Reference the last posting about S&S "going under" ... please read
earlier postings on this site -- all is cool and there is no need to
panic. Dana sold the Stars and Stripes a little over a week ago and
the new management of "Turtle and Hare" want us back.
Further, from several accounts (including Dana and the new T&H
manager)things will actually be much improved. The T&H is closed for
remodeling and is planned to re-open on 22 Aug.
So, we may miss a few preseason games, but we will be full speed
ahead for opening Sunday against the Vick-less Falcons on Sep 9th.
So once again, NovaVike brethren ... keep the faith. This season
should be one of a few surprises -- we don't know what the menu at
T&H will be and we sure don't know how Jackson will fare at QB. What
we do know is that we'll find the answers to both of these questions
at our usual Viking hangout on Sep 9th.
Now, reference NovaVikes playing that "ridiculous" song. Thanks for
the input, but here's some background. "We're the Vikings" has been
an integral part of the NovaVike tradition for many years -- it was
played after Viking TD's when I joined in 1994 so its use predates
that. Visiting Viking Alumni have really liked that tradition (Stu
Voight, Paul Krause, Jerry Burns and others). On the other
hand, "Skol Vikings" does not have the solid, longtime history an
earlier posting mentioned -- I believe it was introduced by good ol'
former owner and used car salesman Red McCombs. For us, the
historical legitimacy of We're the Vikings" reigns. Besides, many of
us old timer NovaVikes like it.
That said, perhaps there may be something we can do to play Skol
Vikings at other appropriate times as well ... more to come.
PS -- Al and Joel are in Minnesota for tonight's preseason game.
PPS -- the new T&H owners will let us play our song after TDs on the
restaurant sound system (whatever the song is) ... we won't get that
at the sport bar.
