Heritage Trails Bike Festival
September 14 - 17, 2006 at the Mauch Chunk Lake Park
The Jim Thorpe area has become well known for mountain biking over the
years. Learn where the experts and beginners like to ride. Advanced riders
are sure to enjoy some of local favorites that have been featured in leading
mountain biking publications. The event also includes educational and
interpretive rides of our popular rail-to-trails. Discover the Switchback
Trail and Lehigh Gorge along with local historians and learn about the
origins of these famous corridors.
Throw in a little entertainment, such as an open mike on Friday evening and
a bonfire social on Saturday night and you have the making for a truly
unique camping and biking experience. A gift package will also be yours to
keep as our way of thanking you for your active participation and interest
in our local trails.
The Parks Department is hard at work planning a finalized schedule of
events. We are hoping to include bike and tours to some of our local
tourist attractions including the #9 Mine & Museum in Lansford. The men at
the deep coal mine have a truly inspiring story to tell and we're betting
you'll enjoy every bit of it.
