All,
This Thursday, I'm going to run a a campus obstacle course -
basically, we run somewhat randomly around campus, through buildings,
up/down stairs, etc. Each person who wants gets a turn leading; Kim
said she wanted to run up to the tenth floor of her building, but I
think (hope!) she's kidding.
This is not for the 1/2 marathoners, but if you are doing a tempo run,
you can certainly join us and continue on after we're through. That's
up to Jerry. I believe that you are meeting at the same place and
time. If you have questions about this, email Jerry and/or me.
As for that place/time, we'll meet at Rec Hall, the Burrows entrance
near Curtin, at 6:00 PM. If the weather is inclement, we'll meet just
inside the _upper_ entrance doors. It looks like it will be cool (low
40's), but otherwise nice.
The more people, the more fun these obstacle runs are, so come if you can.
Thanks,
Josh
Josh,
It looks like I won't make it tonight after all...
See you maybe thurs and definitely sat.

All,
Here's the run I'm planning - just a loop around campus, 2.7 miles:
http://www.mapmyrun.com/view_route.php?r=8e683b5ed66cd0f00817a9488cd2e54d
I agree, we should get the groups together (repair the schism!) as
soon as possible. Right now, though, the 1/2 marathoners are going far
and fast. The 1/2 is Dec. 3, so after that, we can meet again.
Also, yes, we'll meet at 6:00PM on Thursday at Rec Hall. If it's
decent, we'll run outdoors; otherwise, we'll run on the track. My goal
for all of these runs is about 3 miles. Saturday runs are longer.
If people are interested, we can do an obstacle course on campus
Thursday - basically, each person leads for about 5 minutes, leading
us into and out of buildings, up/down stair, etc. I do these to break
up the monotony; they're fun!
Hopefully see some of you tonight at Rec Hall at 6!

I'm there!
Yesterday, for the first time in a long, long time (I couldn't even
remember my staff locker combination...ok, not only that--I couldn't
remember my *locker* number...), I actually took off for a 3 mile run
around campus after 5 meetings--it was SUPER!
I also want to say I love this running group and would like to see it
converge again, as Dave suggested, if possible.
Cheers,
Lisa

That sounds like fun!! Unfortunately I have to get my kids ready for Halloween. So what's up Thursday? Are we going to move to 6pm, too? or are we already there? I'm so confused because I was out of the loop. Are we doing a track workout?? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE???
Somehow after 2 weeks of NOT running, I went out and ran a 4.4 at 8:33pace. Why couldn't I have done that at the Mountainback?? I don't understand my body, obviously!!! I didn't have a mile uphill, but still... who knows.
Anyhow looking forward to seeing everyone Thursday!!

If anyone is interested in a track workout tomorrow, I want to get one in early enough to get home for the trick-or-treaters (6-8pm I think). I'll be following the 1/2 marathon training schedule - three 1600's. I'll be at the track in rec hall at 4:30.

Sounds like a great idea! I like the Starbucks combined with the grilled sticky sounds wonderful to me!! Oh, well ahhh, we will be running off some of that grilled sticky with vanilla ice cream when we run, right? Hee, hee, hee, I guess I have a "litttttlllleee" sweet tooth. When your bad, your bad!! I'll try to do better!! Next year! heee, heee.
Anyway, keep working hard everyone!!
You're doing great.... don't let this cooler weather get you down.... let that up to the gooodies. I mean..... well, I wanted to say thanks to everyone in the group for being part of the running group. It's fun to make new friends and have more people to enjoy running with!! Take care!!
God bless,
Christine

And since the regular Sat. group also meets there, we could get to know (and maybe run a bit with) some of them.
Thanks, Josh. I will try to make it. I'm resting today.

My chip time was actually 56:58, to be exact. Was a little off there. Yes, it was a very exciting race. It's a different experience being cheered on by thousands of people and having marines hand you drinks and medals at the end (we all got a medal for finishing). We would have taken pictures, but didn't want to carry the camera, and we had to leave right after we were done.
Thanks to all of you who wished us the best. I'd recommend it for any first-time marathoner or 10K-er. Maybe someday...just maybe....I'll try for the marathon.

For those of you interested, Christine and I finished the Marine Corps 10K!! We had a chip time and a clock time, which were approximately 3 minutes apart. My chip time was 56:40-something. So, I finished in under an hour! Not quite my goal of 50 minutes, but will shoot for that next time maybe. Nice, beginner-friendly course with only one big hill at the end, and we had gorgeous weather, thank goodness. All fitness levels ran it (some even walked part of the way). Over 34,000 runners, in the marathon and 10K combined. Very neat experience!

Well, it was a little cold, a little wet, but Mary and Heather turned
out anyway to run with me - thanks! We did about 5-5&1/2 miles, and
managed a window with no rain!

I think his email said the marathon group was meeting at Rec Hall, but
the others were meeting at Welsh pool...
Rec Hall is normally an outside run (except for track workouts). Yes,
it's across the street from the Nittany Lion (and across Atherton from
the golf course). The meeting place is behind the bleachers (down the
stairs to the left as you come in the front door).

All,
Just a reminder, we're going to be doing the following run:
http://www.mapmyrun.com/view_route.php?r=3e8051f6754e155b859d0a98d5760c1d
Again, you can cut the run short by:
a) not running up/down Corl
b) going down Corl and back to the starting point
We'll run nice and easy - 10+ minute miles.
It's going to be cool and wet, so wrap up!
See you tomorrow,

For those doing the long run tomorrow, I'll be at the IM building,
I'll bring a map of the course so we can figure out how much of it we
can run to get in our 105 minutes. I've never been there, but the
meeting point seems to be the IM volley ball court...

Sorry about that! When I said a 1:45 run, I meant we're doing a 1
hour and 45 minute run (105 minutes), but it's at the normal 8:30am.
Here's my understanding of the current schedule:
wahoo 1/2 marathon
----- ------------
Tues: done for the winter 6:30pm at Rec Hall
Thurs: 6:30pm at Rec Hall
Sat: 8:30am @Welsh pool 8:30am @IM building???
Anyone is welcome to join us at Rec Hall on Tues and Thurs. If you
want to know what we'll be doing, the calendar is here:

(We're not meeting halloween night.)

I also have one more request if you do not want to get these e-mails please let me know and I will take you off the list. we will be going back outside next year in April so keep checking the (nvrun.com) web sight for more info. on our running group. The group will also be running on Thursdays and meeting at Rec. Hall at 6:30 pm. we are still running on Saturday morning from Welch Pool at 8:30 am.
It looks like we have a 1:45 run tomorrow, but where are we meeting?
There's been some discussion of it and I'm not sure what was settled
on. Are we still doing the 1/2 course? Not to confuse the issue
more, but we could meet at the IM building with the main club group
since they're running the 1/2 course also.

Just a reminder, I'll be leading a modified version of the "Tour de
Half" tomorrow. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the volleyball court in the IM
Building. (I'll be the one you sorta, kinda, vaguely recognize from
local races and such.) We'll be running by the deer pens and the Air
National Guard before we rejoin the half course for the big downhill
on Rock Road. Since I am not familiar with those trails at all, I'll
be counting on some of you veterans to lead the way.
See you tomorrow.
