Well It would be easy for you to get to chimney rock i bet an hour at the
most.  Two ways,  Its really like 2 min off of route 22 west and if traffic
is good you might make it in 45 min or if you take the path to newark and
then hop on NJT to Bridgwater station it would be a 20 min bike ride to the
first entrance to the moutian

Ryan,

Was just checking in on the board and saw your post.  Congrats on a
good finish.  I love that course also, but not as much as Ringwood.

As for riding this year, it has been in hibernation.  We are too busy
for me to get any riding in this year.  Heck, I have not even been
able to hit the gym in over a month either.  But, this past monday I
was able to start back at the gym doing some cardio to get the lungs
working.  I am hoping to be on the bike a more now.  Hopefully we can
hook up in a few weeks.

yeah, i've been out riding... everything from mercer
to hartshorne...  i actually got seriously injured at
mercer approx 2 weeks ago... some storms blew through
on friday, saturday, and i went out riding on
monday... a fallen top of a tree was partially in the
trail, but a tunnel was formed in the leaves around
it... as i entered around the tree, a large limb was
broken off and aiming directly into riders face!  i
was that rider!  luckily i was slightly banked for the
turn, and the limb struck my helmet and crushed the
front of it, then it scraped down the front of my
face, avoiding my right eye, what a miracle!  i ended
up with neck and face injuries, but my helmet
prevented me from getting impaled by the limb!

i'm now up riding in BC, on the shore and in
abbotsford, and i'm off to whistler this weekend, so
i'm having a serious time riding up here!  such an
amazing place!!!

well, gotta go, not sure how the weather is right now,
it's been in the high 60's to low 70's here, so
perfect riding temps!!!

.Way back in the day Interbike had an on dirt demo for bike dealers at Mt.
Creek.  I demo'ed a bunch of mt bikes on the XC trails on top of the mt.  They
were pretty fun as I remember, but maybe it was just fun to ride someone else's
bikes in the mud and beat the crap out of them.  I think we destroyed at least 5
bikes in out group that day.  I think they were mostly old ATV trails.  I am
sure there is still something there worth riding but maybe not if you have to
drive a long way to get there.  With the price of gas we have been riding the
road bike a lot more and working to improve local trails.

My friend Tim rides Diablo every weekend and he loves it.  I have to say that
his XC fitness suffers but his bike handling has improved immensely.

but if you're into DH and freeride, it's excellent... i know they had
the DH Domination yesterday, and next weekend is the U.S. Open for DH,
so lot's of people/riders there...  anyway, if anyone ever heads up,
drop a post and we can put in a few runs together...

Egg beaters all the way.  Who needs a platform?  I ride the egg
beater C's and they are awesome, inexpensive and they release pretty
easily.  The only drawbacks are as mentioned earlier, they do catch
on some shoes and if your cadence isn't just right and you hit a
rock/root it'll release your foot.  Even that's not bad to deal with
when you know it's going to happen.  Buy em.  Ride em.

Hey leo,

Setup isn't super hard but compatibility with shoes can be somewhat tricky. 
Crank brothers pedals work best when the sole doesn't catch on the pedal.  Make
sure that the cleat is just over or slightly back from the ball of your foot. 
You might goof around on an indoor trainer a bit before you go outside. These
and frogs are the easiest releasing pedal going. I prefer the more solid feel of
the Shimano spds but if you want easy release these are the way to go.

I doubt you would go with a mallet if you had a chance to ride a candy.  The big
platform on the mallet hits rocks and roots.  Think about ground clearance.

-Never buy any bike stuff online.  Support you local shop!  If you don't they
will not be there in the future.  Think about what Home Depot has done to all
the small Hardware shops in the USA.  They are all gone.   Can you imagine if
all the shops go under and suddenly your only choice is to buy online??
At some point getting a deal feels great but building a relationship with your
LBS can really help out when you need them later on.  If you are a good repeat
customer and you need a quick service or advice it will pay off.  Find a shop
where everyone actually rides bikes.  Give them your money!


-Your local shop can most likely be competitive if you ask.

-Wouldn't you rather support a local business anyway??

Amy,
I should have guessed that Jason and Halter's had a hand in it.  They did a fine
job.  I was there last Sunday and again yesterday. I followed the trails to the
canal in Millstone and back. The soil is dry with just a few muddy crossings in
low lying areas which adds to the fun. And speaking of fun crossings, some of
the "bridges" are pretty dicey.  I'm two blocks away from the soccer fields at
Rt 27, so it couldn't be more convenient.  Now if we could just bring in a
couple of hills...

When are you looking to go Saturday?  I have some stuff to do
Saturday but I'm not sure if it's in the evening or afternoon.  I'd

HI Carlos,

You owe the fantastic job of trail maintenance at 6MR to Jason and the crew
at Halter's Cycles.  I was in his shop a few weeks ago and his bike had the
tell-tale red mud of 6MR all over it and he told about the work he'd been
doing over there on the trails, all told about 200+ hours over the
winter/early spring.  If you ever get a chance, drop into his shop and let
him know, he loves to talk with local riders.

I might head over to 6MR one night this week to check it out.  Its a perfect

and is based on e-mail, its easy for spammers to send messages out to e-mail
addresses, listservs, & public message boards.  I have pretty good spam
protection on my e-mail, and still get the occasional junk mail sent
through.  Spammers are creative about getting around spam blockers.
