Problem with Tarka is that he is now in the Olyroos camp, so will not be
available for the start of the season for Forest, hence why Doig is one
of the few centre backs being mentioned

opportunity upon his return to the City Ground.

Todd,
Stick me down for $50 mate, but you'll have to email me your bank details
privately as I've not got a cheque book... lucky I picked up this mail as the
wife has just cleaned me out as she's back off over to the UK for a few weeks,
she also reckons she's going to take my daughter to a gooners game... I'll deal
with her, don't worry...

Greetings from Tassie
G'day to all and especially to our convenor, Todd. It's great to see that
we continue to wave the flag for the NFSDU and Forest. I'm quiet down here
but I read all your posts with great interest and only wish I was on the
'big island' where I could visit one of our 'inter-club' games. Keep up

Todd, I'll contribute $100 but will not be able to post it until Monday as I
am 'on course' for the next 2 days and in Sydney for a Conference over the
weekend. I trust this will be okay. Let's hope that everyone gets behind

Hi All,
Second call for the David Tarka kit sponsorship.
The time of year has arrived for the renewal of our sponsorship of David

I would hope that we would be able to have this finalised by the start of
the new season in mid-August (that's about 3 weeks). At present, I have the
following contributions in my possession:
Stephen Hayes = $75
Zac Oosten = $80
TOTAL = $155
There are also pledges from the following members:
Jim Boutcher = $100
Scott Daley = $100
Steve Reeve = $50
Thanks to those who have already contributed, and also to those in the
process of contributing. I look forward to hearing from you all soon!

Being Hjelde's Number One Fan on this list, I think this would be fantastic!
(of course lol)
With the three listed in the article injured, is Doig the only centre back
we have?

Jon Olav Hjelde hopes to make a dream move back to the City Ground - to help
solve Nottingham Forest's defensive crisis.
The Norwegian central defender asked to train with the Reds this week after
his deal with South Korean club Buson Icons was cancelled.
And Joe Kinnear brought him on as a 65th-minute substitute for Wes Morgan in
last night's friendly with Middlesbrough.
Hjelde said: "I would love to return to Nottingham Forest. It would be a
dream move because I love the club, still have a house in Nottingham and my
family like it here."
The defender, who is 32 tomorrow, left Forest last summer as the club cut
its wage bill.
But after a spell overseas, he is searching for a club and had a trial with
QPR last week.
With Michael Dawson out for at least eight weeks with a groin injury, Wes
Morgan suspended for the first two games and John Thompson missing with a
dislocated shoulder, Hjelde is hoping he can fill the void at Forest.
"I asked for a trial this week to improve my fitness and I knew there were a
lot of central defenders out injured," Hjelde added.
"I felt pretty good physically when I came on and I think, with another
couple of games under my belt, I will be okay.
"I have stayed fit and it is up to me to prove that I have something to
offer the club. I have to show that in training this week."
Hjelde, who is available on a free transfer, first joined Forest from
Rosenborg, for £600,000 in 1997. He made 175 appearances, scoring six goals.
He was given a superb reception by the home fans last night and looked
comfortable in the centre of defence alongside Chris Doig.
Fellow defender Matthieu Louis-Jean played alongside him during his original
spell with the club and believes he could be the answer to the problems
faced at the start of the new season.
Louis-Jean said: "He is a good, experienced centre-back and it would not do
any harm to us if he was in the squad.
"It is up to the manager, but he looked sharp when he came on and it could
be a good opportunity for him and for us to get a good centre-back in the
team."
Kinnear said: "He asked for a trial with us and I thought, 'why not'? It is
just a case of looking at him to see what he has to offer.
"I want two central defenders and two midfielders before the season gets
under way."

"Ward is still young though and goalies seem to take a while to mature as
players" ...... a bit like Kiwi Centre forwards then!! :)
Ward is a good shot stopper, but the games I have seen him in I feel he does not
command his box enough, nor comes out for bread and butter crosses. I feel this
is why we tend to concede way too many goals from set pieces. However if he goes
I reckon we need a better replacement than Roche, who didn't impress too many
people last season.
Looks like one step back for 2 steps forward to me.....

