November 18th Meeting - Trendsetters Guide (1997-2006)

Previous race trends can often help provide a shortlist of
potentialwinners in the current year's races - hopefully these brief
pointers will assist racegoers at Carlisle today. This meeting was
first run in its current format in 2006 although some races were
previously run at other fixtures - only races run at least three
times previously are featured below. The figure in brackets after the
race details is the favourite's strike rate for the race:

(12.30) 2M 4F Novice Hurdle (60%): All five past winners had SP's of
6/1 or shorter. 4/5 winners were 5yo. Apart from one NH debutant the
remainder had finished 3rd or better on their last run. J J O'Neill
is the leading trainer in the race with two wins albeit latest was in
1998.

(1.35) 2M 1F Handicap Hurdle (56%) : Favourites strike rate is strong
for a handicap hurdle race where all eight past winners were well
backed at odds of 5/1 or shorter. J J O'Neill is again leading
trainer with two past winners although look out for K Reveley's
runners also as mother Mary saddled two past winners in the race from
their saltburn yard.

(2.10) 3M 2F Handicap Chase (12%): Favourite's record in this race is
weak although 7/8 past winners had odds of 6/1 or shorter thus
generally best to look at the better backed horses - albeit last year
saw a 16/1 winner in Datito. Don't be put off by horses who failed to
complete their last race as 3/8 winners had this trait. That said all
eight past winners finished 5th or better on their last completed
race.

(3.50) 2M 1F NH Flat Race (50%): Past winners were generally well
supported with odds of 8/1 or shorter. Of the six past winners there
were four making their NH debut's whilst the other two finished
1st/2nd in only race in the previous season. J M Jefferson is the
leading trainer in the race with two winners - latest one was in 1999
though.

The leading jockeys/trainers at this meeting for the last ten years
are as follows:

Trainers: J J O'Neill 4 wins, L Lungo & A Parker 3 wins, F Murphy & J
M Jefferson 2 wins.

Jockeys: A Dempsey, A Dobbin, G lee, K Mercer, R McGrath all 2 wins
each.
