if u think u can tell whats going on with jackson and favre by watching the few times they show the sideline on fox you really are not getting your information from a valid source. i actually go to the dome and watch the vikes and jackson is always in the little qb group with the qb coach. and anyways we have no idea whats goin on in practice, for all we know jackson is blowing favre. but what we do know is tavaris jackson is going to get another opportunity to be a starting qb either after favre leaves us or with another team and i wouldnt be surprised if jackson doesnt lead another team to the playoffs in his career and makes himself an above average starting qb. he has the arm strength, he can run, and last year he showed he had the poise which he was missing when he had his poorly played games.

Favre has been great as a Viking - Enjoy the ride - its awesome!!!
T-Jack sucks and will be out of purple soon; he must be smoking dope (oh sorry shooting the bull because he is never anywhere near Favre on the sideline while Sage has sucked it up and is doing all he can to help by being involved, consulting with Favre, analyzing photos, and most likely saying great job)!!! JUST WATCH THE DARN SIDELINE!!!
The Vikes need to draft a quality QB next year and hope Favre sticks around for another year or two so that he can learn from a master!!!
End of story!!!
Go Vikings!!!
P.S. Buddah-Jack will never get it - meaning both the pretend QB and his most loyal fan who have truly become one!!!

Haha I know - saying anything about t-Jack b/c of his performance yesterday in the 3 plays he was in just shows that you don't know what you're talking about. And I'm a favre fan.
Also a shout out to the Mackey's servers - fantastic job!

Guys,
Favre is awesome, he is doing what Jackson couldnt do last year. However we should not give up on Jackson, if he takes advantage of Favre's experience I think has the raw talent, he just needs to learn the decison making.
Remember Jackson won 8 of 12 games his first season. Since then he hasnt done great but compared to QBs around the league is in the mix. Favre has some bad years, so did Peyton manning, those are learning years
1-2 years from now we need a quarterback, Favre will eventually retire.

Totally agree with you there Buddah.
Buffster is like the type of fans that make most sports-related message boards useless. If possible, I would have put him on 'ignore' long ago. It's ok to dislike certain players, and to be passionate about sports, but comments like his last post are completely worthless and totally uncalled for.

Buff, I may have agreed with some of your statements maybe 3 times since joining this group. Hey, a difference of opinion is okay with me, and we should have the right to express ourselves here freely, but today you crossed the line. You Sir, are an idiot and your statements about dope smoking is as ridiculous as you are. Your hatred towards Jackson goes beyond the norm, and you should see a shrink. Yes, I have a hatred towards Favre, but at least he was the enemy who EVERY faithful Viking fan rooted against. I don't begrudge my fellow Vikings' fans from loving the fact he is now a Viking, even if it churns at my stomach. I can respect their desire to win, as I do yours, but come off your high horse. It is getting old. Dope smoking? No, you are the dope.
Jackson has improved in every year he has been on the team. His QB Rating: 2006 62.5 2007 70.8 2008 95.4
TD vs INT 2006 2 vs 4 (4 games) 2007 9 vs 12 (12 games) 2008
9 vs 2 (9 games)
A fan could look at these stats and see the vast improvement. Look at Cutler, 5 INTs in 1 game? Not everybody has what it takes to be a QB at this high level. It takes time. Under the "Buff" philosophy, you give up and throw in the towel at the first sign of failure. Failure happens with every QB.
Seeing what a healthy Rice can do, you wonder if Jackson had him and Harvin as a target last year, would he has been replaced? Not to mention Loadholt instead of Cook on the right side. I won't compare Jackson to Favre because it is ridiculous to do so. I am just saying that I rather win with him than an ex-Packer that I spent so many years rooting against. I agree with holding out Winfield and Berrian, Farve and Peterson should be pulled in late 3rd Qtr if we are up by 17 or more and have been dominating to that point. Must play to win each game then prudently give rest and experience to get through next 8 games.
Although any given team can win any given sunday our team needs to produce on every given sunday in prep for the playoffs. Once we get in we need to have the mindset to go all the way. . --- On Fri, 11/6/09, Rusty <James.OBrien.ctr@...> wrote:

Good points as always Bill. Minnesota media is indicating Winfield may indeed be held out another week as a precaution. That was part of the thinking in my post. The substitute DBs have done well without him against Steelers (Ben) and Packers (Rodgers) ... playing it safe with one or two valuable components to the rest of the season may be the smart thing to do.

starters who are older/slightly hurt a rest if they are up by 14 or so points in the 4th quarter. Seeing what a healthy Rice can do, you wonder if Jackson had him and Harvin as a target last year, would he has been replaced? Not to mention Loadholt instead of Cook on the right side. I won't compare Jackson to Favre because it is ridiculous to do so. I am just saying that I rather win with him than an ex-Packer that I spent so many years rooting against Buffster, why can't you understand that? Enjoy the season and forget about me.

