Wahoo Group:
This Thursday Evening I'll be leading a Special Thursday Evening Edition of
the Tuesday Beginners Running Group. We'll meet at Rec Hall and leave at
6:30 on a tour of the Arts Fest 5K course. I'll be pointing out the mile
marks and the location of the water stop. I plan to go slowly, and between
Jerry and me we'll make sure there are no stragglers.
The 5K course finishes on the west side of the IST Building, just a short
jaunt from the start. The parking lot between the IST and White Course
Drive is a good place to park your car.
Marty.

If anyone else gets any photos of any of our runners, please share!! When I develop my next role, I'll have pictures of some of our group running the Longest Day 5k.
Enjoy!

My favorite thing about tonight was Jayson telling us something like, "Those
guys training
in warm, sunny places come in 2nd." Awesome. Hope to see people THURSDAY night
at
6:30 at Rec Hall to preview the 5k course for Arts Fest! Jerry said Marty said
it will be
slow-ish - 10 min mile pace or so. Seems tonight is my night to quote everyone.
Cheers,
Katherine
I was able to see the group working out tonight. They
were impressive. Pounding out quarters in the rain.
Keep up the hard work it will pay off. Great job
Jerry. Keep them rolling.
One,
Jayson
That which we persist in doing becomes easier - not
that the nature of the task has changed, but our
ability to do has increased.

we would like to see all the Tuesday night runners at the 4th Fest run
on the 4th of July morning to run or to cheer for the ones who are
running the race. Jerry
I just wanted to let you guys know that I have not abandoned the
group. My calf was getting worse with every workout, so I decided it
was in my best interest to stop and let it heal. I've been doing
Astanga Yoga at home to help stretch the muscles and to keep a certain
level of fitness (it does make you sweat). I'm going to start running
this week (slowly) as long as I have no major pain. Anyone have any
suggestions on some really good calf stretches I can do before and
after running? If all goes well this week, I will be back with the
group next week. Thanks guys!
Kevin
all the ladies who ran the race from the Tuesday night running club
did well also Vicki Summers, Pamels Scott, and Katherine Stamps
medaled, but alas none of the boys did. we had a great time and it was
fun to see so many of your runners there. jerry
You Guys ran well today we had 7 or 8 of the Tuesday running club
there and I know that at least three placed Vicki, Pam, Kathy all got
madels. The rest of us got door prizes David,Steven,me,got left
behind. You all did great keep it up and you will be Pros. Jerry
Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the
nvrcwahoo group:
I'm interested in starting a regular weekday morning run and was wondering if
anyone else would be interested. I had in mind meeting somewhere like Starbucks
downtown, go for a short easy run (probably a golf course or campus loop), and
then get a caffeine fix before heading off to work (or whatever).
What day(s) and time(s) most interest you for a weekday morning run?
o Monday
o Tuesday
o Wednesday
o Thursday
o Friday
o 6 am

Wahoo folks,
I'll probably go to Centre Hall to either walk the course as a bandit
or just encourage everyone.
Cheers,
Steve (Bobby Boucher) Strickler
P.S. It's just too easy to laugh at myself. Somebody had better get
the joke.

To those who asked me, there has been a change of plans. I'll be running/jogging the 5k race at 9am...my kids are still entering the 400m and 800m, but since my husband is coming, I'll be able to run my 5k.
soooooooo, Jerry, my question to you is, what time are you showing up to warm up? I was figuring come by 8:10, sign up and then go for a warmup? Or should we be earlier? it worked out good for the mile race, but the race started at 9:15am and I don't remember what time we started our warmup...
I don't plan on being as nervous this time, since I'm not a lover of anything over a mile. I just hope to finish it within 30 minutes if possible!! I dont' think I ran a workout that was more than 3 miles yet!! this should be a trip!!

Just to let you all know, about a week ago, I changed the behavior of the replies on messages posted to the group. In the beginning, all replies went back to the group. I changed it to make replies only go to the sender of the original message. Therefore, if you plan to reply to the group, make sure you add the nvrcwahoo@yahoogroups.com to the To: field.
Jerry, when you reply to my message about Saturday's race, can you add the groups email, so others going can show up at the same time and warmup with us??
Thanks!

