August 22nd Meeting - Trendsetters Guide (1997-2006)
Previous race trends can often help provide a shortlist of potential
winners in the current year's races - hopefully these brief pointers
will assist Racegoers at Carlisle today. Due to the changes in the
race schedule in 2007 there are only sufficient past records for
three races
today. The figure in brackets after the race details is the
favourite's strike rate for the race and the `lucky stall` number is
the draw providing the most winners for race in previous years,
where applicable:
(2.50) 5 Furlong Maiden Auction Stakes for 2yo (25%): All eight past
winners
were well backed at odds of 6/1 or shorter. The going at this
meeting is usually good or firm and on this ground a low-middle draw
seems to be moderately favoured. Only one unraced horse has won this
since 1997 with a last run finishing 6th or better seen for six or
the other seven winners. All past winners had been rested for at
least 9 days since their last outing. Lucky stalls #4 (3 wins) #7 (2
wins).
(3.25) 5 Furlong Handicap (12%) : Whilst this race is over the same
trip as the race above it does tend to attract a much larger field
and this is the key factor when assessing the impact of the draw as
in this race a middle-high draw seems moderately favoured - again
this assumes that good or firm ground is encountered at the meeting.
All past winners raced within the last 50 days (finishing 5th or
better on either of last two starts) and seven of the last eight
winners had odds of 10/1 or shorter. D Nicholls is the leading
trainer in this race with two wins. Lucky stall #10 (2 wins).
(4.00) 1 Mile Handicap (25%): All four past winners had finished
1st/2nd on their last outing and were well backed at odds of 12/1 or
shorter. In very large fields a high draw appears to have an
advantage but in smaller fields there seems little draw bias.
The leading jockeys/trainers at this meeting for the last seven years
are as follows:
Trainers: D Nicholls 3 wins.
Jockeys: F Lynch 3 wins