Buff, I may have agreed with some of your statements maybe 3 times since joining
this group. Hey, a difference of opinion is okay with me, and we should have
the right to express ourselves here freely, but today you crossed the line. You
Sir, are an idiot and your statements about dope smoking is as ridiculous as you
are. Your hatred towards Jackson goes beyond the norm, and you should see a
shrink. Yes, I have a hatred towards Favre, but at least he was the enemy who
EVERY faithful Viking fan rooted against. I don't begrudge my fellow Vikings'
fans from loving the fact he is now a Viking, even if it churns at my stomach.
I can respect their desire to win, as I do yours, but come off your high horse.
It is getting old. Dope smoking? No, you are the dope.
Jackson has improved in every year he has been on the team. His QB Rating:
2006 62.5
2007 70.8
2008 95.4
TD vs INT
2006 2 vs 4 (4 games)
2007 9 vs 12 (12 games)
2008 9 vs 2 (9 games)
A fan could look at these stats and see the vast improvement. Look at Cutler, 5

This team has a real shot and Favre is a big part of it!!! Our biggest and only

Interesting thread. I have been a Viking fan for life and grew up in MN watching them with my dad, including going to a game in Met Stadium. I don't know what I would do if they moved. It would definitely lessen the Packer rivalry as alot of that comes from the proximity of the two teams. I think I would be bitter at the owner and would have mixed feelings about the team which would eventually become a completely new team after a few years of turnover.
I lived in Baltimore for much of the 90's when they went from no team to cheering for the CFL "Colts". I felt Modell totally screwed over the poor fans of Cleveland when he moved the "Browns" team to Balto. I know the Baltimore fans deserved a team but I could not embrace them even as an "AFC mistress" team because of the way they got there.

Of course, there are exceptions to changing loyalties - but this instance isn't one of them.
The fans of the Colts in Baltimore should rightfully have abandoned the Colts once Irsay screwed them over. I lived in Houston when Asshole Bud Adams screwed over the Houston fans and they should have rightfully abandoned the Oilers/Titans when he did so as well. Same should have happened when the Cards left St. Louis, the Rams left LA, and when the Raiders left Oakland originally (or when they left LA to go back to Oakland). But that is the extreme case. Hating the ownership shouldn't change your team loyalties (but boycotting the games, not buying merchandise and slamming the owners in the media via letters to the editor, blogging, and email barrages are all acceptable alternatives) . As for the "buying championships" thing, as long as the owner is trying to win titles for MY team and it doesn't cost ME anything more, I'm all for it. In fact, the
money argument is the purview of whiny fans who don't have the balls to tell their own billionaire owners to pony up more cash to players instead of hoarding it for themselves. Or don't you remember how cheap Red McCombs was when he was the Vikings owner? That cheap bastard wouldn't let Tice hire enough assistants to field a respectable staff, among other things. In fact, if more owners spent more on salaries for players and outbid the Yankees, the payroll disparity would have long disappeared. Good luck getting that salary cap passed in MLB without the owners being willing to sacrifice an entire season ala the NHL. For the record, I have no problem with a salary cap in baseball. It will only make it easier for me when the Yankees still win their share of titles. LOL
BTW, this year's Yankee roster contained a higher percentage of "homegrown" players than all but one team in the majors (Colorado) and led the entire AL in that catagory. Odd that no
Mets, Cubs or Red Sox fans were "morally repulsed" by those teams' high salaries, especially the Red Sox fans when they "bought" those two titles in 2004 and 2007. On that note, we will drop the baseball discussion.
As for the Redskins, when the ignorant Redskins fan base finally realizes that Snyder is only in it for the money, then they will finally start to show their displeasure by boycotting games. That will probably happen in about 20 years from now. In other words, never. LOL
Finally, the answer to your last question is that a fan can leave whenever he or she chooses. But the rest of us say to them, "Don't ever come back". Also, a fan risks his or her own credibility as a fan if he or she changes teams every time something bad happens. So, basically, a fan should not change teams unless something like the team moves or a similar drastic measure is taken and once they do, they should consider carefully which team to root for because
if they end up not liking their new team and decide to choose another, they will eventually have no credibility whatsoever as a fan of any team.
Sorry for the long diatribe, but you did bring up valid points that warranted addressing.
Luckily for us all, we are all diehard Vikings fans who will never leave our own team. GO VIKINGS!!!!! !!!

