RE: [nolacapoeira] senzala in nola

Miragem, Thanks for joining the group. We look forward to meeting you soon (either at Curtis’s class or elsewhere).  I may have trained with the capoeirista who’s coming to NO when I was in Rio a few weeks ago.  We’ll see.

Samurai and I have been hoping for a regional teacher to come down here. We’ve been trying to convince our mestres (Mestre Fran with Grupo Maculele in Atlanta and Contra-Mestre Foca with Raizes do Brasil in Brooklyn) to send a teacher to New Orleans but have been unsuccessful thus far.

There is a lot of under-utilized space in New Orleans right now. There are several gyms where s/he could rent out space. There’s a gym/dance studio on Tchopitoulous (sp?) that we were looking at.  We could even train in Audubon Park until we find a place to train and save enough money to rent a space.  Several groups in NY had classes in the park in the summer time. Does Loyola have a gym?

Risada

Hi. I'm happy to learn there is a capoeira community forming in NOLA. The
Senzala school in NJ is currently trying to set up a school in New Orleans. They
have someone lined up from Rio w his green card and everything ready to come
down. Now they just need a space. I don't really know anything about possible
places that would be interested in hosting a capoeira regional class--I was
thinking at a University it would be easiest, but since Tulane already has a
capoeira school, that may not work. If you guys know of any place that might be
a possibility for a start up capoeira school, let me know.

thanks,

miragem
