Hey yall, haven’t seen some of you in a while, but I hope
the capoeira bug will get you and you’ll start coming out to classes! A
couple of things.
- There is a roda this Saturday
by “the bubble” at
. Come down Freret, turn onto McAllister ( you can only go one way), and before you get to the next street on the right is the bubble. This is hosted by theTulane University group at Tulane with Curtis Pierre and crew. Starts at 3pm according to the latest report, and they also got some guests coming down fromAngola . Should be a great time regardless of whether you’ve trainingJackson ,MS or regional or miscellaneous. Aaron is hosting a post roda party at his house.Angola - The group formerly known as
Capoeira Brasil in
is having a Batizado two weekends from now (thurs 11/2 – sat 11/4), and the line up is CRAZY!!! Check out their website at http://www.grupocapoeirabrasil.com/ (click on the link that says schedule, pricing, register or something) and I think they prefer that we register before we head out there. For participating Friday and Saturday, its $75 but they’ll hook you up with a place to stay. Saturday only is $40, which is totally worth it, considering all the great mestres, professors, and instructors that are going to be there, and you get a t-shirt too! I’m planning on going with Cocada and Rosa (they are inHouston Atlanta now but moving to next weekend. Yaaay!) on Friday afternoon and staying until probably Sunday morning. They’ve got workshops in the early evening on Friday which I’m not sure we’ll make, and roda from 8-9pm, then on Saturday, its roda, batizado, roda, food, then party. Sounds like a great day. For those of you who haven’t been to a capoeira batizado, this is where its at. Depending on the group, a lot of teachers come from all over the world in celebration of new students getting initiated into the world of capoeira and older students advancing in their ranking. But more than that its a celebration of capoeira and meeting people and having a good time. You will see some baaaaad ass capoeiristas from all over the country, including my first teacher, Mestre Fran. This one will be a good one.New Orleans
Hope to see everyone on Saturday!
