Re: [non-traditional_stickfighting] new member

Yeah, i've looked at the msp stuff on the utube, love da sounds man, whack whack whack! thanks for the info, and actually i'm training with glen now. he was recommended by a couple of Angel biker buddies of mine about a year ago, and i finally dropped in on a class in oakville about a month ago, and me being the arrogant ass that i am, i wanted to test it before commiting to the system, so I told glen i wanted to test it, he says sure, and motions for me to follow him outside, so i liked him immediately, then i asked how we decide points and stuff and the dude just shakes his head and says, the guy out cold on the sidewalk lost.
dirk, i freakin loved it man, blood pumping, adrenalin pumping, it was sweet ass sweet but i do have a day job and needs to be able to work with my hands, so i wanted to stick with sparring, anyway, i told him i just wanted to spar a bit, so one of his guys, rich, awesome guy, took me up on the match and after about 10 minutes of intense aggressive techniques that bruised the living crap out of me, i said this irish bata thing is worth my time. i like the timing, so different from what i had learned, the breaking of the distance was odd, i figured with a long stick it's easier to keep them away, or get them before they get close, but an odd timing to fight against. i'm very intrigued about the msp system as well, i love the stick length, something i'm used to, and i like the footwork, also something i'm used to. i guess i'll try to haul my butt out there in the future, where out west BC? i love any and all approaches to sticks man, any and all, the more they vary the more i drool.

so tell me more about this list, what do we do here?

Chris,
well, damn. That sounds like a hell of a resume.

I don't know your particular idiom...we've got some EXCELLENT
resources up north...In ontario there is Glen Doyle, about the
only guy with traceable Generational system, and out west there
is Mi Amigo JP Sullivan, of the infamous MSP...either one a FONT
of info and technique...

Both RADICALLY different in approach....

Me? I'm old and crippled and harmless...I use a cane these days.

What I DO do, is continue to find all the things the best systems
have IN COMMON and find the reasons they are held as truth across
the systems and across the world..

Welcome!

As for the stick, no worries! I actually am a canesmith, and this has
been a torture test for my process...I call it a pass, all things
considered.
