Past trends of races can often help find a shortlist of potential
winners in the current years races - hopefully these brief pointers
will assist race goers at Hexham today. The figures in brackets after
the race details is the favourite's past record in the race.

2 Mile (Mares) Novices Hurdle (33%): Run 6 times in current format
with all past winners finishing 3rd or better on last outing within 9-
37 days. All were well supported in betting with SP's of 9/2 or
shorter. P Webber is the leading trainer with 2 winners in 2003+2005.
2 Mile Handicap Hurdle (25%): All winners had finished 5th or better
on last completed run (excludes falls, pulled up etc). Conditional
jockeys have a good record in this event having ridden 6/8 most
recent winners. In terms of weight carried the last 4 winners were at
the top end of the handicap carrying 11st 10lbs or more. No real
surprise winners in this race with longest winners odds since 1999
being 8-1.
2 Mile Handicap Chase (12%): Only one of last eight winners did not
finish 4th or better on their last completed outing with none off the
track for more than 50 days. No winner aged older than 9yrs. Trainers
R Allan. M Todhunter and J Quinn have all trained 2 winners of the
race since 1999. Although favourites record is weak the odds of the
winner are generally 6/1 or shorter with just one exception in the
last 8 races.
2M 4F Novices Handicap Hurdle (37%): A race with few consistent
trends although all past winners had finished 6th or better on at
least one of last two outings with the last seven winners allotted a
weight of 11st 2lbs or higher.
2 M 4F H'cap Chase (0%): A poor race for favourites with one shock
66/1 winner but rest backed at 12/1 or shorter. Lower weighted horses
have fared best in this event with the last 7 allotted 10at 13lbs or
less. In the last four years conditional jockeys (claiming weight
allowances) have ridden the winner. A 6th place or better seen in all
winners on their last completed race with most last racing between 9-
24 days earlier.
2 Mile NH Flat Race (55%): Favourites have a decent record in this
race with leading stables supplying most of the winners in this event
with longest winners SP being 8/1. 5yo have a slightly better record
than 4yo with only one 6yo winner since 1999.
