Two races where stats worth a mention today.
In the Cesarewitch at Newmarket (2.45) since the field increased to
36 runners in last two years the race winner has come from stall 36
both times (with one runner up drawn 35 of 36).
A 2m 2f race is hardly material for following the draw but these
stats are interesting and the year before stall 32/33 obliged.
In stall 36 today is Dubai Seven Stars (available at 100-1 at Corals)
who was plum last in the race last year having led till the 6f pole.
However that run was 6 days afyer its previous run - hardly ideal
prep for a big stayers race! Maybe connections thought they wouldnt
get in the race so they went elsewhere first but then made the cut so
thought they may as well have a go?
The previous year of course the forse ran a much better 3rd in the
race behind stablemate Miss Fara - one of the Pipe yards two winners
in the last four years.
Lack of arace this year is not ideal nor is being out of the
handicap although a 5lb claim is an aid.
Only flat win on fast ground and had fairly modest form over jumps
last season (1 win).
Stall 35 is the berth for Escayola who boasts much better form but
the fig negative is the ground becoming soft plus a 4lb penalty - the
odds have now drifted out to 16-1 in most places.
Another race to consider is the 1.50 Catterick where stall 7 has
obliged both times there have been 7 runners in this race since 1993.
BOND CITY has right credentials to win again.
In the other large fields for handicaps at this meeting (up to 7f) a
high draw is often an advantage if the fields come across to the
stand side on the run in - worth seeing how they take the straight in
earlier races today.
