Thank you, all, for supporting this group. I created it to give the
independant groups a place to talk/vent/teach...I believe that that
time is now past as so many SPECIFIC sites exist, this one no longer
has to. SO I am closing it...I have done what I set out to do...If any
of you would like to take the reigns, so be it...

I have achieved what I wanted...open style discussion...

Let me know, otherwise I will close by the end of the week.

Truly thanks to all, but it appears my job is done.

Keep swinging!

Dirk

Given the last post was in July and nothing since then, perhaps that is the
right decision I
have started and ended groups when they pass their use by date. It was a good
idea,
achieved what you wanted it to and now time to move on. Of coruse if anyone
wants to
take you up on your offer and revitalise it, go for it. If I can be helpful of
course I will be.
Cheers Perry

Dirk.

I'll be sorry to see this list go, but you may be right. I havn't had much time to read any of this in the last year (Been working 70-90 hr work weeks) let alone do any stick work :-(
It's taken a while to catch up.

Perry.

You mentioned that you were putting something together with family fighting techniques... If you are still interested I have one for using a belt. Let me know if you are still interested.

Thanks

Gary

I think you are right Dirk.
there are so few people with the balls to actually try
this thing for real that it is better to have one big
group instead of a bunch of little ones.

Gary, I nearly fought a man in Manila who whipped off his belt... a Lubidero or
Lubid (Belt) fighter. I thought he was going for a knife and as I was too far
away to stop that mid draw I stayed out of range. Then a small Mazda pulled up
with five or six cops armed with M16s who took care of the matter! The Lubidero
had just snatched a woman's purse while our jeepney was stopped in traffic. I
bailed out to help but some kid passing by did a flying drop kick that took the
thief of the BMX bike he was rapidly peddling away! It was quite a scene! By
all means send me info on the belt technique. Cheers Perry

Wow Perry that sounds like quite an adventure (And a good reason to move to Oz :)

The belt thing was very informal... I was having some trouble with kids at school as I recall.
Basically you wrap the belt around your palm two or three times and pull it tight leaving about a foot of the buckle end of the belt hanging. Close fingers and thumb around the belt in your palm and use what is basically a downward figure 8. The target is any hard spot on the head. My dad said that his dad taught him this when he was a kid for the same reason and that when he used this on bullies they never bothered him again :-)

Did you ever put up a new blog btw?

Gary

Gary, I have a new blog but not martial arts related.
www.tunglewood.blogspot.com

My Dad taught me the belt trick too. He used an Army 38 Pattern Web Belt which
has brass buckles. I recall one night during my first year in the Army (1978)
when five or six came for me with the pillow slips filled with boots and the
soap in the socks. I turned over my bed and got behind it in the corner of the
barrack room and lashed out with the web belt wrapped around my fist. Scored a
couple of hits in the dark and they retired. The next morning on parade I could
identify two of my assailants by the nasty cuts to their cheeks and foreheads
from the buckles. Mind you, nobody came after me ever again at that unit. It was
the Army Apprentice School and the culture was the senior year bullied the
junior year. Very brutal and we had fatalities over the years but only a suicide
when I was there. I was a 'mouthy sprog' for standing up to them and so ear
marked for treatment. Cheers Perry
