Geoff,
Nice to know that I'm not on my own remembering the 1959
"Scottingham Forest" cup winners. Going back to that side we actually had
one Nottingham born player in the team Geoff Thomas, he played full back
with Bill Whare and Bobby McKinlay was captain that day. I still have the
programme which has been through floods and fires but is still in one piece.

Hi my name is Geoff James and I am just on the wrong side of 50. I
have supported Forest since 1955 and was very lucky to see Jack Burkitt
and the lads win the FA cup against Luton in 1959. In fact when I was
a kid one of my good friends was Roger Burkitt the son of Jack who only
lived a couple of streets away. I was born within the City of
Nottingham boundary and lived in Burns Street close to the Arboretum
and Forest I have been to most Forest home and some away matches
between 1957 and 1974. I came to Aus in 74 and live in Melbourne.
Best player that is hard because there have been so many good
individual players possibly Wilson, Dwight, Nigel Clough or Pearce.
Lets hope that Hart can pull the team together for the next season now
that Platt has gone to the FA as under 21's coach.
Go the reds

Greetings Forest Faithful
Nice to see all the introductions. I'm Paul Marcuccitti, 27 and born, bred
and living in Adelaide. I work for an MP but please don't hold that against
me.
As my last name might indicate, I have Italian parents. My father, being a
soccer fan, let me stay up late to watch Brian Moore's old show when I was a
little kid. I'm glad there's more than one hour of soccer per week on
television these days.
Soccer on TV meant the English League and the first team I saw was a
red-shirted side from a place called Nottingham. Unfortunately I was too
young to appreciate the fact that Forest were European Champions. But I knew
they were bloody good.
My memories of Robbo and Francis are a little vague so my favourite players
would have to be Pearce, Des Walker and Steve Hodge. I probably have fondest
memories of the 88/89 team - the best since the European winners.
Best win? It's a toss-up between the '91 FA Cup semi (4-0 over West Ham) or
the 1-0 League win at Old Trafford in that same season. I remember the Man U
fans singing "You missed in Italy, Stuart Pearce, Stuart Pearce" as he was
lining up a long-range free kick. They promptly shut up when he slammed it
into the back of the net. Even Psycho couldn't resist waving to them.
I've been to England twice. We were in the Nationwide League both times but
it was still great to finally sit in the Trent End. Several years ago, I was
lucky enough to meet a Forest fan holidaying in Adelaide. He has a jewellery
shop in Pelham St and I have somewhere to stay if I'm ever in Nottingham -
great city, great people. (Much nicer than Manchester.)
The club is short of a few quid at the moment but I think the current squad
is OK and we seem to be developing some talented youngsters. Platt is doing
a good job - we'll be back soon.
I've crapped on long enough.
Go the Forest!
Paul
I'm Darren O'Brien, 35, born in Nottingham but my folks moved to NZ when I was a
wee babe. Have recently escaped and moved over to the Gold Coast in January this
year.
Because of this tenuous connection, and also as my folks are originally from M_
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ R and Dad follows those other Reds!! !@#$
Have been following Forest since around the 80's though have yet to see a game
in person at The City Ground, though I have been over in the summer a few times.
Favorite players?? Probably have to go with Stu Pearce, N Clough, the current
team havent a real standout though Prutts has made an impact. Lets see if Lester
can do something this season, and theres Stern John??
Lets see if Platt can muster the troops for this new campaign, and if the
Bartman has to go lets get a good price, so we can have some money in the
coffers!!
Paul Hart has produced more than just squad players, he at least has provided
some silverware!!
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Cheers,
Daz

