CARTMEL TRENDSETTERS GUIDE (1997-2006)

Past trends of races can often help find a shortlist of potential
winners in the current years races - hopefully these brief pointers
will assist race goers at Cartmel today. The figures in brackets
after the race details is the favourite's past record in the race.

(2.20) 2M 1F Juvenile Hurdle for 3yo (40%); Five of last ten winners
finished 3rd or better on last run (four actually won their last
race) with the other five past winners making their debuts under NH
rules. Only one winner had odds longer than 13/2 thus it may pay to
follow the better backed horses on the day.
(2.55) 2M 1F Selling H'cap Hurdle (20%); Trainer Alan Berry has won
this race on three of the last four occasions with Peters Imp -
however the horse has been entered in other races at this year's
meeting so a fourth win will not be possible! Peters Imp won all it's
races having run two days earlier on the Saturday fixture here as did
Apadi in 2001 with most other past winners having raced within the
last 16 days.
(3.30) 2M 6F H'cap Chase (30%); Most past winners had finished
between 2nd & 6th place in their last race and generally a last run
within 29 days will be a positive. Oldest winner aged 11yrs with 8/9
year olds being the preferred age group with 6/10 wins.
(4.05) 3M 2F H'cap Chase (18%): The last winning favourite was in
1998 with longest winners SP seen being 8/1. A 5th place or better on
the horse's last completed run is a consistent form factor. Do not be
put off by horses lacking a recent run as 5/8 winners had been rested
for at least 83 days with all past winners being off the track for at
least 11 days. Veterans aged 11+ have taken 4/8 races since 1997.
(4.40) 2M 6F H'cap Hurdle (25%); Only run four times since 1997 with
all winners having a 4th place or better on at least one of last two
outings. All past winners were aged between 4-7yrs. All also last
raced between 24-61 days earlier.
(5.15) 2M 2F Maiden Hurdle (30%); All past winners aged between 4-
6yrs with 5yo having a slightly better record with 5/10 wins. 6/10
past winners had finished 2nd/3rd on at least one of last three races
whilst 3 other winners were making their NH debuts. Only one winner
had odds greater than 8/1 so best to follow the betting market on the
day.
