Don't know if it's accurate since some in the Steelers org are denying
it, but it looks like they may be hiring Mike Tomlin as the next head
coach either today or tomorrow.
About the only good thing about last season was the defense. The
offense was awful - although there may have been a brief glimpse of
the future the last game as they had Jackson airing the ball out a bit
more - without a reciever who can stretch the field (and will catch
more than 25% of his passes, yeah, Williamson I'm talkin' about you!)
and perhaps some play-calling that moves past the 1970s of running the
same game plan week after week after week.
Now with Timlin possiably/probably gone things are only going to get
worse. I don't think I can set my expectations any lower given what
Childress did last year both in the draft and in the season. The
defense was about the only good thing of the year and now it's going
to take a tremendous hit.
I'm truly afraid they'll be finishing at the level of the Lions next
year... at least they have the draft position and the WRs to begin to
rebuild an offense, the Vikes have squat (both Jack and Diddly) and
they've shown that they can't draft worth a lick on offense so it
looks like a few more "rebuilding" years until Childress gets canned.
Happy Freakin' New Year indeed.