Hi All,
I am David Drew and I've been following Forest since about the late 80's. Im
23, living in Melbourne and currently working for a company called ThalesATM
as a software engineer. I've spent my whole life following Forest and I
always get asked how I got into following Forest and to be honest, I really
do not know. My favourite player going around at the minute would have to
Andy Johnson and Psycho would have to be my favourite averall.
I was quite dissappointed with Forests effort the season just gone because I
really did think that they should have made the play-offs with the team they
had. But it was all those loses against the bottom sides which did come back
bite us.
I have to agree with Anthony and say that Forests win at Old Trafford and be
the first team to beat ManU that season at home was a great game! I'll never
forget Stan Collymore's strike to score the first on his left foot, it was
an absolute ripper!
I think in about 5 odd years, Forest will be in a similar position to Leeds
United (minus the big bank balance of course) where we have great young
players to build a successfull team around and stay in the Premiership for
years to come!
Cheers
DAvid

I thought Robbo was a right footed left winger, Steve??? Read an article on
the demolition of Ipswich in the Charity Shield and they featured wingers
playing on off wings...somebody help us out here??
There are prob a lot of bandwagon fans for Utd because of all the success
since the Premiership started:) just imagine the spinoff to Liverpool, for
example.

I have to agree with John about Pierre Van W being such an SOB (yeah, W
instead of the H).
I'm Grant Cowan in Perth, WA & I became a fan listening to the 79 game
against Malmo (never seen more than a brief glimpse of Francis' header for
the winner in all my time) on BBC shortwave radio in Libya. I work for
Centrelink in the Family Assistance Office and went to six big stores in
London but could find nothing more than a Forest scarf because they only had
Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal or Liverpool crap:)
My fave player would have to be Trevor Francis (actually, it is really Robbo
for all the penalties, but thought I would be different from the last three
messages I got LOL) and worst all time would either be Andre Silenzi or
Calvin Plummer-can't speak ill of the late Justin Fashanu...

Well,
its a bit like an AA meeting.
I am antony wardle
been following forest since winning a bet with a lpool
fan back in the early ninetys
I was born in Chch nz, spent the last 12 years in wellington NZ
and have just moved to Sydney so I can play in a forest team.
Hasn't happened yet, but soon right todd?
I work for vodafone, and for a few months adopted Jim Boutcher
and his wife clare, when they moved to nz. I catch up with Ian surgay
in chch when ever I get down there.
Hoping that forest get promoted this year, and think that the current board
are the best we've had for a while. No really favourite player
but did quite like the forest v Manu at old trafford game where we became
the first team to beat them there in the premiership, and the game V the
Arse
at home in SP first game in charge when Wright got sent off. (We won that
one as well)

I'm Jim Boutcher - born in Wellington, UK, now resident in Wellington,
NZ. Forest fan since a wee 'un back in Lenton in the late 70s. Favorite
player would be John Robertson, although I've always harboured a soft
spot for Stanley Victor as the greatest player I've ever seen.
I'd like to echo some of the sentiment from the Talkback forum in that
Todd has achieved a remarkable coup in getting the affiliation of Paul
Hart. As an aside to that, I'd like to see the academy actually deliver
something more than squad players before Paul Hart is even considered
for management - all the potential in the world doesn't actually win
you anything unless you live up to it.
Looking forward to the new season as I think our settled squad might be
good enough - it isn't a strong division this year with a lot of very
similar quality teams. Should be interesting. Looking for Johnson and
Lester to strike up the most fearsome partnership around. Well, you
never know.
Jim

No FA contact for Forest ^top
Nottingham Forest have yet to receive an official approach for the services
of David Platt from the Football Association.
Reports yesterday suggested the FA would make a move to seek permission to
talk to Platt about the vacant England Under-21 manager's job within 24
hours.
But The Reds have yet to hear anything from Soho Square and Platt, who is
still refusing to be drawn on the speculation, is continuing to carry out
his Forest duties as normal.
Platt flew to Holland with the rest of his coaching staff and 23 players
yesterday and he plans to spend the next seven days in a training camp.
But should the call come from the FA, and Forest give them permission to
talk to Platt, he could find himself heading home earlier than expected.
Picture: Platt waiting to return to England fold

