Whether you’re a distance or short-distance runner, walker, hiker, adventure seeker, man or woman, you’re likely to find tonight’s free film at Appalachian Outdoors interesting and engaging. Dancing the Bear follows two women’s 100-mile journey through Idaho’s Bear River Range during the Bear 100 Mile Endurance Run.  I recommend it.

Showtime is 7 p.m., and the runtime is under an hour. There are refreshments courtesy of AO, or you can bring your own. This is part of AO’s Free University program on Thursday evenings. The film was provided by NVRC/The mOUnTaiNBACK. AO will be presenting other trail running films in the future as part of FREE U.

George trains on Leg 1. He has his wife drop him off at the bottom, drive up and wait for him at the top, and drive him down to run it again! What a guy!

Morning All,

Did anyone see in today's paper about George Etzweiler running the Mount Washington Road Race!  He is 89 years old and said that he trained on one of the Tussey Mountainback legs.  I wander if it was leg #10.   George is such a great inspiration and fun to be around with.  I believe one of his mountainback team buddies Truman Hersherger who is 81 yrs. old ran the race also.

probably 6-7 total.

Michelle,
That would be great...if you put some at the top of the hill, and I put some at Pine Swamp Rd (3.5 miles from Whipple) we'll have water every 3-4 miles.  That way neither of us has to drive a lot of the gravel road...
Thanks!

The game plan is to meet at the Tussey parking lot (across from the go cars) at 9:30 am to run the 11 miler out to Whipple's Dam.  If there are a few of you planning on running with us, you'll need to make sure that you have a car at Whipple's so that someone can bring you back to your cars at Tussey.

We will have a water stop at the top of Leg # 1 and I'm not sure but maybe a second one before we finish at Whipple's.  There was also talks of going to Doan's Bones afterwards.

Hope to see you there RAIN or SHINE!

Runners,

The Draft Challenge Relay (DCR), a "race within a race" at the Tussey
mOUnTaiNBACK 50 Mile Relay, has been a great and growing success
since John Sheakoski started it in 2006. The DCR is open to any
runner, regardless of pace, who is capable of running (not walking)
his or her assigned Legs. Team size has not yet been announced for
this year, but runners are already signing up. I've put John's
recently emailed information about the DCR on the NVRC web site. If
you want to know more about the DCR, go to:

http://nvrun.com/index.php/racing/club-sponsored/tussey-mountainback/dcr

It's also in the user menu under Racing/Club Sponsored Races/Tussey
mOUnTaiNBACK 50M.

I plan to supplement the information with some DCR competition history.

Should I come to this weekend's run? How fast is the Rec Hall crowd?
How fast do the Beginners run? Can I keep up with you? I've attempted

what I wrote represent your group? I'll be glad to change it. Here's the link:

Would anyone be up for a 4-5 mile easy pace ~10-10:30/mile around 5:30 or 6 this
evening? If it's storming I won't be running but if it's just raining I
probably will go anyways.

Runners:

Marty Mazur will lead a run in State Game Lands 176 for both
beginners and veterans to the Game Lands. Meet him at 11:15 AM at the
Patton Woods parking lot on Circleville Rd. Marty plans to run 7-10
miles in two loops, and it depends who shows up how he divides it.
The first loop will be for Game Lands Beginners. He'll be going slow,
and the length will be as long as the beginners want to go. (The last
time we did this, we went about 3 miles or so.) Part two will be a
different loop at a little faster pace to bring the total mileage up
to 7 to 10. Near the end of the runs, we'll see a couple of lone
mountain laurels, strangely separated from their thousands of
blooming buddies in the hills. If you're new to Game Lands running,
directions to the Patton Woods parking lot are here:

Wahooers,

The NVRC currently has one of the busiest non-staff blogs at the CDT blogsite, thanks to everyone’s visits. My latest post includes a sneak peek at my secret training regimen for the recent TKTYM… Other recent posts on The Runaround cover the inaugural Rothrock Trail Challenge and Warren Renninger’s adventure on the Pacific Crest Trail: http://tinyurl.com/dem2y2.
