Well I rode Chimney Rock today with Amy. It was the first ride of the
New Year and the first ride on the new bike. It was a great day out
there. It was a bit muddy, but alot of fun. They have done alot of
great trail maintenance up there also.
Ryan,
Was just checking in on the board and saw your post. Congrats on a
good finish. I love that course also, but not as much as Ringwood.
As for riding this year, it has been in hibernation. We are too busy
for me to get any riding in this year. Heck, I have not even been
able to hit the gym in over a month either. But, this past monday I
was able to start back at the gym doing some cardio to get the lungs
working. I am hoping to be on the bike a more now. Hopefully we can
hook up in a few weeks.

Hey Congrats..
I have no idea who you are but I might need a doctor soon for all the poison ivy
I have from mt biking.
The warm wet winter and spring has done wonders for the plant life.

I am now to be referred to as Dr. Jenkins haha ;) Took me about a month to get
fully accredited, but after ringing these ppl 1-801-697-0461 they got me setup
at
an international uni and had me my BA in no time.

yeah, i've been out riding... everything from mercer
to hartshorne... i actually got seriously injured at
mercer approx 2 weeks ago... some storms blew through
on friday, saturday, and i went out riding on
monday... a fallen top of a tree was partially in the
trail, but a tunnel was formed in the leaves around
it... as i entered around the tree, a large limb was
broken off and aiming directly into riders face! i
was that rider! luckily i was slightly banked for the
turn, and the limb struck my helmet and crushed the
front of it, then it scraped down the front of my
face, avoiding my right eye, what a miracle! i ended
up with neck and face injuries, but my helmet
prevented me from getting impaled by the limb!
i'm now up riding in BC, on the shore and in
abbotsford, and i'm off to whistler this weekend, so
i'm having a serious time riding up here! such an
amazing place!!!
well, gotta go, not sure how the weather is right now,
it's been in the high 60's to low 70's here, so
perfect riding temps!!!
enjoy the riding!!

I'd drop in and see if anything is going on. Hope everyone is keeping

Hope all goes well. Cya.

I don't think they bother w/ the xc anymore. We cut that in For
98/99 and only used it 1 season after the reopening. I'm sure they,d
give you a single trip pass and then let you ride down but it's not
that great anyway. Just go to Wawayanda!! Check fattiretime for
rides..........
I'd be interested but more in their XC trails. I hear there are a
few. Can you verify this? Do you know what it costs to go ride the XC
stuff?

Egg beaters all the way. Who needs a platform? I ride the egg
beater C's and they are awesome, inexpensive and they release pretty
easily. The only drawbacks are as mentioned earlier, they do catch
on some shoes and if your cadence isn't just right and you hit a
rock/root it'll release your foot. Even that's not bad to deal with
when you know it's going to happen. Buy em. Ride em.

However, because they are somewhat loose, my shoes tend to move
around and wear down the pedal platform. Once worn down, since
there's no adjustment, the pedal is too loose and needs replacing.
That's happened with a couple of sets and with different shoes, but
I've never heard of it happening to anyone else. I think I'll look
into Candy SL next. I have read that the Mallet C are large and can
have ground clearance issues on turns. I can't comment much on the
setup part, since Times have no adjustment, I just screwed them on.
The left pedal is left-hand thread, but you probably knew that.

Was anybody from here at the race yesterday? I was there in sport(19-
29) and had a blast. I think I finished 5th or 6th out of about 25.
So I did a lot better than expected(My goal was to not finish last).
The course was crazy technical and a lot of fun. Where else can you
feel like you're riding a jackhammer for 6.5 miles :-) I'm looking
forward to the one at Williams Lake in NY in 2 weeks.

Being on a tight budget, I've made many purchases online. Both from web

Amy,
I should have guessed that Jason and Halter's had a hand in it. They did a fine
job. I was there last Sunday and again yesterday. I followed the trails to the
canal in Millstone and back. The soil is dry with just a few muddy crossings in
low lying areas which adds to the fun. And speaking of fun crossings, some of
the "bridges" are pretty dicey. I'm two blocks away from the soccer fields at
Rt 27, so it couldn't be more convenient. Now if we could just bring in a
couple of hills...
Jason, I'd be happy to help with any future trail work. Post here if any is
scheduled.

last rode there. The terrain at 6-Mile is relatively flat and small in area, but
the trail network is greatly improved. I've been out of the saddle and out of
commission for quite some time, and I was very pleasantly surprised. What I
expected to be a 20 minute ride to test out my legs and bike, turned into a fun,
hour-long ride. Kudos and thanks to all responsible. I hope to be able to help

When are you looking to go Saturday? I have some stuff to do
Saturday but I'm not sure if it's in the evening or afternoon. I'd
love to get back to chimney rock and explore a little more.

HI Carlos,
You owe the fantastic job of trail maintenance at 6MR to Jason and the crew
at Halter's Cycles. I was in his shop a few weeks ago and his bike had the
tell-tale red mud of 6MR all over it and he told about the work he'd been
doing over there on the trails, all told about 200+ hours over the
winter/early spring. If you ever get a chance, drop into his shop and let
him know, he loves to talk with local riders.
I might head over to 6MR one night this week to check it out. Its a perfect
post-work riding spot, being its so close to my home and all.
I am thinking possibly CR or LM on Saturday, pending good weather. Any
takers?

I know, but we can at least delete the addresses so we don't have
repeat offenders.
I might be interested in meeting up for a ride this weekend. I'm
kinda under the weather at the moment but if I'm feeling better I'll
join you.

Hey Ryan,
This is frutstrating, I know. But since the forum is more or less public
and is based on e-mail, its easy for spammers to send messages out to e-mail
addresses, listservs, & public message boards. I have pretty good spam
protection on my e-mail, and still get the occasional junk mail sent
through. Spammers are creative about getting around spam blockers.
I think it is just something we'll have to learn to ignore. I don't know if
yahoo has a way to lock the board so you can only post if you're a
registered member of that group....
WRT riding, I am going to try to check out CR or Lewis Morris on Saturday
afternoon - any takers?

Outside of Newburgh NY. Go up rt 87(NYS Thruway) to exit 17 for 17k
and follow signs to stewart airport. Keep going past the entrace to
stewart airport and you'll see a dirt lot on your right with a small
sign for stewart buffer lands. Ride and enjoy.

Chris,
I rode CR last Thursday and it was in good shape. Saturday's rain and
that forecasted for this week will likely change that. You didn't
mention Hartshorne, that's the best bet and I'm sure much closer for you.

Ryan's right, it's the longest coolest BMX track in the world. It's
in the federal lands around Stewart airbase in the Newburg/Harriman
area kinda. I raced there twice and it was great. It's best to find a
local cause there's some restrictions due to the base and hunting
seasons.Someday maybe rtman will come ride sussex co w/

Where is this? NY State? Never heard of it. Give more details of location.

For those of you that are willing to drive a little north of Jersey,
the buffer lands around Stewart have some fun trails. They have
everything from beginning to advanced trails and they are nice hard
packed trails with very few rock gardens, or super technical sections.
It's an awesome time though. Pump up those tires to a high psi and let
her rip! There aren't too many elevation changes although we did hit
the biggest hills in the park - some weren't bikeable though. I even
found a nice spot to hit about a 5 foot drop. Nice subtle ledge that
progresses from a couple of inches to 5 at the max with a sweet(but
loose) downhill rideout. What a great park. Much different than the
area parks like Wawayanda, Ringwood, or Chimney. Definetly worth a day
to explore. I had no map so I just went riding till I got lost and
recognized something :-)