Platt confident of camp benefits ^top
David Platt is convinced his side's Holland trip will pay rich dividends, by
building on the team spirit which already exists in the squad.
Platt, his coaching staff and 23 players will spend the next seven days at a
training camp in Nunspeet, a small village 100 kilometres east of Amsterdam.
They will play two games against local opposition but the main emphasis of
the trip is conditioning work, with Platt poised to ask his men to train
twice, if not three times a day.
The manager, who continues to shrug aside speculation about his future at
The City Ground amid talk that he is poised to take over as manager of the
England Under-21 side, says: "I'm sure the trip will prove beneficial.
"It will give the players the opportunity to live in each other's pockets
for 24 hours a day and that can only enhance the team spirit already in
place.
"It's good to get out and get a change of scenery as heading down to the
same training ground day after day can become monotonous."
Picture: Platt - an exponent of camp
Rising star gets Dutch encouragement ^top
Forest youngster Niall Hudson has been handed an early chance to claim a
first team spot, by being included in the Dutch training camp squad.
The Irish teenager has been included in a 23-man squad for Forest's
seven-day Holland trip.
Hudson, a graduate of Forest's much-acclaimed Academy system, caught the eye
of manager David Platt with a string of highly-promising displays at reserve
level in the closing weeks of last season.
Hudson, who operates at right back, was rewarded with a one-year
professional contract and has already found himself handed an opportunity to
make a real impact.
John left in England ^top
Forest have begun their Dutch training camp without Trinidad and Tobago
striker Stern John, who did not have a visa in his travel documents.
The striker was unable to join his team-mates as they flew out to the camp
at Nunspeet and he must now go to the Dutch Embassy in London to obtain the
visa.
Despite jetting across the globe this summer, representing his country in
their World Cup qualifiers in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and even the
Dutch Antilles islands, John was not allowed to fly out to Holland as he is
a non-EU player.
The 24-year-old is expected to join up with the rest of the squad before
their first friendly match, against local amateur side DVS 33 on Thursday.

Going Dutch - 9/7/2001
Forest will today step-up their preparations for the new season by checking
in to a training camp in Holland.
Manager David Platt, his coaching staff and 23 players will spend the next
seven days holed-up in the camp in the Dutch countryside.
Forest will play two games during the trip but Platt intends to concentrate
largely on fitness work.
He told us: "The players have had a hard week of training at The City Ground
since reporting back for pre-season.
"It will be good for them to get away and work in a different environment as
going to the same training ground day after day get can a bit monotonous.
"We will be working the players hard but it's also an opportunity to start
playing games again."
Forest are due to meet a local amateur side, DVS 33, on Thursday at
Sportpark Ermelo (kick-off 7pm local time, 6pm in the UK).
Heracles Almelo , a Dutch Second Division outfit, will provide the
opposition on Sunday at their Polman Stadion (kick-off 5pm local time, 4pm
in the UK).

Welcomed with open arms - 10/7/2001
David Platt and his players are settling in at their Dutch training camp
boosted by the knowledge they have been welcomed with open arms by local
authorities.
And that’s more than the Turkish national team were when they tried to book
into the same hotel near Nunspeet, a small village an hour’s drive from
Amsterdam.
Turkey wanted to stay at the hotel during the Euro 2,000 Championships - but
the local mayor dashed their hopes.
Forest boss Platt explained: "The mayor was aware of the problems caused by
Galatasary supporters earlier in the season and decided he didn’t want any
potentially volatile supporters around Nunspeet.
"So he refused permission for Turkey to stay at the hotel."
The hotel is set in acres of woodland and is a short walk from the training
ground where Platt will put his players through their paces over the next
seven days.
Platt added: "The hotel is ideal for us. It’s a conference hotel and is
designed to deal with large groups. The facilities are excellent and we’ve
been made to feel very welcome."
Platt has taken 23 players on the trip, including teenagers Jermaine Jenas
and Niall Hudson and comeback men Alan Rogers and David Freeman - both of
whom are on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery.
Rogers made his return to action in the closing weeks of last season after
five months on the sidelines nursing a knee ligament injury but was forced
to undergo an operation after suffering a slight setback.
Freeman, meanwhile, underwent an ankle ligament surgery and, like Rogers,
has yet to resume full training. Both men will, however, continue their
rehabilitation in Holland under the watchful eye of the Forest medical team.

