McMahon should stay in the back for her safety, but
how is that going to further the angle with Stephanie? And do I really
need to see Vince "wrestle" again? Shane has potential but Vince should
not strap on the boots anytime soon, or ever again, for that matter. A
better solution would to have Rock&Mankind versus Show/HHH, with Shane
and Vince as referees. But what do I know? Seemingly the whole focus of
the show was on the McMahons, and little emphasis was placed on the
importance of the title. Mick Foley's mic time was given to Linda
McMahon, who in all honesty, cuts the worst promos this side of Hulk
Hogan, but more on him later. Foley is a legend, but he has obviously
gained a lot of weight, and hopefully the extra poundage will not
detract from his "farewell" match performance. Having The Rock easily
dispose of The Show would seem to indicate that Show has no chance in
hell of surviving the four-way match. To me, Rock versus HHH would be
the way to go, but with all the Foley hoopla, it would be hard to
imagine him not winning the strap, pinning either Rock or HHH. Time
will tell.
Who wasn't amused by the chase of Crash Holly? Cheesy yes, but
entertaining as all hell. It is funny to see Crash versus Tazz, as the
two are said to have legitimate heat from incidents in ECW. Tazz should
grab the gold this Sunday, and bring back the ass-kicking aspect of the
Hardcore division in the process.
Mark my words, Hardyz/Dudleyz/Edge&Christian will steal the show. Not
really going out on a limb there am I? Looks like Edge&Christian are in
for that rumored push, but The Dudleyz have been strong champions,
making the other teams better in the process. Everybody said that they
couldn't get over without cursing out the crowd, but through hard work
and the prolific use of tables, The Dudleyz are stars. They finally let
E&C talk, which may have been both good and bad. The good part is that
we get to see more of their personalities. The bad part is their
personalities. For someone with the name Edge, this guy has no Edge to
him at all. Just another pretty boy. At least Christian sounded pissed
off and kinda mean, Edge just sounded like a whiner. Oh well, he's
young and somewhat over anyway, so he has the time to improve.
T&A. Bossman and Bull. Can't that be a Heat match instead of on the
PPV? Give Taka and Funaki something for God's sake. If they want to get
this Bull guy over, they already made the wrong move of putting him
with Ray Traylor. Is there anybody that is less over? He could have
started as a bodyguard for Tori or one of the other chicks first. That
would have been better than this crap.
NITRO NOTICES
The only push the Wall should be getting is a push off the top of that
hotel. And you thought Dr. Death no-sold everything. Can't complain
about no-selling for Hogan though, as his ancient offense leaves
everything to be desired. Just for a minute, weren't you wishing that
somehow, someway, The Wall would find a way to chokeslam Hogan off the
building? Admit it, you know you did. And I'll tell you why.
Hulk Hogan has got to go. It's been said a million times, but it has
never been more true. The promos that he was allowed to give last night
made my blood curl. I was physically ill watching this once upon a time
icon tarnish his memory, and the industry of wrestling as well. He said
"brother" more times than a Nation of Islam meeting. "Dude" was also
prevalent, sparking memories of surfer movies and Atari. Nostalgia is
cool, but only when it does not try to pass itself off as still cool.
Nowhere on Earth can there be a person who thinks Hogan is cool.
Nowhere. Do you hear that Russo and Bischoff? Job him to oblivion and
save us from the danger that is Hulkamania. And send Schivaone with him.
Booker T will be the man if given the chance. Are you still listening
Eric and Vince? He cut the best promos of his career, and we all know
that he has the ring skills to wow the crowd. Split him from Kidman,
feud them, and have another best of seven series. That best of seven
with Benoit is really what got both men over, as all of the matches
were filled with nearfalls and various types of wrestling goodness. In
the words of Marv Albert, "let's see that again!"
ECW EXCITEMENT
This week's show was kind blah, as the feature matchup of Grimes and
Dreamer(two of my least favorite workers) was not good or bad, it was
just there. I'd like to get to see Steve Corino wrestle more, as I have
seen first hand the skills that he possesses. He is great as a manager,
but let the man kick it "old- school" way. The 0.8 rating indicates
that I was not the only one disappointed, hopefully they can crank it
up as April approaches.
That's it for now. See you soon!
