Before I officially release this what changes should I make?
I set this up so I just have to change a few lines per power punching and
kicking tip. I decided to place them near the bottom as my goal obviously is to
sell more books and get the family fed.
I still need to add more punching and kicking power tips. Right now I have just
enough for once a week for once month (as I write this)
Here's the top of the page with the description and link

Gary, I have a new blog but not martial arts related.
www.tunglewood.blogspot.com
My Dad taught me the belt trick too. He used an Army 38 Pattern Web Belt which
has brass buckles. I recall one night during my first year in the Army (1978)
when five or six came for me with the pillow slips filled with boots and the
soap in the socks. I turned over my bed and got behind it in the corner of the
barrack room and lashed out with the web belt wrapped around my fist. Scored a
couple of hits in the dark and they retired. The next morning on parade I could
identify two of my assailants by the nasty cuts to their cheeks and foreheads
from the buckles. Mind you, nobody came after me ever again at that unit. It was
the Army Apprentice School and the culture was the senior year bullied the
junior year. Very brutal and we had fatalities over the years but only a suicide
when I was there. I was a 'mouthy sprog' for standing up to them and so ear
marked for treatment. Cheers Perry

Wow Perry that sounds like quite an adventure (And a good reason to move to Oz :)
The belt thing was very informal... I was having some trouble with kids at school as I recall.
Basically you wrap the belt around your palm two or three times and pull it tight leaving about a foot of the buckle end of the belt hanging. Close fingers and thumb around the belt in your palm and use what is basically a downward figure 8. The target is any hard spot on the head. My dad said that his dad taught him this when he was a kid for the same reason and that when he used this on bullies they never bothered him again :-)
Did you ever put up a new blog btw?

Gary, I nearly fought a man in Manila who whipped off his belt... a Lubidero or Lubid (Belt) fighter. I thought he was going for a knife and as I was too far away to stop that mid draw I stayed out of range. Then a small Mazda pulled up with five or six cops armed with M16s who took care of the matter! The Lubidero had just snatched a woman's purse while our jeepney was stopped in traffic. I bailed out to help but some kid passing by did a flying drop kick that took the thief of the BMX bike he was rapidly peddling away! It was quite a scene! By all means send me info on the belt technique. Cheers Perry

there are so few people with the balls to actually try

I'll be sorry to see this list go, but you may be right. I havn't had much time to read any of this in the last year (Been working 70-90 hr work weeks) let alone do any stick work :-(

Given the last post was in July and nothing since then, perhaps that is the right decision I have started and ended groups when they pass their use by date. It was a good idea, achieved what you wanted it to and now time to move on. Of coruse if anyone wants to take you up on your offer and revitalise it, go for it. Thank you, all, for supporting this group. I created it to give the
independant groups a place to talk/vent/teach...I believe that that
time is now past as so many SPECIFIC sites exist, this one no longer
has to. SO I am closing it...I have done what I set out to do...If any
of you would like to take the reigns, so be it...
I have achieved what I wanted...open style discussion...
Let me know, otherwise I will close by the end of the week.
Truly thanks to all, but it appears my job is done.
Keep swinging!

Gents,
I'm in the process of teaching myself on new site-builder (joomla)
and will be trying to get that launched for several projects.
In other news: It Has become readily apparent that my students
seem to have a "rock-n-roll" 'tude.
To that end I have introduces a "modified single stick" block
to classes. My son HATES it... far too fast and gives a distinct
edge to his lighter, faster opponents...but to his credit, he recognizes
his technical flaw and is working hard.
Laura ( my wife) recently asked to start training again...while
she is not the firebrand she once was... it took all of 10 minutes of
warm-up for her to start scoring...I'm so proud!
The new fencing sticks are in and finished (obviously) while we
maintain the "cane form" they are only about 20mm (.75 in). We do NOT
go padded up for these matches except for masks, gloves and elbows.
They have discovered the VAST differences of the Wrist, Elbow, and
Shoulder applications of the Moulinet, and all of them bear the
stripes to prove it.
Of course the thrust becomes less prevalent, but it IS still
there...stop thrust still works beautifully..
All the best,
Dirk
LOL Dirk... well I guess I could be called a lot worse... thanks for being
gentle...
And Chris, I believe Dirk has given me orders to get those techniques out of
you... so be ready tomorrow.... ;-)
Actually, I told him if he wants to share techniques, then he doesn't have to
pay for any classes at Cead Bua, so I'm hoping that'll be enough. I mean the
stick classes don't cost, but he really wants the Plum Blossom system too, so
going for the trade off.
I'll let you know Dirk.

Glen,
A) we did not need *HIM* to tell us that!
B) If he's got true Gatka techniques and he's holding back...
BEAT it out of him...
I knew a couple of Sikh's when I served...oddly from *my* perspective
as a YOUNG American, some of the nicest and MOST DANGEROUS guys
I ever knew...same can be said for a friend from Basic named Penido
Liberado...could have killed me in 1 minute if he's wanted too...
but instead showed me a few things...probably saved my life...
It's the quiet ones you have to watch...which of course leaves me out...
I'm a harmless old cripple...

Way to make me sound psychotic, Christopher. *lol*
Actually Dirk, Chris won't say it but he is pretty talented and obviously well
trained... moves very well for a guy his size and has great natural stick
instincts, very talented... we're trying to convince him to share some of those
Sikh sword techniques he's been taught... :)

Yeah, i've looked at the msp stuff on the utube, love da sounds man, whack whack whack! thanks for the info, and actually i'm training with glen now. he was recommended by a couple of Angel biker buddies of mine about a year ago, and i finally dropped in on a class in oakville about a month ago, and me being the arrogant ass that i am, i wanted to test it before commiting to the system, so I told glen i wanted to test it, he says sure, and motions for me to follow him outside, so i liked him immediately, then i asked how we decide points and stuff and the dude just shakes his head and says, the guy out cold on the sidewalk lost.
dirk, i freakin loved it man, blood pumping, adrenalin pumping, it was sweet ass sweet but i do have a day job and needs to be able to work with my hands, so i wanted to stick with sparring, anyway, i told him i just wanted to spar a bit, so one of his guys, rich, awesome guy, took me up on the match and after about 10 minutes of intense aggressive techniques that bruised the living crap out of me, i said this irish bata thing is worth my time. i like the timing, so different from what i had learned, the breaking of the distance was odd, i figured with a long stick it's easier to keep them away, or get them before they get close, but an odd timing to fight against. i'm very intrigued about the msp system as well, i love the stick length, something i'm used to, and i like the footwork, also something i'm used to. i guess i'll try to haul my butt out there in the future, where out west BC? i love any and all approaches to sticks man,
any and all, the more they vary the more i drool.
so tell me more about this list, what do we do here?

Chris,
well, damn. That sounds like a hell of a resume.
I don't know your particular idiom...we've got some EXCELLENT
resources up north...In ontario there is Glen Doyle, about the
only guy with traceable Generational system, and out west there
is Mi Amigo JP Sullivan, of the infamous MSP...either one a FONT
of info and technique...
Both RADICALLY different in approach....
Me? I'm old and crippled and harmless...I use a cane these days.
What I DO do, is continue to find all the things the best systems
have IN COMMON and find the reasons they are held as truth across
the systems and across the world..
Welcome!
As for the stick, no worries! I actually am a canesmith, and this has
been a torture test for my process...I call it a pass, all things
considered.
