June 27th (Bell & Plate Day) 10 Year Trends

Previous race trends can often help provide a shortlist of potential
winners in the current year's races - hopefully these brief pointers
will assist racegoers at Carlisle today. The 'Lucky Stalls' are those
providing the most winners of the races since 1997. Due to the
changes in the race schedule in 2007 there are only past records for
five races today as follows:

(2.00) 6 Furl Mdn (2yo): Favourites fare quite well in this event
with a 58% strike rate with only one winner at odds higher than
15/2. A 5th or better place on last run (or an unraced horse) is
preferred. Leading trainers are M Prescott & M Johnston with 2 wins
each. Lucky stalls - stall 7 (3 wins), stalls 2 & 6 (2 wins).

(2.30) 5 Furl Mdn Auct (2yo): Again favourites fare well in this
event with a 63% strike rate seen. Six of last seven winners
finished
2nd/3rd/4th on last outing - within last 29 days. Lucky stall - stall
5 (2 wins).

(3.30) Carlisle Bell (1Mile H'cap): Whilst favourites have a modest
18% strike rate the last ten winners were all reasonably well
supported at
odds of 11/1 or shorter. Good form on last outing (all within last 28
days) seems essential with 9/10 finishing 4th or better last time
and the other past winner finishing 6th. Oldest winner aged 6yrs.
Lucky stall - stall 4 (2 wins).

(4.00) Cumberland Plate (1M 4F H'cap): Not a strong race for
favourites with only a 15% strike rate and four winners odds12-1
or greater so clearly usually a very open race. 5yo is preferred age
group with 6/10 wins. Last five winners had run only once/twice in
current season with none off the track for more than 38 days.
Lucky stalls - stalls 2 & 11 (2 wins each).

(5.00) 5 Furl H'cap (3yo+): Race previously restricted to 3yo only.
Draw trends in that race suggest a middle-high draw preferred.

In addition to actual race trends it is worth looking at the leading
jockeys & trainers at this meeting over the last 10 years as follows:

Leading Jockeys: F Lynch, J Spencer (4 wins), F Norton, N Callan, K
Darley, D McKeown (3 wins).
Leading Trainers: M Johnston (4 wins), E Alston, K Burke (3 wins).