Nottingham Forest Supporters Down Under News Release
Newcastle, Australia
Wednesday 11 July 2001, 12.32am
---
Nottingham Forest Supporters Down Under (NFSDU), the Australian and New
Zealand branch of the Official Nottingham Forest Supporters Club, is proud
to announce the appointment of its Inaugural Patron and Honorary Life
Member. Mr Paul Hart, who played 87 games and scored 3 goals for Forest in
the mid-1980's, and now holds the position of Director of Nottingham
Forest's Youth Academy, has graciously accepted NFSDU's offer of patronage
and honorary life membership.
Mr Hart said: "I am absolutely delighted to become the inaugural patron and
an honorary life member of NFSDU. It is a great honour."
Todd Street, chairman and founder of Nottingham Forest Supporters Down
Under, said: "Paul has shown a tremendous interest in the growth of NFSDU,
and a willingness to be of assistance to our cause whenever possible. He
was also our guest of honour at our Inaugural Annual General Meeting. On
top of his obvious achievements with Forest, both as a player, and now as
Director of the Youth Academy, we feel that Paul's contribution to the NFSDU
cause more than warrants any recognition we can bestow upon him. We are
honoured that Paul has accepted our offer."
A formal acknowledgment of Mr Hart's appointment as Inaugural Patron and
Honorary Life Member of NFSDU will take place in the coming months, where Mr
Hart will be presented with a plaque to commemorate his appointment by a
visiting member of Nottingham Forest Supporters Down Under.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for your comments. You've made some very interesting points.
I remember the Pearce incident with him picking 11 outfielders. I remember
seeing on Match of the Nineties a comment he made where he said he thought
he had come up with a brilliant formation, until his wife pointed out that
he hadn't picked a keeper. After Norm's howler in the first half, I bet he
was wishing he went with 11 outfielders!
Larry Lloyd is definitely a cult figure with Forest fans. Everyone
appreciates what he did with us as a player, but loyalties to him outside
his Forest career appear evenly split down the middle. Some love him, but
others find him annoying due to what you could label his constant 'moaning'
about the club's direction, and also the fact that he supported Scholar and
Markham's bid for the club till he was blue in the face. Now, we all now
where they left our club... :(
I think I mentioned before that the biggest obstacle in the way of a Clough
Jnr or Psycho appointment would be the experience with Platt, and time it
has taken him to learn his trade. I'm guessing that, if Platt were to leave
now, they would appoint from within, due to the time factor before the start
of the season. That's why Hart would be considered a good option - our
focus in the future will be on youth, and he is the man that has brought
them through.
After speaking to Mr Hart a year or so ago, I came away with the impression
that he was keen to stay involved with the Youth Academy even if appointed
as manager. I got the impression also that he would not be averse to going
back there should things not work out - I think he just wants the chance to
see if he can do it.
Here's to promotion, whoever the manager.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Go the Forest,
Todd Street.