I've always been a firm believer in 'stick with your team no matter what'. I picked the Vikings when I was 6 or so, and I'll bleed purple to the day I die, no matter what.
But is that really the 'right' thing to do? Do franchises/owners deserve our unwavering loyalty in ALL circumstances? There are a lot of variables to consider.
What do poor Colts fans do when the owner moves their team to another city? Stick with the franchise despite an owner doing something like that in the way that he did it? And then not be a fan of an owner/team that moves into town to give the city back something they lost?
What if you are philosophically opposed to 'buying championships'? I could see a Yankee or Red Sox fan from the early days hating how the team operates currently. Sure they are within the rules, and maybe there are better examples of teams that were once more 'home grown' and now more 'mercenary'; but I have no problem with a former fan being morally repulsed by what the Yankees are doing and abandoning them.
What about Redskin fans? A once proud and glorious franchise sunk by a crappy owner that treats it's fans horribly. Should the 50 year season ticket holder, now a recent widow and unable to pay for her season tickets, still be a fan of the team that sued her?
I get the 'love the team, hate the owner (or coach or player)' thing, but the line is fuzzy sometimes. How long can a franchise do all the wrong things before it is 'ok', to switch allegiances?

Selling out isn't rooting for Favre now that he is a Viking (consider it his coming to his senses after having 16 years of amnesia) - selling out would be changing your team loyalties because of one thing or another. Big difference.
In this day and age of free agency, to focus on hating one player or another for all of eternity is foolish. For instance, I have had no problem watching Johnny Damon in a Yankees uniform, even though he once played for the hated Red Sox. In fact, I get great pleasure in knowing that the Yankees took a player that the Red Sox basically gave up on and watching him become a World Champion this year as a major contributor to the Yankees World Series title this year. And if things go right, I will gain as much or more pleasure in watching Favre hoist that Lombardi Trophy once the Vikings win the Super Bowl at the end of the NFL season.
Let it go, Buddah. Favre is a Viking and will be one until he retires. He is
having one of the best, if not the best, seasons of his illustrious career. And that, my friend, is the best revenge against the hated Packers for all those years that we had to put up with Favre beating our beloved Vikings. Hey, I was there in the Metrodome when Favre broke the all-time TD record against the Vikes - and I turned my back to the field and gave him the old one-finger salute with both barrels. But that was then and this is now. And right now, he is making things happen for us. Hopefully, all the way to the Super Bowl. Join in the fun, Buddah - you are missing out! :P

I seriously think Cutler is color blind. When in the red zone and all players in end zone are running around - no obvious route runner - he just throws to the one waving their arms the most. Further back he can see who is his receiver as they run a clear route (and fall down so they can be picked off)
Forte has techniques but didn't look fast enough in the legs for a top notch RB, and made some bad route decisions.
Bears defense though is pretty good but think we can run through them - like 2 years ago.
I watched with a bunch of Bears fans who were not happy mostly chanted - "give it to Olsen"- Italian Beef sandwich was highlight of the evening!
See you all early Sunday

I agree, Cajun. They don't need any locker room distractions, negativity or
primadonnas. Also have Chester.
Offense has solid backups (OK, "serviceable" is a better word for the QB
backups).
I think the DL is fine. Although Sapp, Allen and Paymah have held up even though
targeted, a veteran DB may not be out of the question. LB's are OK but if a
solid vet were available that is a potential option if any get dinged up.
By the way, just heard speculation on ESPN that TJ may see action this week.
Hope it's late 3rd or early 4th quarter because the Vikes are out by 3 TDs or
more and not because Farve's groin is a problem.

Awesome eye-opening comparison between the two coaches and their franchises.
It's also worth noting that after losing the first 5 meetings against the
Packers, Childress' Vikings have beaten them 3 straight times.

I disagree about the food - that was the best thing about T&H. And now that
Mackey's carries root beer for me, that would be a tie in the drinks catagory
for me (with the tiebreaker being that Mackey's went out of their way to
accommodate my love of root beer while T&H already had it in stock - but no
points deducted off of T&H on the drinks score). Crowded never bothered me
either place, but there seems to be a greater Vikings percentage of fans at
Mackey's, which is always good. As I said before, I won't knock T&H. They made
a business decision and will reap whatever rewards come of that. I wish them
well, but my loyalties now lie with Mackey's. I'll gladly send all of my
Steelers fans to T&H though. They treated me well while they were our official
home so I feel no need to bash them now that they moved into a different
direction. It's all good!

friendship between T&H and NovaVikes continues. Erik and Monty want me to pass
on that NovaVikings members are always welcome to stop by and have a drink or
something to eat. I'm doing that tonight -- then to Mackey's for my weekly wings
and Guinness fix.

Nov 15th against the Lions (1 PM). Please provide feedback and suggestions to me
and/or Marilaine so that we can ensure our Mackeys game day experience continues
to be outstanding.
