Greetings ultimate players,
It's been a great summer season, capped off by a spirited game of
pickup, and festive beer drinking this past Thursday, September 4.
Rest assured, disc will continue through the fall at the JFK fields
at 5:30 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays, at 4:30 PM on Sundays.
With the days getting shorter and shorter it's important to show up
as close to the start time as possible so that we can get plenty of
playing time in. So stop thinking you can show up at 6 PM because
that invariably pushes the first pull time close to 6:30 PM, which
leaves one fleeting hour for a game.
New topic: In the interest of full disclosure, I want to provide a
brief accounting of the finances to which most of you contributed. As
a reminder, everybody who plays pickup disc throughout the year
contributes $10 toward the field fees which the Department of
Recreation requires.
I collected a total of $525 at the beginning of the summer. $210 went
to the Northampton Department of Recreation, $100 went towards chips
and beer for our party last week, leaving a balance of $215 which I
will apply towards another party or next year's field fees when they
come due in the spring.
Feel free to call me at 413-268-0388 with questions.
Peace,
Sheldon
Hi Gang,
It seems a lot of people thought I was kidding when I announced that
tomorrows pick-up party is at Sheldon Field.
No, I didn't name the field after myself. It's a real field on Rt9,
next to the fair grounds,(headed out of NoHo, on the right about 1/4
mile before the Coolidge bridge.) A baseball diamond occupies much of
the visible space.
From the surplus money we collect for field fees, I'll provide all the
beer you can drink and chips you can eat.
See you at 6 pm tomorrow at Sheldon Field for Ultimate with beer breaks.
Sheldon the Condor.
Hey guys, Are these two teams affiliated? How does one go about playing with them? I get out of work at 530 in enfield so ill probably be at the pickups starting next week a little late.

Hi Aaron et all,
The tourney team -- Jiggle the Handle -- has changed its practice nights to Weds/Fri, so pickup is back in Northampton: Tues, Thurs and Sunday at 5:30, JFK middle school.
Please spread the word with anyone you know who plays, and has been frustrated lately by lack of turnout.

Hi Gang,
On the matter of beer and disc. We collected a couple hundred dollar
surplus from the JFK fields fee. Thus we shall squander it on beer
like any self respecting Ultimate player interested in celebrating a
great season of disc.
So, for pick-up this week on Thursday, the 4th, be at Sheldon Field
(No-Ho on Rt. 9 headed out of town, by fair grounds), for mad disc
and beer. The JFK fields are now swamped with school kids and
teachers who don't look kindly on public displays of disc-ebration
hence the field change. What we don't spend on Beer and chips, we'll
apply towards next year's field fees. Spread the word.
See you at practice and pick-up games, especially Thursday at Sheldon
Field. You Jigglers who live near the field, talk amongst
yourselves, and feel free to bring the goods for grilling. I'll
reimburse you for food from the till.
To completions,

Subject: Charity Hat Tournament this Sunday in Philly!
Hello all up in Westchester!
Just wanted to give you and your players a heads-up about a sweet tournament down here in Philly this weekend! I am the host, so if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me (314-974-0458)!
NicaClinic Hat Tournament! -Sunday, August 31st, 11:00am -Edgely (4001 Edgely Drive, Philadelphia, PA 19131) -We will provide water and snacks (most likely pretzels or bagels) -$10 to play, all proceeds* go to the Roberto Clemente Clinic in Limon, Nicaraga through FIMRC:
Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children has set up seven clinics in remote areas of India, Uganda, Peru, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Haiti that do not otherwise have adequate access to healthcare. We operate by creating trips for healthcare professional students (pre-meds. med students, nursing, public health, etc.) to volunteer at these clinics and gain a hands-on, educational experience.
FIMRC is currently setting up a project in Nicaragua (my job for the year) to establish a free pediatric clinic for the community of Limon. Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America, with almost half the population living in poverty and almost one fifth in extreme poverty. Only 6.3% of the population is insured, making it even more difficult for the poor and ethnic minorities to afford adequate health care.
The Roberto Clemente Santa Ana Health Clinic is an accredited 1,140 square-foot primary care and triage facility is staffed by a full-time doctor and nurse that supplies free and low-cost medical care to the isolated villages of Limon, Rancho Santana and 41 surrounding communities in southwest Nicaragua. The clinic strives to educate the community on better health, as well as prevent diseases, cure viruses, and treat injuries and the chronic health problems endemic to the region, where running water and flushing toilets are still quite rare.
For more information about the organization, you can check out their website at www.fimrc.org and the clinic's website at www.nicaclinic.org.
* We will not be putting a single cent of the money donated into the operating costs of the organization, ALL proceeds collected will be spent on supplies and maintenance for the clinic. And I'll be there to make sure of it!