Forest keeper Darren Ward could be on his way to Leeds United.
And Reds manager Joe Kinnear could use the money from the deal - believed to be
in the region of £400,000 - in a renewed bid for Everton midfielder Leon Osman.
It is understood Ward is set to leave the City Ground after finding himself
behind new signing Paul Gerrard.
And the Elland Road club are still looking for a keeper after Paul Robinson left
for Spurs.
United boss Kevin Blackwell has his sights on Welsh international Ward - having
failed in a bid to sign Gerrard.
He was due to meet his board today to discuss funds and the deal could hinge on
the result.
It is thought talks took place between the two clubs before Forest left for
their pre-season tour to the United States.
Ward, who was David Platt's last signing as Forest manager in 2001, had a back
operation over the summer.
The former Notts and Mansfield keeper missed the end of the season after being
injured against Gillingham in February.
Barry Roche deputised until Gerrard was brought in from Goodison Park on a loan
deal on transfer deadline day.
Gerrard played eight games and was never on the losing side.
Gerrard has started both Forest's main games in the States against DC United and
Richmond Kickers, with Ward on the bench.
Kinnear now has three senior keepers at his disposal after Roche signed a new
contract in the summer.
But he is looking to boost the central midfield following the departure of
Gareth Williams to Leicester.
He used Andy Reid there against DC United, alongside Paul Evans.
Forest have already failed with a £400,000 bid for Osman but any cash from the
Ward sale would strengthen Kinnear's hand, with Everton facing financial
problems.
Forest end their tour with a game at Virginia Beach Mariners tonight.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- D.C. United put English first division side
Nottingham Forest through their paces on Wednesday night, but could not
break down a steadfast defence in a 1-1 draw. United dominated
possession, especially in the second half, and forced save after save
from Forest goalkeepers Paul Gerrard and Darren Ward, and claimed a 4-3
victory in a penalty kick shootout.
Forest, who have been conducting preseason training in Richmond, Va.,
were welcomed by a vocal contingent of expatriate supporters. United
fans had plenty to shout about as well, welcoming Santino Quaranta back
to action after a long injury layoff and watching phenom Freddy Adu play
a full 90 minutes for the first time this year.
Recent signing Ezra Hendrickson started in place of All-Star Ryan Nelsen
in central defence, making an immediate impact at the attacking end only
nine minutes in. Earnie Stewart swept in a tantalizing corner kick, and
Hendrickson used his dominating height advantage to full effect, rising
high to head home from the six-yard box.
With one team in preseason and the other shuffling its line up, the
first half was marked by sloppy play and miscommunication, though Jaime
Moreno continued his impressive resurgence with deft touches and smart
distribution.
He was at the centre of United's most fluid play, including a smooth
combination with Stewart in the 21st minute that sprung Dema Kovalenko
in the 18-yard box. Kovalenko's cross just missed Adu but fell to Joshua
Gros on the far post, whose shot created havoc in the six-yard box but
was frantically cleared by the Forest defence.
On the ensuing corner, Adu's service was headed back across by Moreno,
and another Hendrickson header was goalbound but cleared off the line.
Moreno bewitched Matthieu Louis-Jean to make space, but his left-footed
shot just missed the far post.
Only two weeks into training, Nottingham Forest's fitness levels could
not match DC's, so they seemed content to absorb pressure and look for
openings to counterattack, highlighted by the pace of striker David
Johnson.
The strategy was rewarded in the 32nd minute as Louis-Jean's mazy run
down the right flank set up Gareth Taylor, who laid the ball off for
Andy Reid. Reid stunned Nick Rimando with a blistering drive from almost
30 yards out, rattling into the lower left corner for a fine equaliser.
Gerrard, Forest's 'keeper in the first half, came up big in the 35th
minute, kick-saving Adu's shot in a one-on-one situation, then watched
Stewart blast the rebound over the bar.
Gerrard was hard at work again just moments later, tipping Gros' drive
wide in the 37th minute, and denying Kovalenko from point blank range
from the ensuing corner. Johnson immediately ignited a Forest
counterattack, carrying the ball from box to box before firing wide of
Rimando.
The second half was less frenetic but still dominated by United, with
Adu looking increasingly confident. He often dropped deeper into
midfield to get more possession, and took most of D.C.'s corners and
free kicks. His 53rd minute cross found Hendrickson in the box again,
but the big Vincentian international nodded just wide.
Alecko Eskandarian led a United counterattack in the 66th minute,
knocking wide to Gros, whose rebound dropped to Adu at the penalty spot.
His curling effort was spectacularly saved by Forest 'keeper Ward,
diving at full stretch.
Forest's best chance came two minutes later, as David Johnson struck a
hard shot from just outside the box that caromed off the right post.
Despite multiple chances in the Forest box, United was unable to sneak
in the winning goal in the closing minutes, highlighted by Quaranta's
injury time opportunity. Gros raced down the right side and slotted back
to Quaranta at the penalty spot, but the Baltimore native's shot sailed
over the top.
For entertainment as much as competition, the two teams proceeded to a
penalty shootout after the game's conclusion, where United scored four
of out five spot kicks to win. Appropriately enough, the winner was
smashed in by Ben Olsen, who spent several months on loan at Nottingham
Forest three years ago.

