Opening Day for Staten Island Mountain bikin is finally here!
July 12th at 1pm. The SI parks commissioner and Senator Andrew Lanza
will officially open the trails in Wolfe's Pond Park.
After many years of back and forth and having to get the city wide
policy changed and watching Mountain biking open in Queens and in
Manhattan (yes.. Highbridge Park in Manhattan) and knowing we where
surrounded by great stuff in Jersey, Staten Island is
finally getting its do. WIth about 10k of trails now and a goal of
20K by the Spring. There are beginner, intermediate and difficult
level trails to ride. The parks department has also agreed to a dirt
jump park where the current one stands. (This will not be open on
the 12th.)
The day will start at 9am with pre-5k trail run festivites which will
be followed at 10am by one of the toughest 5k runs around in honor of
our Heroes from Ladder 5, Engine 24 and Batt 2 who have perished in
the line of duty. Race awards will be held at approx 12pm and will
be followed at 1pm by the official opening of the trails. There
will be b-b-que and bands along with childrens acitivtes all day.
We can sure use some help from some expierenced riders to guide rides
and give pointers to new comers that may come out. We can also use a
hand putting the fininishing touches on the trails this week in the
evening hours.
If anyone is available and interested in helping out call

Thank you and hope to see you on the 12th.