G'Day Guys and Gals,
Read your comments with interest.
With regards to Platty. I think he's done fair considering the team
he inherited, and considering the club is broke. Sure enough he's
learning his trade, and made mistakes. The sort of mistakes that
Pearce would probably make too, but perhaps being Pearce we'd
overlook them (we all know the story of him picking 11 outfield
players once). I would think that Platty will one day become a great
manager, and hopefully he can do that with Forest.
Comments about Larry Lloyd managing again are scary. He had a go at
managing a long time ago, and didn't pull up too many trees. He's
better in the back room "geeing up the lads" and in the bar telling a
few old stories about how he and Burnies carved them up in the 70's.
If Platt did go (and considering every man and his dog seems to be
after him its looking more likely) I would like to see Clough Jr and
Pearce strike up a partnership again. Maybe more on sentiment than
anything else, but I think what they lack in experience they will
more than make up for in effort, and enthusiasm for the game. Plus
they'd have every Forest supporter on their side from day 1.
Paul Hart is in the best possible place at the moment. He's working
miracles and saving the club millions. I would hate to see him turn
all that in, to try his hand at managing. Good coaches have tried it
before and haven't made the transition (re - Kidd and even Russell
Slade to name a couple - Middlesboro watch this space). Lets just
hope
his ability to turn out potential star players continues this coming
season.
Here's to the new season
Go the Reds

Hello All,
Now we have a decent membership (approximately 30 as I speak), I guess it
would be a good time to start the introductions, so we can all get to know
each other a bit better, identify the members with whom each of you may wish
to organise events (ie: who lives in your area), etc.
My name is Todd Street, and I am the chairman/ founder of Nottingham Forest
Supporters Down Under. I reside in Newcastle, New South Wales, which is
roughly 150km north of Sydney. I'm 22 years old, and I am currently
studying Law by correspondence at the University of New England. I've never
been to England, and therefore I've yet to see Forest play live.
I've been supporting Forest since watching them in the 1991 FA Cup Final.
My favourite Forest player of all time would probably be Stuart Pearce,
although Nigel Clough would probably be another (I didn't really get to see
him play all that much for Forest).
My hopes for this season are that Forest consolidate themselves in the
play-off positions of the First Division, and hopefully achieve promotion
that way. I believe our goal should be promotion of some description in the
next three seasons.
I look forward to reading the introductions of everyone else. Be as brief
or verbose as you like. You can send your introduction by posting to
nfsdu@yahoogroups.com
Hope to hear from you all soon.
Go the Forest,
Todd Street.
Hello All,
In my neverending quest to get Forest on Fox Sports next season, I've
managed to eek out this response from Foxtel Feedback (paraphrased of
course, due to their confidentiality requirement):
- Fox Sports still don't have the rights, and have not yet negotiated a deal
- They are well aware of our interest, and will definitely investigate the
opportunity of screening the programming should the opportunity arise.
- Fox Sports can be contacted via info@...
My take from this is that Optus probably have the rights at the moment (boo,
hiss), or they have first option on the rights for next season. Maybe we
should email Optus and say that we'll cancel our subscriptions to them if
they pick up the rights next season! ;)
Hope to hear from you all soon.
Go the Forest,
Todd Street.
Hi Steve,
I've heard a lot of opinion of it, ranging from being labelled as a
'training top that didn't sell' to 'something from the bargain bin' to 'a
pyjama top'. I've heard other comments from people saying they liked it as
well.
I'm just happy it isn't that awful yellow shirt that we used to have...

