-----
A few weeks ago, 4/16/09, Obama's Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar held the last of 4 regional public hearings here in San Francisco on whether to continue with one of the final acts of the Bush Administration, the lifting of the moratorium on offshore drilling. The Secretary presented a report by the Minerals Management Service (MMS) on the energy resources of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). In attendance were, public officials, Barbara Boxer and the Governor of Oregon amoung others, citizens, activists and petroleum industry lobbyists.
The latter part of the day was devoted to taking comments from the public. I filled out a comment card on behalf of the 600 or so surfers of the NorCal Surfing Group asking the Secretary to view our unspoiled natural coastline as a resource for recreation and quality of life and to not allow for the expansion of offshore drilling and to encourage the development of renewable and environmentally responsible sources of energy.
There was a rally in the middle of the day. Jeff, the bartender at the Riptide's Wet. Weds. performed a piece, "Drill, Baby, Drill" with his guerilla theater group. Videoed and edited by yours truly, first ever. Check it out for it's big screen premier Wed. at the Riptide or check it out here:
