Hi-
Don't know about the foot pod but it sounds like the shoe attachment
piece is separate but necessary.
I replaced my heart rate monitor strap after only a few months
(inadvertently left it out and my dog found it to be a great chew toy).
No problems linking the new strap to the watch. Cheaper than I thought
it would be.
