The Panthers continued to add experience to their
roster Tuesday, signing former Calgary left wing
Martin Gelinas to a two-year contract.
Gelinas, 35, has played in 1,052 NHL games for five
teams with 269 goals and 286 assists. He's played in
147 postseason games.
Gelinas becomes the third player with more than 1,000
NHL games to be signed by GM Mike Keenan in the last
two days, joining Joe Nieuwendyk and Gary Roberts.
Gelinas has appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals with
four teams -- Edmonton, Vancouver, Carolina and
Calgary.
"I thought Calgary was going to come through with a
one-year deal," Gelinas said. "It was a big move and a
quick decision to join the Panthers when I woke up
this morning. I thought Florida was moving in the
right direction."
Gelinas played for Keenan in Vancouver during the
1997-98 season.
The Panthers also signed defenseman Joel Kwiatkowski
and left wing Greg Jacina to two-year contracts.
Kwiatkowski, 28, has played 149 NHL games with Ottawa
(under the direction of Panthers coach Jacques Martin
from 2000-02) and Washington (2002-04). Jacina, 23,
had played in 78 games with the AHL's San Antonio
Rampage last season.
