Hey guys and gals! It's that time again to get a team together for the Tussey Mountainback, my fav race of the year!!

I would like to get 6-8 runners for a team. for more info on the race, go to http://www.tusseymountainback.com

There are a total of 12 legs on the team, which means on an 8-person team, 4 run two legs and 4 run one leg. On the 6 man, everyone runs 2.

I will work on setting up the option chart again on the nvrc group page and let you know when you can add yourself.  Please let me know ASAP so we can put this together and get registered ASAP, since they now have a cap on the amount of teams allowed to register.

Date for the race is October 11, 2008 and the beneficiary is Centre Volunteers in Medicine.

Thanks!
vicki

Hi Everyone!

There is a fun run planned for this evening :)  We will be meeting at Rec Hall around 5:30 p.m. to do at least a 3 mile loop around town.  Now the fun part is be that we will be making two special stops along the way.

First we will run to either the Creamery or Cold Stone Ice Cream and then we will loop down around to Rita's before heading back to Rec Hall.

Hope to see you there and don't forget to bring money.

Denise

Runners,

The regular bimonthly meeting of the Nittany Valley Running Club will
be held Tuesday, August 5, at 6:30 PM. This year we'll again be
combining our August meeting with the NVRC Annual Picnic. And this
year, again, the Rice Family will be putting on the picnic at
Governor's Park in Bellefonte. You can find the park and the best way
for you to get there by checking out the map:
http://maps. google.com/ maps?sitesearch= &hl=en&q= governor% 27s%20park% 20bellefonte% 20pa&um=1& ie=UTF-8& sa=N&tab= wl

The Rice's will snag a pavilion, the same one we had last year if
possible. They'll also be grilling hot dogs and kielbasa. What to
bring? You can bring a dessert or dish to share. Or a specialty
food, like a vegetarian dish. Also, the Rice's could use some help
with the drinks. Contact Christine if you can bring some sodas or the
like, or if you'd like to help. Her email is
marie_marie1972@ yahoo.com. Come to the meeting!

Marty.

Jerry,
Dave Eggler has drinks/juices to donate for the picnic.  I will pick them up from his house possibly on Friday.  Could you get the forks and napkins and the plates that are in the club storage closet out to use at the picnic?  That would be a great help.  There is also some small bowls in there if anyone brings fruits or desserts that require small bowls.  thanks!

Hi Everyone,

We are having a Bellefonte Run this evening and you all are invited!!  The meeting place will be the Bellefonte Middle School at 6:00 p.m., but if the parking lot is full we can meet at the Weis Market lot , the end closet to Burger King so we can find each other.

The plan it to run 8 miles or less.  You will be able to have the option to cut the miles shorter.

Hope to see you there!

Trackers,

We had our first false taste of Fall weather as Jim Myers, Tom Cali,
Marty Klanchar, Jim Moore, Mark Fedkin, Ruth Mick, Lance Bland, Nick
Downs, John Sheakoski, Tom Hilands, Emily Osgood, Dana Todd, Kirk
Rager, Ed and Sam Thompson, Michael Goldfine, Joel Niemann, Tara
Murray, Matt Soccio, Julia Hess, Chris Applegate, Lee Culver, and
Marty Mazur headed for the track. It was mild,
cloudy, and breezy, with temperatures barely in the 70s.

Bwana, being just back from the beach, wanted to share his "vacation
recovery pain", and since we had a couple of new people (Chris and
Julia), he proposed the famous "newbie buster" or "Fortitude"
workout. We did 4X(400-200) with the 200 at a faster pace than the
400. It worked its magic, and everyone went back to nap at their desks.

Several people slept at their desks through lunch. DIck Meyer had
slept on his desk calendar and drooled all over the page that said
today is Thursday. Frank Zaffino was taking a nap after finishing his
4:30 AM run. Meghan Mason was asleep on her feet after spending last
night waiting tables. Martha Nelson was catching some Zs on top of a
pile of DC apartment listings. Costas Maranas was sawing lumber at a
lunchtime seminar. And John Pringle sleep-walked through a
racquetball game with Bruce Einfalt.

Keep Running!

Marty

Hi All,

Pam Scott thought that it would be fun to do  a Watermelon Run!  Plan to meet at the Tussey Resort Parking lot (across from the go carts) at 5:30 p.m. to carpool up Bear Meadows to the monument on Wednesday for a "Great Adventure!".

The run will be a max of 7 miles or you can take the option of cutting it shorter if you want.  Everyone is encouraged to come run it at your own pace that is comfortable for you.  We invite all to come run and have fun then eat some watermelon!

Hope to see you the! re!

Denise

P.S.  Pam will be bringing the watermelon.
         Thanks Pam!!!

Runners,

The August meeting of the NVRC is coming quickly. It'll be on August
5. The last few years, we've been making this meeting an outdoor
picnic somewhere. If we're going to do this again this year, we need
an organizer. Easy job. Just reserve us a pavilion somewhere (Tudek,
Sunset, etc), and rassle up some 'za and drinks. Dave Eggler will pay
you back. Let me know if you can do this and I'll post the location.
Otherwise, it'll be at Hi-Way on Westerly.

Marty.

Yes, but we only did 6x400's because we had to cut it short due to some kind of track meet that was going on tonight.  Even though there was a little breeze it was still pretty toasty out there.

Hi All. Vicki, Bonnie, Michelle, Cheryl, Kim, Joel, and I did the
Sloppy Socks 5K in Holidaysburg yesterday. It was a pretty
interesting three-loop course that ran across fields, on trails,
through a mud pit, in a creek bed, and up and down muddy embankments.
Personally, I had a lot of fun and it was good to finally meet some
of you.

Our "official photographer" took four pictures that day, which I have
uploaded to my Flickr account:

The "before" picture:

The "after" picture (front):

And the state of our sloppy socks:

I also wrote a more complete race report on my web site:

Hi All,

A few of us are planning a run at 7:00 A.M. from Tussey to Whipples Dam (11 miles) on Sunday morning.  There will be two water stops along the course.

Hope you can come :)
Denise

The H.S track is open to the Public. The school's custodian, open it in the morning and locks it up at night. Jerry