Folks,
What an awesome night. The sky was clear and the temperature was just
right. If you didn't notice, last nights attendance was the most we
have seen so far.
One interesting note worth sharing was that Scott Smith who is a NVRC
member and "Rec Hall Regular" attended the meeting last night. Scott
just came to check out the beginner run because Homestead Park was on
his workout circut but he stayed to run with us because the beginner
group was so much fun. ;)
Way to be,
Steve
You guys did such geart work last night I know how it feels to work
that hard you feel like you could do anything. I was so impressed with
you all I can not wait till next week to see you grow stronger. You
are growing stronger each week. I know that what ever goals you have
set you will meat them and excede all of them. Keep running Jerry
Runners,
This year's Arts Festival 5K and 10K courses will be essentially the same
as last year's. The only change will be some slight adjustments to make the
finish line area a little easier on the 10K runners. The course map can be
found at the Arts Fest Race web page: http://nvrun.com/af.html. As in the
past, I plan to conduct a few course tours for the curious. A few of the
Rec Hall Regulars ran it last week impromptu. Starting today I'll lead a
group at lunch time every Tuesday until Arts Fest. The tour will include
hyper-precise locations of the mile marks. I'll be glad to hold the pace
down to give a slower tour, particularly on the 5K course, which is the
first half of the 10K race.
I'd also be willing to do a tour on another day so that Jerry's beginner's
group can come along without having to worry about doing two workouts in a
day. All you on Jerry's Wahoo group, let me know...
Marty.

The regular meeting of the Nittany Valley Running Club was
held on Tuesday, June 6 at the Hi-Way Pizza on Westerly Parkway. We had a
big crowd again, with the promise of more coming, as President Jerry
Steffy said he would be late with some of the Tuesday Beginners Running
Group in tow. Present at the start were Morgan Windram, Alistair
Geddes, Bob Boozer, Mike Casper, Tara Murray, Amy Paster, Boyd Brumbaugh,
Dave Eggler, Marty Klanchar, Mike Connelly, and Marty Mazur. After the
pizza and refreshments were ordered, the Club dove into some running
talk.
The meeting was a bit more loosely run than many recent meetings have
been. Amy gave a report on the progress of the Arts Fest Race, which is
going well. She'll be needing to round up race day help soon. Marty Mazur
has made a few minor adjustments to last year's course and will be
seeking a volunteer who will be there on race day to make sure the course
is well marked and staffed. Morgan Windram and here fiancee Alistair were
there to say good-bye. They're getting hitched soon and will be living
abroad. Mike Casper and Bob Boozer dropped a reminder about their
upcoming races, the Crack 'O Dawn 5K and the Speed-To-Read 5K. Marty
Klanchar suggested that our next meeting double as a Club Picnic. We'd
have it at a local park and order some pizza. We'll announce details
later.
When the Beginner's Group showed up, introductions were made around.
Jerry's group is doing well, with 12-15 runners showing up every Tuesday
evening for a brisk workout. We'll be seeing this crew at local 5Ks
soon!
Aside from the small amount of business we did, we mostly engaged in
runner talk. Boyd Brumbaugh filled us in about his recent 2nd place
finish at the God's Country Marathon. Good conversation all
around.
Runners,
Jerry Steffy relays this report on last night's 4th weekly beginners run:
--------
June 7,
As you know, we did our workout then came to the Club meeting at Hi-way
pizza. We did 1/4s on the track, "1/4s on the 4s". We had 18 runners there
and all did very well and are improving their times from last month's 1/4s.
We will be meeting next Tuesday at Homestead Park and will be there for two
or three weeks. We've have had 36 runners come a least once. With a group
of 12 to 18 runners each week now, the group is a very fun group and low
key. Some did the Summerfest Mile last Saturday at OLV and did very well.
We will be working our way up to about 3 mile workouts by the end of the
summer.
- Jerry

By the way, that photo of me is not from a lineup...it's from my
drivers license, which I had scanned for some reason...I don't know
why..but then again, I don't remember what I ate for breakfast, either.

If anyone feels motivated, it would be great if you could post a
picture with your profile. That way when new members come, they can
refer back to the group site and learn names. I know I still only know
about 4 people's names that I can associate with a face!! And I want to
be able to say "Go Anne!! Go Dave!! Go Katherine!!" etc!!
Thanks!

Bob and I are trying this out! We have been going around in circles
to get registered. Boy if the time we spent figuring out how to use
this program we would have probably run about 2 miles (hee, hee!!)
You can guess we don't do this often! I hope everyone is well?! See
all of you on Tuesday "Lord willing!" take care and God bless!
Your running friends
Bob and Christine Rice (Kellie says Hi also!)