Go the Reds
Steve Reeve
Greetings from sunny Montreal,
First of all, many thanks to all who made this forum possible, it's
always nice to hear from Red supporters all over the world.
A few thoughts on the current Forest predicament:
Platt:
The jury is still out on his ability to manage, but then again,
following up a guy who takes a provincial club to 2 European Cup wins
is a tough act to follow, even more so for a rookie manager, no matter
how bright he is. Having said that, young Platt has made some dubious
signings like any other managers (the Italian trifecta, Brennan), but
at least he was wise enough to cut his losses and release the dead
wood from the books. Also, he's had to deal with a debilitating run of
injuries (not the usual training pulls and strains) which restricted
his ability to pick the same side week in and week out. So therefore,
let's cut the gaffer a bit of slack, let him clean up the finances and
grow in the job. Leave Paul Hart where he can help us the most
(working with the youngsters).
Bart:
Congratulations to the Forest board for not giving up to the Brum
pornkings. We seem to forget that deep down he wants to stay, and if
we get promoted, the cash should be in place to tie him up on a
long-term deal.
That being said, looking forward to a new exciting season of Forest
football, kick-off is only a month away !!!
Crash
Hi Grant,
My comments are interspered within yours, under "TS:" I've labelled your
comments as "GC:"
GC: Nothing against David Platt but I am not sure I rate him particularly
highly as a manager, particularly as we seemed to have a plethora of central
defenders being signed, though injuries somewhat accounted for that. I have
not noticed if Tony Vaughan is still with the club after that stamping
incident and the knee jerk reaction to place him on the transfer
list...granted it was his second sending off and I would not want a player
who intentionally tried to injure opponents, but it was not a well reasoned
reaction. Also, does anyone know why we let Crossley and Woan go without
even a new contract, but persist with a 40+ goalkeeper? Darren Ward is just
about the best signing Platt has made!
TS: I tend to agree with the fact that DP has flattered to deceive in his
two years as manager. What his supporters tend to focus on is the fact that
he seems to have the 'requirements', if you like, of a good manager -
intelligence, articulate, determination, etc. Some are even as bold as to
draw a distinction with Brian Clough, in that Clough didn't really achieve a
great deal in his first two seasons either (16th and 8th, as memory serves).
I think, personally, that it is important to balance the need for stability
(ie: do an Ipswich, and not a Wolves), with the need for achievement and
consistent improvement. I think we probably did improve slightly from DP's
first to second year - from flirting with relegation to flirting with the
play-offs. We do need to see more tangible improvement this season, though.
That means consolidating within the play-offs, at least.
WRT the central defenders, I think that is a combination of injuries (as you
say) and also the need for an experienced head who can do a job in Division
One. Players we usually wouldn't touch with a 10 foot barge pole (ie:
Benali) became useful because they were solid, experienced pros, who didn't
set the club back much in terms of wages.
I agree with the TV comments. I argued at the time that Andy Johnson should
have received the same discipline for punching Muscat in the face. At least
what TV did could be argued as being something done reasonably in the course
of a football match (ie: he was going for the ball, rather than assaulting
someone with a hand).
WRT Woan and Crossley, I believe they were both offered new contracts, but
refused to sign them. Crossley, in particular, was offered a good contract
(he would have been one of the highest earners at the club, I believe,
although it was not as good as his previous contract) but he decided that he
wanted to maintain his wage (as he is entitled) and took up the offer from
Middlesbrough. Ian Woan was offered a far less lucrative contract, but that
was on the basis of the fact that he was only a squad player at that time,
rather than a prospective international when he signed the previous one. I
do believe, though, that letting both players go was probably for the long
term benefit of the club. They'd both gotten a little stale at Forest and I
think their moves had done them good (if only in their hip-pocket, as Norm
is third choice at Boro).
Ward is a great signing. He's a current Welsh international, and is widely
regarded as a great future prospect. He's only 27 (as opposed to Beasant
being 42), which means that he is a good investment for the future. Young
Barry Roche is a year older as well, so I think we look fairly capable at
the back.
---
GC: Wasn't Dave Bassett the previous manager? That would be a tremendous
step backwards, though Stuart Pearce would be an idea...how many recall his
tenure for a few months after Frank Clark resigned? Why not bring in someone
connected with the Glory Years-either Pearce or someone like Larry Lloyd-to
try to teach the kids what it's like to win? If we lost Bart-Williams &
Prutton, that would be a body blow to Promotion prospects!
TS: The Orange One was previous manager, although the only really memorable
thing he achieved was to sit in the opposition dug-out. I think Pearce and
Clough are excellent future candidates, although now may be a little soon
for both. Clough Snr has stated about Nige that he wants to see him stay at
Burton for a while, then go to a 3rd division side, and then look at a job
at a 'big club' - ie: learn his trade, then take on a big job. Same sort of

