CARTMEL TRENDSETTERS GUIDE 1999-2008 MONDAY 25TH May 2009

The following notes may help race-goers today to draw up a shortlist of
potential winners in each of the six races on the card. Good luck!

(2.25) 2M2F Novices Selling Hurdle: Favourites have won 6 of the last 9 races in
this event with all but one winner having odds of 5/1 or shorter. Trainer Sue
Smith has saddled 2 of the last 3 winners. 4yo are the preferred age group with
5/9 wins.

(3.00) 2M2F Novice Hurdle for 4yo: Once again favourite backers tend to fare
well in this race with 6/9 winners, albeit one was joint favourite. With longest
winning odds seen at 3/1 it rarely pays to look any further than the first two
in the betting. C Mann is the leading trainer with 2 wins in the race - latest
being in 2004.

(3.35) 2M6F Beginners Chase: Only run 5 times in current format with favourites
winning just twice although 4/5 winners had odds of 4/1 or shorter. Apart from
last year all other winners finished 2nd in their previous race. Last 3 winners
aged 7yo.

(4.10) 2M6F Maiden Hunter Chase: Only run 3 times before at current distance
with no winning favourite yet and last two winners at odds of 16/1. No winner
had good recent form over regulation fences with all failing to complete their
last race!

(4.45) 2M6F Novices Handicap Chase: Last year's winning favourite was the only
one since local equine heroine Debs Ball won the race in 1993! That said 7/9
winners had odds of 5/1 or shorter so usually best to look at the first three
horses in the betting market. Tarporley trainer R Ford has trained 2 winners
since 2000.

(5.20) 3M2F Handicap Hurdle: This race has been restricted to conditional
jockeys only since 2005 and in all races the winners were easy to back at odds
ranging from 8/1 to 16/1. A common theme in all 4 past winners has been that all
last raced some 5-23 days earlier and all carried a weight of 10st 11lbs or less
(before any jockeys claiming allowances).
