The Vikings will not attempt to land David Carr, a free agent of
significance, or a high profile draft pick - the Vikings and Zygi are
extremely cheap and unable or unwilling to spend any real cash. Some
may say that since Zygi bought the team that money was shelled out
for the likes of Hutch and Chester Taylor; however, he has unloaded
an even greater payroll via getting rid of other high profile players
like Culpepper, Harris and others. Our payroll is one of the
cheapest in the league - the numbers don't lie.
Many argue that Zygi and crew are one of the richest ownership groups
in the NFL. This is simply not true. Zygi is no where to be found
on the Forbes List of the Richest Americans and his overall net worth
is kept a secret - meaning his assets are great compared to your
average Joe but not compared to other pro franchise owners like
Daniel Snyder of the Redskins and many others who are not on the
Forbes list but still have significant reportable net worth of 500
million or more. Of course there are others that are on the list and
have the money to burn. One can look to Minnesota and Glenn Taylor
who ranks as one of the 200 richest in America and one of the 500
richest in the world.
The only way Zygi and crew would ever spend any money of significance
is with a new stadium deal that puts them in a venue that can
generate revenue. The state of Minnesota will not do that now that
money has been put out for the Twins and Gopher football - not to
mention the excel energy center for the Wild. Put simply, we are on
a road for some horrible seasons followed by a possible sale to a
city or state that will build a facility free of charge.
Bottom Line: Vikes are destined for the Division cellar and will
remain there for quite some time.
