ooking for Saturday, Sunday or Tuesday night rides. Familiar with most legal
riding areas in central and north Jersey, however tired of always riding alone.

ey, I bought a Raleigh M-80 last May, and I've
had a lot of fun with it. A very reliable bike.
24
speeds, V-brakes, Aluminum fram, Gripshift, and Rock Shox
Indy S fork. The salesman said that it would even make
a worthy race-bike. Only downside was the price of
about $550.

have a few bikes but I got some very good value
with a Univega that I bought for my daughter a year or
so ago. It doesn't have any cheezy parts and a great
chromoly frame. The prices are right too. There are a lot
of inexpensive front shocks available. I saw a
couple of last years models in Performance Bike catalog
at decent prices compared to what they were when
they were the "hot new item".

Anyway, not to
plug any particular bike shop (Uncle Yahoo wouldn't
like that hehe) I got some pretty good service and
prices at Bike Line (Rt 9 in old Bridge or Rt 18 in E
Brunswick..same owner).

Good luck, if you have any
questions, feel free to post them here or E-Mail me
(mtnbiker5@...)

i everyone, i'm just getting started with
mountain
biking and i'm looking for a decent ride for
a cheap price.
I'm not sure exactly what i
really need, i know i'd like
to have 21 speeds and a
front suspension. I'd be using the bike to
get to
work in the summer. The roads here are really
brutal
and i'd like to start doing some trails as well. What
kinda bike
could you recomend for a beginner like
myself? My budget isn't much right now
so i don't want
to spend more than about $400-500.

Any advice
would be supper
TIA,

Kev's

i all!

I just returned from a biking trip
out in Colorado and I'm really set to kick off this
season here in NJ!! I ride with a small group located in
the Morristown area. There is only one female in our
group and she feels like an extra Cliff Bar
sometimes.

QUESTION: are there any female riders here in that area? We
need to round out our group!

of the fire roads that leads onto south orange ave.
i've been lucky to avoid any problems, but i was

t wasn't that bad.
I was out at Clayton Park
in Emelaystown, NJ at 9AM this morning with a few
riders, we rode until 11:30AM. As long as you keep your
fingers, feet, head and face warm, it isn't too bad. I
wore wool socks inside and outside of my shoes, worked
excellent. The first few minutes are the worst, but you get
warmed up.
Clayton Park is a nice wooded area, alot
of roller coaster stuff, trails are always 6-7ft.
wide. Excellent fast pace stuff; about 20 miles from
West Windsor.

minutes of a drive from West Widsor with plenty of
technical stuff.
If you still ride these day we can
hook up one day.
email me

t is about 15 min southeast of Princeton and 20
min northeast of Trenton, in between route 1 and the
turnpike. Northern NJ is quite a hike for me, BUT I am
willing to travel up to an hour away if the stuff is
good!

recently relocated to West Windsor from
Middletown, CT. There is some great technical riding in
central CT - where is the good stuff in NJ? It seems like
West Windsor is quite flat - no rocky, rooty, hilly,
muddy stuff - flatlanders!

one's in Hillsdale are like a min. away from me. They are average. There are

ell, I just signed up for this club a few
minutes ago. For those of you who would like to know, I
live in Hillsdale, NJ. I am 14 and I own a Trek 6000.
The bike may sound like crap to you but I like it and
it works for me. I basically ride on the weekends
cause I play soccer on the weekdays. I'd like to get to
know some of you that are in my area.

t's the old "be considerate" thing. If you go
ripping down a descent past hikers they get scared and
pissed. Of all the times I've ridden multi-use trails,
including SoMo, I've encountered angry hikers only once,
and that was because we went flying by some hikers at
25 mph or so. You remember that Steve? That woman
yelled at us, but we were by them before we knew what
hit us. That occasion was a total accident but those
hikers don't know or care. Whenever I see horses or
hikers I slow way down and usually get off my bike for
horses. I've had some very nice people stop and talk when
they saw how considerate I was being. Courtesy pays
and the trails will stay open.

've been riding in SoMo for years. About three
years ago there was a big crack-down on riding due to
conflicts with hikers. In the past two years, I've had no
problems with the authorities. The only problems I did
have were a few snide comments from hikers and some
evidence of sabotage. My question, has anyone had any
problem at SoMo? And, what can we do to make riding legal
again?