Subject: [NFSDU] David Tarka Kit Sponsorship
Hi All,
The time of year has arrived for the renewal of our sponsorship of David
Tarka's kit sponsorship. This will be our second year sponsoring
David's
kit, and fourth year of kit sponsorship overall (having previously
sponsored
Gareth Edds' away kit).
I have been advised by Laura Perkins at Forest that the cost of the
sponsorship for this season has risen to #350.00 + VAT, meaning a total
of
#411.25. That equates to $1054.49 at the current exchange rate of $AUD1

39p.
Could those who have contacted me regarding sponsorship over the last
month,
and anyone else interested in getting involved, get in touch with me
either
via this list or at toddstreet@... to make pledges, etc.
Any contributions may be sent to the following address:

As usual, cheques and postal orders may be addressed to "Todd Street"

to "NFSDU", as NFSDU has no legal identity of its own).
I would hope that we would be able to have this finalised by the start
of
the new season in early August.

Speaking of Rogers, did he take a paycut to return from the Foxes and it
would sure be poetic justice if he were on less than when he originally
left!
Wonder if Leicester has engaged in "tapping" at all with all these Forest
players they signed the last couple of years?

Hi All,

Scott,
This is consistent with the articles in the press at the moment. The talk is
that both Norwich and Palace are interested in Harewood. If he has ambitions
to play in the Premiership this year then this would seem to put a halt to
his return to the City Ground.
There was also talk that Osman would be signing with Forest from Everton.
This has also been dismissed in today's press as he is a required player.
Regards
Julian

FOREST BID FOR OSMAN
IAN WILKERSON
12:00 - 06 July 2004
Joe Kinnear revealed today he is trying to sign Everton's Leon Osman.
Forest have bid £400,000 for the 23-year-old, who had a successful loan
spell at Derby County last season.
Kinnear said: "We have put in a bid for him and we are still trying to do
something.
"We will have to wait and see what happens in the next few days - but I am
still hopeful."
Kinnear has made a central midfielder a priority following the departure of
Scottish international Gareth Williams to Leicester City.
And Osman put in one of the most impressive performances of the season in
March, when he helped inspire the Rams to a 4-2 win over Forest at Pride
Park.
Kinnear revealed in the Evening Post yesterday that he still wants to bring
in two more players before the Coca-Cola Championship kicks off, against
Wigan Athletic on August 7.
He has also been linked again with a move for former Forest striker Marlon
Harewood.
Speculation over the front-man's future has been rife after he was moved to
a wide midfield position by Hammers boss Alan Pardew, to accommodate Bobby
Zamora. But Harewood's agent, Phil Sprowson, said: "This talk about Marlon
being linked to a move back to Forest has certainly not come from our end.
"Marlon is fine at West Ham and I spoke to Alan Pardew a few weeks ago and
he is looking forward to working with him again next season." Harewood was
second-top scorer in the First Division last season with 26 goals.
The 24-year-old has also been linked with Premiership sides Norwich City and
West Brom, as well as Championship outfit Leicester City.
Meanwhile, Forest's trip to Plymouth on Monday August 30 has been put back
until 8pm.
The Boxing Day match at West Ham will kick off at 1pm and the match at
Cardiff City, on Monday, January 3, will also start at 1pm.

Saw him play here in Adelaide for the world cup qulaifiers against
all the pacific nations. Looked quite solid as a centre-back. Tall,
good in the air and never let anything past. His passing was also
pretty good. Played one game in right-back and he looked lost.
Didn't seem to know if he should be attacking or staying back and
got caught out a few times.
Hopefully the Olyroos will be using him in the centre.
Depending on how he goes in the reserves he'd have to be close to
first back up for either Dawson or Morgan. I guess there's Doig that
could fill that spot as well though...
Let's hope the tribunal is kind and we get a fair fee for Williams,
after all we do have to pay back the council! Newcastle got a great
deal in James Millner for less than they paid us for Jenas. They will
have a great midfield for years to come with those two. Looks like
they have a good chance at Kluivert also. It's nice to have money!!
Scott.
One thing that I noticed over the pass week or 5. Barnsley have signed
Tony Vaughan.
Barnsley yes Paul Hart's new club have signed Tony Vaughan yes ex-Forest
player who Hart decided had the plague and never to play in the 1st
team.
How things have changed
But he has however managed to sign Stephen McPhail from Leeds on a
freebie, so he obviously still using his Leeds connects well
