Northern Racing Club E Mail Update
14 February 2006
Going To The Dogs?
Belle Vue Stadium - Saturday Feb 25th 2006
The good news is that even though we didn't meet the min criteria
usually required I have managed to get a private room for the night
(Victoria Suite) although the 'bad news' is that it will cost a
little more (£30 – includes £5 of raffle tickets) although as all
responding to the option question plumped for the private room I
trust this will be well received. Whilst I could have kept the price
down by removing the hot food option I think in February this would
not be the best decision Id have made for the club this year!
The 'improved' package now includes:
• Admission plus racecard (latter not usually included in price)
• Room Hire (Victoria Suite) with bar/betting facilities
• Hot and Cold buffet style menu
• Glass of bucks fizz on arrival (not included in original option)
Whilst the evening will be largely informal I have asked the new
track manager (Carl Warren) to give a short talk and he also hopes
that trainer Nigel Saunders will be available to do the same. I have
asked if these can be before/after the 1st race with food served
from around the 2nd race time.
Doors open at 6.30pm with 1st race due off at 7.20am so Id have
thought the first speaker would be speaking at around 6.45 to 7.00pm.
Deadline for bookings is Saturday 18th February – please call Phil
Evans on 0161 973 5921 if you wish to book places.
2006 Flat Ownership Syndicate
Whilst the 2005 club questionnaire showed that we didn't have enough
demand for our own syndicate this year there was clearly demand for
a shared ownership group and having reviewed several options I feel
that the following option should appeal to members who have a desire
to be involved in a low cost racing syndicate in 2006!
The syndicate name is TBN Racing (Eric & Maggie Hemmings) who have
run previously successful syndicates (Calculaite was a triple winner
in 2005) and it will lease two horses between March-October 2006 to
be trained by Geraldine Rees at Sollom Nr Preston. Geraldine was of
course trainer of our successful horses Princess of Garda and
Kozando. Whilst leases are free the owners of the horses will retain
10-20% of any prize money (usual requirement is 50% so this is a
very good lease deal).
The horses are an unraced 2yo filly (Komaite by Malcesine) and
Pitbull a 3yo gelding (Makbul by Piccolo Cativo).
The 2yo is a full sister to a long string of winners including our
own Princess of Garda and more recently a group winner in
Castelletto. Other full brothers/sisters with winning form in the UK
are Lake Garda, Baby Barry & Piccollo Cativo. In short an excellent
pedigree and most of family (if not all) were winners as 2yo.
Pitbull cost £20k as a 2yo and has run 5 times from August-October
in 2005 finishing 3rd on one occasion and running creditably in most
other races. He is now handicapped at 67 and looks a nice prospect
in sprint handicaps for 2006.
Although shares are being sold at a cost of £250pm (8 payments in
total) for a 1/12th share in both horses I have agreed that if the
club buys shares we will break down into smaller lots and I would be
able to accept request for shares starting at £50pm and rising in
multiples of £25pm for those requiring larger stakes. Usual
syndicate rule will apply (copies sent to those applying) with
benefits including latest stable information on the horses,
discounted badges when running and a share of prize money at end of
season.
An initial stable visit was held in early February and both horses
were working well and Pitbull in particular was well advanced and
should be ready to run in the early part of the season. As shares
will be sold on a 1st come 1st served basis anyone wishing to
reserve a share can do so by sending a cheque (payable to NWRC
Owners Group) for the 1st instalment to Phil Evans, at 53 Dalebrook
Rd, Sale, Cheshire M33 3LB. Alternatively please contact Phil Evans
on 0161 973 5921 for further details/queries..

GRAND NATIONAL SWEEPSTAKE
REASONS FOR HOLDING THE SWEEPSTAKE
Members of long standing will recall that in the past the club held
a 'Grand National Draw' which in its heyday raised over £1500 of
ticket sales and raised around £500 pa towards club funds. After
sales dropped away a few years ago it was decided to stop the draw
as it no longer generated funds for the club.
As members will be aware we have recently taken production
of 'Racin' in house and this has led to a large capex spend on new
computers, printers, scanners etc which has depleted the club
reserves in the short term. As such a few additional fund raising
events such as this will be held during 2006.
HOW THE SWEEPSTAKE WORKS
The aim was to make the sweepstake hard but not impossible to win!
Remember there must be a winner of this from the club membership.
The aim is to pick 5 horses for the Grand National and the three
best placed horses will count towards your point's total. By picking
5 horses this allows you a couple of horses that fail to complete
the race.
It will cost £5 per entry (multiple entries accepted) with 70% of
entry fee going towards the prize money and 30% retained towards
club funds.
As everyone loves a flutter on the big race we hope members will
encourage their friends/relatives to have a go as well!
There will be a single cash prize to the overall winner although in
the event of a tie the prize fund will be equally divided. A small
runner up prize (non cash) will also be awarded to the best runner
up entry.
HOW THE WINNER IS DETERMINED
The top three finishers on each entry will score points providing
they finish 9th or better. 1st place will score 9pts, 2nd place 8pts
and down to 9th place scoring 1pt
In the event that an entry contains a non runner and the reserve
horse(s) run then the reserve horse with the lowest racecard number
will replace the non runner with the lowest racecard number. If the
withdrawal is too late to use the reserve horse then the non runner
in the entry will be replaced by the next available best backed
horse (if more than one runner at same odds the lowest racecard
number will apply).
The winner(s) will be the entry(ies) with the highest score.
WHERE/WHEN TO SEND ENTRIES
To encourage as many entries as possible the following methods of
entry will be available - please ensure that your name/address is on
the entry with either the full names of the horses or their racecard
numbers:
1. Entry forms will be available at the Aintree Festival
preview night at Haydock Park on Wed 5th April.
2. Postal entries can be made as long as they are received in
the post by Saturday 8th April. As the final entries for the race
are well publicised in advance this should not be a problem.
3. Entrants may also either e mail or text their entries before
1pm on Saturday 8th April as long as they have registered (pre paid)
their entry fee to arrive on/before 8th April. E mail entries to be
sent to info@... and texts to be sent to
07984295327.
4. Telephone entries cannot be accepted as the line will be
used for the Saturday Naps competition that day.
5. The organiser (and his direct family) may enter the
sweepstake as long as the entries are posted on the club's Yahoo web
site on/before 1pm on the day of the race.
Please make all cheques payable to Northern Racing Club and send to
NRC 'National Sweepstake', 53 Dalebrook Rd, Brooklands, Sale,
Cheshire M33 3LB.
