No not really however a system of skills or techniques
need to go from beginer to advance techniques would be
helpful.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply:
My martial arts background as follows
1 year Tae Kwon Do training
18 months Jeet Kune Do training with Mike Krivka
during this time attended several seminars of Dan
Inosanto, shootwrestling with Erik Paulson and Lameco
Escrima with the late Edgar Sulite. While in my
federal service attended a 1 week ground fighting
seminar run by the FBI that emphasized Gracie Jujitsu
techniques. I have not trained much in the last 8
years though I am looking at getting back in to
training again.

I have been extremely busy over the last few months and have not been
able to spend as much time as I would like focusing on the group. We
are on schedule for training next Saturday 2/16. We have added some
additional members to the group (16 strong and growing), so please
take the time to make them feel welcome. A few things I would like
to address in the new year.
- We need a volunteer that can design a logo for the group
- I am looking for suggestions on changing the website to a group
website with forum capabilities. I would like to register a separate
domain name. Any suggestions for the website? Is there anyone that
is talented in web design that may be able to help out with this?
- Once we get a logo and website down I would like to get some t-
shirts made up for the group.
- We will be belt testing in the new year (following the wmaa
curriculum)
- There is a desire to compete, so there will be additional focus on
sparring
- We need to come up with a set of group formalities (membership
app, rules of engagement, group structure/positions, fees if any,
ect.) Any recommendations?
- We are going to turn the training intensity up a notch. I will
take everyone's experience into consideration and the intensity will
reflect experience with the group.
- We will introduce some of the history and tradition of Arnis into
the group. One of the group positions may be a historian that can
introduce a monthly history tidbit to the group.
- Let me know if you have any other suggestions that you would like
to see.
Thanks,
Guru Brian
Is this at Gravelly Point or your house?

I'm guessing you mean Rodel Arca, yeah? He's one of the kuyas in this
group. Good guy, Rodel. His brother JR as well.
You've got a couple of Doce Pares guys in the group? I trained with
the Patalinghug family in Pasadena, MD. From 1990 to 1995,
dedicatedly. I still train there every now and again. But it's been
a while.
Thanks for the invitation. We'll definitely take you up on that
sometime in the near future. Though maybe not until after the
holidays now. We've got a handful of new (and very enthusiastic)
people in the group, who I'm sure would like to touch base with other
FMA groups in the area.
Cheers Guro.
Stuart
Welcome Stuart,
I worked with a couple of bouncers at Polly Esthers in DC that were
running a group in Springfield. I'm not sure if it was the same
group. If anyone in the Springfield group is interested in coming
out the more the merrier.
There are also a couple guys in the group that have a Doce Pares
background. Everyone in the group ranges from very little
Arnis/Escrima/Kali backgrounds to years of experience.

Hey gang,
Name's Stuart. I'm an FMA player in Alexandria. I contacted Guro
Pancia about this site after coming across the DC Metro Arnis page. I
currently practice with another Modern Arnis group in Alexandria
(well, Springfield technically), led by Guro Roman Picardo. Most of my
FMA background is in Doce Pares though, with some Inosanto Kali thrown
in as well. I've also trained in taekwondo, JKD, kickboxing, karate,
and Western fencing for varying lengths of time. I'm a mutt.
Look forward to chatting with you. And perhaps paying a visit
sometime. Cheers.
Stuart
If my old bones can still carry me to be effective...:)
Here is my background, all within the last 8 yrs (an understanding
wife made that easier as I was going "full-time" almost every
evening, sometimes taking classes one after the other at two
different martial arts schools):
First Dan in Tae kwon Do, several competition trophies, a few
injuries. :)
Took Arnis classes from Brian Pancia for about 1.5 yrs almost every
Saturday (now remembering very little) :)
Taught 60 classes of 30+ people each in TKD (received Award of
Commendation from WTF)
Brown belt in Combat Hapkido
156 seesions in Jeet Kune Do
65 sessions in Muay Thai
Took several private lessons from Alain Burrese
4 yrs of Chinese Martial Arts - Northern Shoalin -- mostly forms,
including Yant Style Tai Chi Beijing Form, Tai Chi Straight Sword,
Tai Chi Long Form
Now teach a combo martial arts program to a few individuals; teach
Yang Style Tai Chi Beijing Form every Saturday
Trying to get to my retirement age without any injury.
Sorry for any confusion today. I did stop by Gravelly Point, but no
one was there. Next month (12/15) I am definetly planning to have
everyone out to the house. I would like to do a training/holiday party
for everyone. I will send an email out to everyone with the details.

Sounds good, what's the address?

Is anyone interested in belt testing?
Typically, I do not do belt testing. However, if there is enough
people that are interested I will be sure to incorporate all of the
material for testing in our training. If everyone decides to
incorporate belt testing, I would probably have a quarterly ceremony to
award belts. The catch is no one will know when I conduct the testing
and who receives a belt until the ceremony.
If you are interested in training outside the monthly session let
everyone know. This way you can team up and train outside the monthly
sessions. Also, Ed Mengel teaches in DC and Bethesda. His website is
http://www.arnisdc.com/ for more information.
I want to start incorporating everyone's experience into the group. I
am looking for one person to volunteer to teach a technique for the
November 20th session. We will take about 20 minutes to focus on a
technique that someone would like to teach.
