Hi Vicki -

I did not know if you new about the Eugene08 web site; schedules,
start lists, photos, etc... If not this may be very useful:
http://www.eugene08.com/

Here is the Oregonian Live T&F site with a lot of information, blogs, etc:
http://www.oregonlive.com/trackandfield/

And yet another, The Register-Guard from Eugene:
http://www.registerguard.com/csp/cms/sites/OT/Home/index.csp

Hope this is of some help, especially if you are a trials fanatic!

Made in the shade photos can be found here. Marty Mazur took the pics (other than the first two, notice he tries for a pre-race advantage in one of them), but apparently didn't know how to zoom in with my camera! I cropped the photos to make the person larger in them, so if anyone wants a higher res copy of the photo of themselves, (or someone they admire(?)) let me know. Some of them were nice pics (not including the one of me which was taken right after I knocked knees..haha).

thanks for the pics Marty, and thanks for the race, Mike!

Dave,

I'm interested.  How many miles were you planning on running?  What snack do we want to bring?

Hopefully it won't rain......

The park authority and CRBC, a local bike group, are having a series of bike-in movies this summer.  The 2nd is this Friday at Spring Creek Park.  The movie is "The Goonies":
http://www.centrebi ke.org/
http://crpr. centreconnect. org/sp-events/ specials. html

Anyone interested in making it a run-in movie?  I don't want to carry a blanket to sit on while running, so I was thinking of doing an out and back from the Park along the bike trail about 8:00 pm.  (The movie didn't start until well after 9pm last time - sunset isn't until 8:46, and twilight at 9:20)

Anyone interested?

Dave

CRBC is teaming up with the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Department
this summer for monthly bike-in movies in the parks. Our first feature will be
ET screening at 8:30 Friday, May 30. Bring snacks, something to sit on and lights
for the ride home. In case of rain, the showing will be Saturday, May 31.
Here's the full season list:
Friday, 30 May 08 @ Tom Tudek Memorial Park, 8:30 PM - "ET" (rain date: Sat., 31 May)
Friday, 27 Jun 08 @ Spring Creek Park, 8:30 PM - "The Goonies" (rain date: Sat., 28 Jun)
Friday, 18 Jul 08 @ Sunset Park, 8:30 PM - "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" (rain date: Sat., 19 Jul)

I think that's a really cool idea, and I would love to do a run-in movie! Unfortunately, I'm in a wedding on Saturday and the rehearsal dinner is tomorrow night, and I'll be in Florida for the July showing. I wish they did this more often throughout the summer...it's a really cool idea!

If they add any additional movie dates this summer, I'm in :)

A few of us will run from rec hall at 5:30 this evening.  The route is undecided, but we will probably run 4-5 miles.  Thursday evenings are usually our slowest evening since we are all ready for our rest day on Friday.

We will meet at the stairwell on the side of rec hall facing Burrowes.  Come if you can.

Hope to see you there.

Runners,
Rebecca Donaghue is the girl's running coach at State High, and one blazingly fast young woman herself. She's heading off to the Olympic Trials and her boyfriend Artie Gilkes is planning a *surprise* send-off for her at her last workout. That will be at the PSU outdoor track on Wednesday evening at 6 PM. You're invited to attend and watch her blur by! There's a bit more information below.
Remember, it's a surprise!
Marty.

Marty,
Good afternoon. Artie asked me to pass this along to you so you could let the Nittany Valley Running Club know about the send-off on 6pm, Wednesday at the Penn State Outdoor Track. He wants to keep it a surprise. I have cc'ed him on this message so you can contact him if you need any more details.
Kisenwether and Koubek feel free to stop by as well and invite your families.
Rutter not sure if you can make it with the Nittany Track and Field practice, but it would be great to have you there.
Thanks,
Jayson

SCXC Parents,

My name is Artie Gilkes and i'm Coach Donaghue's coach and significant other.  Not sure which is of more relevance.  I'm writing from Coach D's e-mail account so as to get your addresses.  Below, is an invitation meant for both you and you running daughters.  Coach D has qualified for the 2008 US Olympic trials in Eugene Oregon.  Wed. will be her last workout.  I am putting together a surprise sendoff for Coach D at her final workout before the trials.  Come and see a look at the training coach D undertakes.

Please DO NOT respond to this e-mail as this is meant to be a surprise sendoff.  Contact me @ pghkidd@... with any questions.

Ladies,

this is actually Artie writing from Coach D's account.  I'm just sending out an e-mail to let you all know that Coach D's last workout before she heads out to the trials is going to be on wed. evening.  I was hoping to get a surprise send off put together for her workout.  You guys have served as a great inspiration to Coach D.  And she would be really really inspired and surprised if you all came to send her off.  Depending on how many people can make it I will be ordering some food.  It will also be a great opportunity to yell at Coach D while she runs her workout!

