GLORIOUS GOODWOOD 10 YEAR TRENDS

The following notes may help readers to draw up short lists for the
races in this year's major July flat meeting. The race order is as
run in 2006 and after each race name/detail a figure in brackets
represents the favourites win percentage record in the race.

TUESDAY

1M 2F HANDICAP (10%); A 5th place or better LTO was seen in 9/10
winners having last run within previous 41 days. 4yo have the best
record with 6 wins followed by 5yo with 3 wins with oldest winner
aged 6yrs. A middle draw seems best.
1M 4F GRP 3 GORDON STAKES (15%); A 3rd place or better LTO was seen
in 9/10 winners and all had won at least once on last four outings.
All last raced 19-66 days earlier.
7FURL GRP 2 LENNOX STAKES (14%); All winners aged between 3-5yrs and
last raced 17-45 days earlier generally finishing 6th or better.
Middle-high draw appears preferable.
5 FURL GRP 3 MOLECOMB STAKES (40%); All but one had last race 10-26
days before. Majority of past winners had raced at least three times
in current season.
1M 6F HANDICAP (35%); M Johnston is leading trainer with 3 wins in
the last 5 years. All winners last raced 17-45 days before. No winner
aged more than 5yrs. 8/10 winners had finished 4th or better on last
outing.
6 FURL MAIDEN FOR 2YO (50%); M Tregoning is leading trainer with 3
wins. Most has raced only once finishing 5th or better on debut
within the last 8-47 days. Stall 1 has best record in the race with 4
wins from 10.
1 MILE HANDICAP (30%); 9/10 winners finished 5th or better LTO having
last raced 2-39 days earlier. In large fields (of 19+ runners) a high
draw (top 4 stalls) seems an advantage. 4yo have the best record with
5/10 wins.

WEDNESDAY

2M 5F HANDICAP (35%); 9/10winners were 4th or better on last outing.
4 year olds are preferred age group with 6 wins followed by 5yo with
3 wins and no winner was aged older than 6yrs. All last raced within
5-43 days earlier.
7 FURL GR 2 VINTAGE STAKES (40%); 9/10 winners finished 1st LTO with
the other finishing 2nd on only outing. Last run usually between 11-
41 days earlier A middle draw seems best avoided. The race has thrown
up past winners who have gone onto 3yo classic success in Dr Devious,
Mister Baileys and Sir Percy since 1991.
1 MILE GRP 1 SUSSEX STAKES (25%): One 20-1 shock winner but rest were
15/2 or shorter. A 1st/2nd place LTO was seen for all winners. 3 year
olds have produced 5 winners and 4year olds 3 winners. A middle-high
draw seems preferable.
1M 4F HANDICAP 3YO (10%); All had finished either 1st/2nd on one or
more of last two outings. A last run 18-47 days earlier also seen for
all winners.
1M 1F FILLIES HANDICAP (50%); A win/placed run on either of last two
outings is a common factor in this event. All last ran within 11-32
days. 3 year olds fare best with 7/10 wins.
6 FURL MAIDEN (FILIES) FOR 2YO (60%); J Dunlop is the leading trainer
with 4 wins, including the last two. No winner had raced more than
once (finishing 5th or better) with 3 making their debuts. Longest SP
was 5/1 so best following the money in this event!
7 FURLONG CONDITIONS STAKES (50%); All last raced 7-42 days earlier
with none actually winning LTO. 3yo fare best in this event with 4/7
wins and oldest winner aged 6yrs.
.
THURSDAY

