CARTMEL TRENDSETTERS GUIDE (1997-2006)

Past trends of races can often help find a shortlist of potential
winners in the current years races - hopefully these brief pointers
will assist race goers at Cartmel today. The figures in brackets
after the race details is the favourite's past record in the race.

(2.10) 2M 2F Nov H'cap Hurdle (31%): Run 8 times in current format
with all past winners aged between 4-6yrs. All had finished 6th or
better on at least one of last two completed races and had been
rested at least 7 days since their last race. Apart from last year's
surprise 33/1 winner (Oniz Tiptoes) all other winners were well
backed at odds of 8/1 or shorter.
(2.40) 2M 6F Selling H'cap Hurdle (25%): Winners age group has
varied from 5-10yrs old in this race with 5yo being the preferred age
group with 4/10 wins. Winners most recent form can often appear poor
although most had finished 3rd or better on at least one of last
four completed races. Outsiders can win this race but 7/10 winners
had odds of 15/2 or shorter so generally pays to follow the better
backed horses on the day.
(3.15) 2M 5F Beginners Chase (25%): Only run four times in current
format with all winners having finished 3rd or better on their last
completed race. All winners to date have been aged 5-7yrs old.
Longest odds seen in past winners has been 8/1 so again appears best
to follow the well backed horses on the day.
(4.05) 2M 2F Novices H'cap Chase (40%): All past winners aged
between 6-10yrs although the preferred age group is 8/9yrs with 7/10
winners coming from this age group. Horses at the top of the handicap
(carrying 11st+) have the best record whilst all winners were rested
for at least 12 days since last race where a 3rd/4th/5th place was
noted in 8/10 past winners. Mrs S J Smith is leading trainer with 3
wins in this event (latest 2000).
(4.25) 2M 2F H'cap Hurdle (N/A): A new race for 2007.
(4.55) 2M 6F Maiden Hurdle (33%): Only run three times since 1998 so
limited trends for this event. Two of the winners finished 4th or
better on last completed race, having since been rested for at least
20 days, with all winners well backed at odds of 8/1 or shorter.
Preferred age group is 6/7 years old.
