There will be a roda tomorrow (Sunday) at 2pm at Pocket Park
at Tulane. If you are coming from Freret St, turn down McAllister (you can
only turn one way), and its on the left side.
You’re invited to join us this afternoon at 4pm at my
house to practice capoeira music, instruments and lyrics. Please bring
your instrument(s) if you have one. To make it a more productive session,
bring any songs you want to practice singing and think of what berimbau rhythms
and instruments you want to improve or learn. Lunch/dinner will be
provided. Please bring your own beverage(s) of choice.
The address is 1922
General Taylor Street between Dryades and Daneel
in Uptown, New Orleans, LA70115.
General Taylor, a one-way street, is between and parallel to Napoleon and Louisiana Ave.
Dryades and Daneel are between and parallel to S. Claiborne and St. Charles Ave.
It’s a yellow house on the left with plants on the front
porch.
There’s a Brazilian Party this Saturday night starting
at 10am at Southport Hall. Southport Hall is a large venue with a nice patio
and big dance floor. Come practice your samba and forro (and whatever drunken
dance Urso does at the parties to pick up the ladies). The parties are a lot
of fun. Prepare to stay late. There is a cover fee (I think $5 or $10 but it’s
worth it).
Southport Hall is located at 200 Monticello Avenue where Dakin meets River Road. The
number to Southport Hall if you need directions is 504-835-2903.
Also, mark your calendars for Saturday September 8th.
Casa Samba is hosting another Brazilian Party at Howlin’ Wolf in the CBD.
More details to follow.
We’re having a roda tomorrow at 3pm in the pavilion

supposed to be a little cooler tomorrow with some breeze, plus we should be in
the shade. If you don’t know where its at, give me a call at

I believe most of us who are still actively training capoeira are training with Professor Cocada on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday from 8-9:30pm. Class and group information can be found at www.capoeiraneworleans.com . We'd love to see you in class or at a roda. We sometimes have rodas on the weekends (various locations, usually along the River Walk in the French Quarter). If you're ever interested in practicing music, acorbatics or anything outside of class, you can give me a call (770-356-0105) and we can get a small group together to practice in the park.

You are invited to join us for an evening
of celebration of our friendships, old and new, with Caipirinhas, burgers, and
Churrasco, and the best part is that you get to bring us some liquor to stock
our new bar! Whatever is left at the end of the night will go towards the next
party! (and for us to drink a little bit until then and yes, there will be a
next party).
We will be providing some hamburgers and picanha
for the barbeque, and some cachaca for the caipirinha, but you are welcome to
bring any food items, meats, and beverages, etc. And yes, you are encouraged
to bring a bottle for the house! (we won’t be enforcing this very
strictly)
The barbeque will start around 7pm this
Saturday, May 12, and we will continue the celebration until we can’t
celebrate no more.
There will be a roda this Saturday at 330pm, in front of the
new student center at Tulane. Take Freret St to McAllister, and once you
turn down McAllister, you will see a large building with lots of glass on your
left. There is an area in there called Pocket Park, and that’s
where the roda will be. http://www2.tulane.edu/about_campus.cfm
its at #29 on the map.
There should be parking in the area as well. Capoeira Regional
Club practice at Tulane will take place as usual at 5pm at the ReilyCenter,
so come check it out after the roda. Call me if you have any questions.