Summer is slowly but surely coming to an end. People are beginning to leave the area to go back to school and what not. We should try to do the party/bbq, that we had planned to throw with the excess field collection money, soon. We could do it on a weekend or maybe a weekday after pickup. This weekend is a holiday, so I don't know if it is a good choice, but we should definitely plan to do it soon.
What do people think?
Sheldor, how much loot do we have left over to party with?

For anyone who is interested the Boston Area Ultimate frisbee group
is running a "good cause" charity tournament this Saturday (July
19th), in West Roxbury (ie Boston).
I've played in it a good 6 or 7 years now and it is a pretty fun hat
tournament, it tends to be very laid back because it is for charity,
though it does cost a bit more that most other tournaments because
they are trying to raise money.
Anyway I'm planning to attend, if you have any interest in pledging
to the charity, this year they are doing Horizons for Homeless
Children. I think the tournament organizers do a really good job at
selecting small local Massachusetts charities that they research
heavily to make sure the money is going to a good cause. I've been
lame about raising money for the tourney in the past but trying to be
a on top of it this year, anyway feel free to ask me about it tonight
or Thursday.

Hi Team,
I figured it was time for an accounting of fees collected and paid for
use of the JFK fields. Here goes:
Starting balance left over from 2007 season $110
Fees paid to Rec Dpt. for 2008 season $210
Carry forward balance (surplus/deficit) ($100)
Player fees collected for 2008 season $180
Remaining balance $80
Although we have a surplus, many people still owe their $10 for the
season. C'mon people if you play you gotta pay. It's only fair.
Sheldor the Condor
Well, whenever you're in town you're of course very welcome to come play pickup with us on Tuesday adn Thursday at 5:30 and on Sundays at 4:30. Also, the tourney on the 14th is a hat tourney, so we don't really care at all who comes- it's unlikely we'll end up on the same team.

Hello everyone! Sorry for the mass emailing, but there is a FREE disc golf clinic for women - Northampton, MA on June 1st, 2008 at 11am, and you are somebody who I thought might be interested, or know ladies who
might be interested. Please pass the word around to others who might be interested.
This event is being organized by Leslie Charles, a former Lady Godiva player and Hampshire College coach. She's recently started playing
disc golf seriously and wants to get more women playing. She's awesome!
Registration is limited to about 36 people, and the first 25 get a free disc. I think about 12 people are already registered. Discs will
be provided for everyone to use. Email Leslie to register. leslie@...
Any questions, let me know! See the link above for more details.

Two quick announcements for posteritiy's sake. And by posterity, we
mean Sheldon's sanity.
1. Sheldon, amongst others, has worked hard for many years to ensure
that NoHo Ultimate exists, has a field to play on, and has an Internet
presence by which people can find us and join us. He also selflessly
fronts money for this group, and for these things we all owe him our
gratitude and about ten dollars. Ten bucks covers everything we need,
from field access to Internet fees, and if there's any extra cash at
the end, the big guy hides it in a sock and throws us a party. If
you're extra nice to him, he'll wash the sock.
2. As long as we're playing at JFK, which is for the foreseeable
future, we have to be respectful to the rules. These rules are
simple: We are allowed to play there by the Rec department because we
pay for it- but we also are the bottom of the totem pole becasue we are
a pick-up group. What this means is that if there's a baseball game,
we cram in a corner, and don't interfere. Period. We do not argue
with the coaches about this, because they absolutely have the right of
way. If we upset this delicate balance and the coaches complain to the
Rec department, we run the risk of losing the field space. Bad. So be
nice, understand that kids are the future and all that, and make the
best of it.
Sheldon has done his legwork and made his announcements and now it's up
to us to pay him the cash we owe (it's only $10 for a full year of
Ultimate... come on!) and to abide by the rules so we can all have
Ultimate, which we love.
Other than that, SO good! The turnout has been great- we're
consistently over twenty-eight people and have been running two games
simultaneously- and the weather is amazing, so keep coming out! One
love, NoHo!
Whoooooo!