1M 6F LILY LANGTREE STAKES (0%); All four winners had finished 4th or
better LTO as well as winning at least once on last three outings.
Seb Sanders is the jockey to follow having ridden3 out of 4 winners.
5 FURL GRP 3 KING GEORGE STKS (30%); A middle draw appears to be a
disadvantage. Longest SP 11-1. All winners aged between 3-6 years
old. All raced within last 4-42 days.
2 MILE GRP 3 GOODWOOD CUP (35%); M Johnston is the leading trainer
with 4 wins in this event. A last run at Royal Ascot has produced 8
winners (with only one winner of the ascot equivalent following up
here).
1M 2F HANDICAP 3YO (30%); A 1st/2nd run on either of last two
outings was a common factor in 8/10 winners. All last raced within 2-
23 days. In last 7 years a high draw has produced most winners.
7 FURL HANDICAP 3YO (0%) . A 6th place or better LTO was seen in
7/10 winners. A low draw (less than 8) seems a major disadvantage.
7 FURL MAIDEN (FILLIES) 2YO (45%); H Cecil is leading trainer with 3
wins. There have been 5 unraced winners and 5 finishing 5th or better
LTO. A middle-high draw is preferred.
5 FURL HANDICAP (40%); Race now named after Zuhair who was
responsible for 4 of D Nicholls 5 wins in the event - the last of
which was with Zuhair in 2002. A middle-high draw seems essential
with all but one winner being 6th or better LTO

FRIDAY

1M 4F LISTED STKS 4yo+ (40%): M Johnston is the leading trainer with
3 wins. 4yo is the leading age group with 6 wins with all winners
aged 6yrs or younger. Middle drawn horses are generally best avoided.
7 FURL GRP 3 OAK TREE STAKES (40%); Race has been dominated by 3yo's
with 8/10 wins. Last 9 winners finished 5th or better LTO. A medium-
high draw seems to be a distinct advantage.
1 MILE `TOTESPORT' HANDICAP (10%); Draw has large influence in this
event with 8 drawn high and 2 middle. 4yo age group preferred with 5
wins and 5yo with 3 wins. A 6th place or better usually seen on last
outing. Longest SP seen 14-1.
6 FURL GRP 2 RICHMOND STAKES 2YO (40%); Although field size moderate
a middle-high draw seems essential. Only two winners finished worse
than 2nd on last outing. Last run usually within 11-34 days.
7 FURL NURSERY HANDICAP FOR 2YO (33%); 9/10 winners finished 4th or
better LTO Horses carrying 8st 13lbs or lower have won the last 8
races.
6 FURL STEWARDS SPRINT HANDICAP (50%); D Nicholls (Flak Jacket three
times) has won this race 5 times and will no doubt again have
multiple entries in the race. All but one of the Nicholls winners
raced 2 days earlier (other 9 days before) finishing in first 4 home.
Only one winner since 1999 finished worse than 4th LTO.
5 FURL HANDICAP (5%); A draw in the lowest four stalls or highest
three stalls is a very consistent requirement in this race. All but
one winner had finished in first three on either of last two outings.
Only three horses carried more than 8st 12lbs.

SATURDAY

1M 3F H'CAP (n/a): New race in 2005 with both winners to date drawn
low (4 or lower), placed 4th or better LTO, and carrying between 8st
13lbs and 9st 2lbs.
1 MILE CONDITIONS STAKES (20%); Only two winners were worse than 5th
LTO with all but one being well backed with SP's 7-1 or shorter.
1M 2F GRP 2 NASSAU STAKES (60%); M Stoute is the leading trainer with
three winners who all won first time out in current season as well.
3yo have taken 7/10 races although the last three winners were aged 4
or 5yo. All winners last raced 17-57 days earlier and had won at
least one of last two races.
6 FURL STEWARDS CUP HANDICAP (13%); Draw effect has seen 4 drawn
high, 3 middle and 3 low - the favoured stall is number 19 having
produced three of last six winners.. Most winners finished 5th or
better LTO and all but one had been 1st/2nd on either of last two
outings. Last run usually seen 6-56 days earlier. Preferred age
groups are 4&5yo with 4 wins each and oldest winner aged 6yrs. Last
four winners well supported at 10/1 or shorter and with either 3 or 4
runs in current season seem to have been specifically trained for the
race.
7FURL MAIDEN FOR 2YO (30%); Two debutant winners with most others
finishing 2nd/3rd on either of last two races. A middle draw seems
least favoured in this event.
6 FURL NURSERY HANDICAP 2YO (35%); R Hannon is leading trainer with
three wins. All but one winner had finished 1st/2nd/3rd on either of
last two outings.
1M 1F APP HANDICAP (66%); Restricted to apprentice jockeys since
2004. All three winners had finished 4th or better on at least one of
last two outings and all last raced between 4-7 days earlier. All
well supported at odds of 11/2 or shorter.