A reminder that there is a batizado in Houston, and we are leaving tomorrow (Friday)
around 2pm. Check out http://www.grupocapoeirabrasil.com/.
I think there is room for one more in my car if anyone is interested in going. We’ll
come back Sunday afternoon/evening. There are several rodas through out
the weekend, and the main event, the batizado, is Saturday afternoon. Admission
for spectators is $10, and the charges for participants are listed on the
website.
I’m very happy to announce that Professor Cocada and
his sometimes lovely wife Rosa have arrived in New Orleans. The capoeira community
here is growing, and it’s a very exciting time to be a part of it. Cocada
is an awesome capoeirista and a great teacher. His bio is on http://maculele.com/. He will start teaching
classes soon, and I will keep you all informed about time, location, etc. If
anyone knows of a suitable space that is available, please let me know.
Professor Carlao’s class is continuing at the Fine
Arts Center on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 630-8pm.
Hey yall, haven’t seen some of you in a while, but I hope
the capoeira bug will get you and you’ll start coming out to classes! A
couple of things.
There is a roda this Saturday
by “the bubble” at TulaneUniversity. Come
down Freret, turn onto McAllister ( you can only go one way), and before
you get to the next street on the right is the bubble. This is hosted by
the Angola
group at Tulane with Curtis Pierre and crew. Starts at 3pm according to
the latest report, and they also got some guests coming down from Jackson, MS.
Should be a great time regardless of whether you’ve training Angola or
regional or miscellaneous. Aaron is hosting a post roda party at his
house.
The group formerly known as
Capoeira Brasil in Houston
is having a Batizado two weekends from now (thurs 11/2 – sat 11/4),
and the line up is CRAZY!!! Check out their website at http://www.grupocapoeirabrasil.com/
(click on the link that says schedule, pricing, register or something) and
I think they prefer that we register before we head out there. For
participating Friday and Saturday, its $75 but they’ll hook you up
with a place to stay. Saturday only is $40, which is totally worth it,
considering all the great mestres, professors, and instructors that are
going to be there, and you get a t-shirt too! I’m planning on going
with Cocada and Rosa (they are in Atlanta
now but moving to New Orleans
next weekend. Yaaay!) on Friday afternoon and staying until probably
Sunday morning. They’ve got workshops in the early evening on
Friday which I’m not sure we’ll make, and roda from 8-9pm,
then on Saturday, its roda, batizado, roda, food, then party. Sounds like
a great day. For those of you who haven’t been to a capoeira
batizado, this is where its at. Depending on the group, a lot of teachers
come from all over the world in celebration of new students getting
initiated into the world of capoeira and older students advancing in their
ranking. But more than that its a celebration of capoeira and meeting
people and having a good time. You will see some baaaaad ass capoeiristas
from all over the country, including my first teacher, Mestre Fran. This
one will be a good one.
Houston is only like 5 hrs away depending
on how you drive, this is an excellent opportunity, people! If anyone is
interested, call or email Samurai to discuss details.
Hey Samu, it isn't Nega, that is Intstrutor Mico, that was my mess up. The first game is Pequines and CM Ze Confome. The game after Cocadas is Instrutor Tiba and Professor Esquillo from Mestre Jelon.

Hi there,
I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have spent the
last 10 years of my life as a refugee registered with the UNHCR in Beirut. The
last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for peace and human rights (especially
refugees and asylum seekers) on the Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks
publisher. I have launched many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees
in Lebanon and hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I
helped make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I used
the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more about that in my
free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and could be download from my
sites.
This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating actions of
the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and human-buttons to collect
money. This is an abuse of the dignity and humanity of the refugees and must
stop immediately and a clear public apology present by The United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees. My friends, I am talking about the pictures you can
see here:

Where you can read the rest of this message as web page.
Also you can read my new campaign 'Urgent, we need smile' here:

For more info about UNHCR and life of refugees you can read my free ebooks. I
invite you as fellow humans and members of the world community to support my
campaign by reading my article on my site and see the human-buttons. The
campaign is to support and improve the UNHCR http://www.unhcr.ch especially
after the last scandals in the UN and UNHCR, just for example:
The refugees allege that UNHCR staff is selling most of the food items they are
supposed to be supplied.
"They aren't supplying sufficient food to us because they sell most of the food
items," they allege: http://allafrica.com/stories/200503140214.html

As many of you know, classes are now meeting at the covered Pavilion
closer to the Zoo entrance of RiverviewPark (The Fly).
After you cross the first set of railroad tracks, the rectangular pavilion will
be on your right. It’s on the Mississippi
River side of the park before you get to the soccer fields and playground.
We changed the location from the Labyrinth for a few reasons
(A) it’s covered in the event that it rains (B) there’s a light so
we can train later as the time changes (C) It doesn’t interfere with
persons who want to walk the Labyrinth meditation circle.
Thanks for you patience as we continue our search for an
indoor space for classes. We’ll bring repellent to the next class
for the mosquito issue.