I will send this same message to your parents.  Please tell them they are invited to come see just what Coach D does herself in her daily practices.

Please DO NOT respond to this e-mail as I want to keep this a surprise.

E-mail me @ pghkidd@... with any questions and just to let me know if you think you can make it so I can order up some pizzas or something and just to get an idea of who all will be there.

Coach D's practice will be at 6pm at the PSU Outdoor Track.  Please come and send Coach D off to Eugene for the Olympic Trials!

Artie

Yes, I do remember that there is some downhill on that leg.  Once you get up the hill then it is flat or downhill all the way to bear meadows.  I always think of leg 10 as the hardest one because it is the only leg that I have not at some point been able to make it through without walking.  I always end up walking up about 50% of that hill.

Alright, despite its ominous reputation, even Leg 10 has some flat and downhill sections. I’ll bet Kim remembers that, right Kim? You know, right about when you’re saying “Wow, that was a tough hill!” if you look around you might find you’re heading down the other side.

I have always thought that Leg 10 was overrated in terms of its difficulty.  There is one hard section, less than 3/4 mile in length. It's very difficult, but after that you get to coast down hill for 3/4 mile to the end! I think the reason it's got its reputation is that for most Tussey combos involving that let, it is the *last* leg and the runner is exhausted. Particularly for a 3, 4 or 6 person team, where Leg 10 follows a hard leg, or two.

Hi Everyone!

It was a all girl group this morning with  Pam Scott, Kim Daniels and Denise Weaver who ran Leg #1 of the Tussey Mountainback course.  We had a great early morning run in Tussey, the weather was just perfect..... ..not too hot and not to cold.  We saw quite a few of those orange salamanders, but no BEARS []   YEAH!!!!!!  (Didn't want a repeat of last Sunday.)

Pam and Kim did a super job running up  Laurel...... .I myself decided to do some Gallo running going up, but Pam and Kim was still within sight range. Kim is doing a great job running hills.  Keep up the good work Kim!  All three of us ran back down Laurel together and had a great cherry dessert snack that Pam made.

Thank you Pam!

Alright, despite its ominous reputation, even Leg 10 has some flat and downhill sections. I’ll bet Kim remembers that, right Kim? You know, right about when you’re saying “Wow, that was a tough hill!” if you look around you might find you’re heading down the other side.

We saw quite a few of those orange salamanders, but no
BEARS  YEAH!!!!!!

I'm really not sure...i think eveyrone usually parks closer to the stadium...

Jerry?

And Dave, apparently Jerry wanted to not start at the creamery, possibly cuz of parking or possibly cuz of construction? I don't know, I don't go on campus. I actually work.  ;o)

Runners,

The NVRC is offering performance men's and women's microfiber wicking
T-shirts BY PRE-ORDER. I'll probably order a few extra, but don't
count on getting one in your size or color unless you PRE-ORDER. The
shirts are similar to last year's very popular mOUnTaiNBACK shirts,
but from a different manufacturer. The manufacturer is Zorrel. To see
the shirts, and get information about colors, sizes, etc, visit:

http://nvrun. com/performance- shirts.html

The shirts will have a 4-color breast patch of the NVRC logo. The
cost will be $15 for NVRC members, $20 for non-members. No need to
send money until I get the shirts in, probably in mid-July. If you'd
like one or more, please send me an email specifying, for each shirt
ordered, the following:

Model - Boston (unisex) or Sedona (women's)
Color (Please use color guide for each shirt on the web page above.
Note: The Boston and Sedona shirts do not have the same color
availability! )
Size (sizes available are on the web page)

Please respond by JUNE 30!

Marty.

A few of us are meeting at rec hall at 5:30 this evening to run.  We will run indoors if it is raining, otherwise we will run about 5 miles outside.

Meet in the usual spot at the stairwell on the side of the building facing Burrowes.

Hope to see you there.

Wahoos and BRR's,

A few of us will be meeting at 5:30 this evening to take another crack at the crack o' dawn course.  We will meet at the military museum parking lot in Boalsburg and take a warm-up jog to the start.  We will probably add a little extra on after we run the course to get about 4-5 miles in.  If it is raining we will meet at rec hall instead and run indoors.

Hope to see you there.

Kim

Runners,

Prompted by a couple of questions sent to me regarding the
Performance Running Shirts, here are a couple more bits of information:

(1) The NVRC log is attached. The logo will be a 4-color (white,
blue, green yellow) left chest patch on whatever color shirt you order.

(2) No need to send money now. I'll let you know when they're in and
we'll do as usual: either meet me at Rec Hall, campus mail, stop by
my house, or US mail ($2.50 postage).

(3) I still have a few assorted singlets. Inquire about sizes. They
are $26 for members, $31 for non-members.
