RE: [niketiming] Does the Shoe Pod Position Affects the Calibration?

Hi all:

I passed your question along to our Product Tester here at Dynastream.  He’s the person most aware of how the pods function during real-world application.  Here’s what he had to say:

The key point to specify is constant positioning of the pod. As long as it is oriented the same way (and laced up the same way) as during calibration, there is no reason to re-calibrate every time it is removed from the shoe. The actual position chosen for calibration and subsequent running should be as close as possible to the position recommended in the manual, but deviations from it will only affect uncalibrated distance measurements…so “putting it slightly to the right or left” is fine as long as it is always the same.

As for the treadmill part of the question…there can be interference from other electronic devices (the cardio equipment) that can cause speed spikes and/or dropouts. He/she should keep an eye out for nonsensical pace/speed readings while running on the treadmill to determine if this is the case. If this is the cause of the decreased accuracy, try moving to another location in the gym.

Hope this helps.

Kerri Ann

Subject: [niketiming] Does the Shoe Pod Position Affects the Calibration?

Hi there,

Does the shoe position affect the calibration? as the manual says I
should place the shoe pod in the middle just below the laces tie.

If I put it slightly to the right or to the left, will this reduce the
accuracy.

If I remove the pod after calibration and place it again on the shoes
will I have to calibrate it again?

I've noticed also that when using the Triax watch on the treadmill,
the distance reading is not accurate, I had a difference of 300-350
meter in 9KM running. Is this true or not?

Thanks.

From my own experience with the older nike sdm footpod, it does make a difference. I've noticed that if it's not secure and wobbles, accuracy won't be as good...

In the back of the manual in the "specifications" section the accuracy is given as "+/- 3% (most runners)" 350 meters / 9000 meters = 3.8% 300 meters / 9000...
