Northern Racing Club E Mail Update
8 January 2006
On behalf of Northern Racing Club I shall start by wishing all
members and friends of the club a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
2006 is a milestone for the club as it sees us changing our name
after over 25 years to Northern Racing Club to reflect the fact that
we are now attracting members from a much wider area.
After a quiet couple of months over Xmas and New Year the club
activities will again resume in earnest with the next couple of
events being as follows:
FORTHCOMING EVENTS
The 'Alternative' Club Dinner/Awards Night
Belle Vue Stadium - Saturday Feb 25th 2006
Our Dinner Secretary has been unable to plan a dinner for early 2006
due to recent poor health although we hope Dave Kay will be fit and
well again next year when a Racing Dinner is planned to co-incide
with the first September fixture at Haydock Park.
However as many members enjoy the late winter dinner feature we have
speedily arranged an alternative event at Belle Vue Greyhound
Stadium in Manchester. Please note there is no racing fixture at
Haydock on this date. We have also arranged for the track manager
John Gilburm and a local (greyhound) trainer to give a short talk to
members on the night.
We can either book a private room (if available) which requires a
minimum of 60 attending with a hot & cold buffet style meal or take
a 3 course meal option in the restaurant where a typical main course
choice will consist of the following:
o Rib Eye of Beef with a Three-Peppercorn Sauce
o Half Roast Chicken with a Rich Sage Gravy
o Supreme of Salmon with Coriander and Lemon Crust
o Cherry Tomato and Pesto Filo Tart
In the private room tables can be set out to meet our requirements
although in the restaurant most tables are for 4 people (some for
6). Either way the facility gives a track side view for enjoying the
evenings sport - racing usually starts just before 7.30 and there
will be around 12 races every 15 minutes or so. With waitress
service for food, drink and bets there isn't any need to leave the
reserved tables unless a trip outside into the cold night air is
essential!
Either way the cost will be about £25pp (includes entry). As booking
with Belle Vue can only be made once applications are received we do
need early responses to guarantee places, especially if the private
room option is to be pursued. We hope that all people booking will
accept either option thus on the form below the 'preference' will be
used to determine nature of booking from all applications received
by 15th January 2006 - after that date applications will be accepted
(subject to availability) but the option of facility will no longer
be available.
During the evening the usual club awards will also be made re the
Alex Bird & Totesport Saturday Naps Challenge.
NRC DINNER - BELLE VUE, MANCHESTER - SATURDAY 25th FEB 2006
Please reserve
.places for the above event at £25pp with cqs
payable to NRC.
My preference is for Private Room / Restaurant package (delete as
appropriate) but I confirm that either option will be acceptable.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS 2006
The club will be looking to expand its fundraising events in 2006 to
help replenish our reserves again!
There are a number of ways members can assist by supporting these
events or even considering suggesting further events for
consideration
o We currently have a few spare places in our monthly 49's
draw it costs just £1pm to enter with a monthly £40 prize
available. Contact northernrc@... for further details.
o We shall be launching a revised Grand National Draw for the
big race in April with a share of the total prize fund going towards
the club. Further details will be produced shortly.
o If anyone is considering joining Betfair they are currently
offering introducers a `reward' of around £20 once the account
becomes fully active by using the code below when registering you
will help the club raise funds in the future
XYDAYYFNK
To re-launch the Yahoo messages site members will now see the
above `banner' on many of the club's main web sites.
Besides all the latest club news members may also wish to follow
some of the tips that I post from time to time an excerpt from
yesterday's message (ignoring all losers!) is set out below:
At Lingfield an interesting trend in the 1.40 race is that all three
previous events were won by
jockey E Ahern today's mount Sky High Guy is quoted at 14-1 in the
paper and whilst no real form
to go on thus if decent place odds on Betfair it may be worth a
small interest. Finished 2nd at 14-1.
In the final race on this card at 3.50 again only three previous
races although all winners were drawn in
stalls 1-4. Egyptian Lord makes a 400 mile plus return journey from
the NW and is from a yard in decent form
over the winter so even though latest price of 11/4 is tight enough
Id expect a bold show from this one.
Won at 3-1.
