Re: [NJ Mountain Biking] Pedals

Leo,
Being on a tight budget, I've made many purchases online. Both from web
merchants and through eBay. Not all purchases are what I expected. Often, it's
better to buy from a local shop. Particularly, if you have ANY doubt about
installation or compatibility. The key, of course, is to find a good shop with
a decent selection. The expertise and the advise they can provide is usually
worth the extra cost.
As for clipless pedals, I use Time ATAC and mostly like them. However, because
they are somewhat loose, my shoes tend to move around and wear down the pedal
platform. Once worn down, since there's no adjustment, the pedal is too loose
and needs replacing. That's happened with a couple of sets and with different
shoes, but I've never heard of it happening to anyone else. I think I'll look
into Candy SL next. I have read that the Mallet C are large and can have ground
clearance issues on turns. I can't comment much on the setup part, since Times
have no adjustment, I just screwed them on. The left pedal is left-hand thread,
but you probably knew that.

Good Luck,

Carlos

Subject: [NJ Mountain Biking] Pedals

Hi All,
I am finally going to invest in some clipless pedals and I have a
question. How difficult is it to set these things up by yourself? In
otherwords is it worth it for me to save some $$ and buy them on-line
or should I just dish out the money and have the guy at the bike shop
help me? I am looking at the Cran Bros. Mallet C pedals and I'll buy a
decent shoe for $80.00- $100.00.

Thanks for your help,
Leo

Hey leo, Setup isn't super hard but compatibility with shoes can be somewhat tricky. Crank brothers pedals work best when the sole doesn't catch on the pedal....
