Subject: New Punter Bennett

After signing TE Wiggens, the Vikings turned their attention towards
Aussie Punter Darren Bennett.  Will he be the Punter when the season
starts though?  Tice never released Eddie Johnson because he still
felt the 2003 draft pick could get over his mid-season mental double
clutching of the football before he kicked the ball.  I think this
signing is not so clear cut as it might seem.  I believe it is not
over yet for Johnson until Bennett can clearly show he has won the
job outright.  Preseaon will ultimately make or break Johnson's
career in the NFL.  Potentially, the Vikings drafted Johnson to be a
top notch Punter knowing that his NCAA stats were well above
average.  I believe Tice's decision to hold and mold Johnson at the
end of last season is a clear indication that Tice still has high
hopes for the young kicker.  Yet it is now rumored that Johnson will
be cut as early as Monday.  Time will tell.  Either way the Vikings
signed a good punter.