morale of supporters. I tend to support 3 candidates - Paul Hart, Viv
Anderson, or Wim Jansen (ex-Celtic). Frank Clark as a 'father figure' to
Psycho or Nigel would be another possibility.
---
GC: I was insulted by Brum's initial offer for the captain, and to have them
publicly deride Forest over the transfer fee really made matters worse, but
why oh why was Chris not offered a nice big contract so we can build the
team around him and Prutton??? Think of the money wasted on the Italians who
had injuries, when it could have been given to Mark, Ian and Chris to keep
the foundation of a good team. Too late now, I guess.
TS: I agree that it was an insulting offer, and I think Bart was a little
shocked not to see a Premiership club come in. Brum are just looking
desperate now, as Bart has pretty much said that he wants to stay till the
end of the season.
WRT the contract offer, the club was losing 100k per week at the end of last
season. They have reduced that to 40k per week by letting players go, but
40k per week is still a big debt to carry. I think the board, and Platt,
would like to re-sign Bart, but they cannot reasonably meet his increased
demands (he is already on Prem wages) as a First Division side losing the
money they are. We can hope, though, that we achieve promotion at the end
of next season, which would give Bart the ability to play in the Prem, and
also us the ability to play Prem wages. I am confident, though, that the
future of the club is safe in the hands of Paul Hart and the massively
successful Youth Academy.

the quality football West Ham were playing and following Frederick Kanoute's

HISS! HERESY!!! LOL) at one point last season...
TS: Barry Roche is the teenager you mention. He made his debut at the
Crystal Palace away game where we won 3-2. Beasant was sent off in the 90th
minute for bringing down a Palace player in the area. Roche proceeded to
save the penalty - brilliant debut! Gareth Williams is a Welsh midfielder
who is a product of the Youth Academy. Like a number of other products of
the Youth Academy, he is being eased into first team action. He is
apparently a little lightweight at this stage, although that is easily
changed by some time in the weights room.

Hello All,
Thank you all for your support of the NFSDU Forum. I'd expect that the
number of members on the forum should add to about 50 fairly quickly, if the
initial response is anything to go by. Hopefully this forum will become the
hub of NFSDU activity, allowing everyone to easily contact each other, get
to know each other, and organise events relevant to members in all areas of
Australia.
Some interesting notes from the English press recently...
- Platty continues to be linked with the England Under 21 job. He's good
mates with Sven Goran Erikkson from their time together as player and
manager at Sampdoria, and the press seems to have put two and two together.
Whether they have come up with 4 is to be seen, although worryingly for
Platt supporters the news has now been carried in more reputable
publications such as The Times, rather than just the usual tabloid
newspapers such as the Mirror and the Sun.
- Dave Bassett had been linked with a move back to Forest as manager. A
number of reliable sources dispute this, though, and seem to believe that,
should Platt go, Paul Hart would be a reasonable option. Thoughts?
- Stuart Pearce has signed with Manchester City as player-coach. It is
unknown whether he has a managerial release clause in his contract, but
sources have stated that he would be keen to come back. Would the
appointment of Psycho be a realistic proposition, considering the fact that
Forest may have been seen as being burnt once by an inexperienced manager?
- Birmingham City, rather pathetically, continue to insist that their bid
for Chris Bart-Williams is still a possibility of coming off. David Gold,
some imbecile from their board, has asked Forest to compromise, after they
rejected bids of 500k and 1 million pounds. However, as reported
exclusively by www.nottinghamforest.co.uk, the BartMan has decided to see
out the final 12 months of his contract. Bart, who has stated that he wants
to play in the Premiership, would hardly see Birmingham - a nearly-is club
for most of recent memory - as a sure-fire way into the Premiership.
Worryingly, though, West Ham is reported to have shown some initial
interest...

FA approach expected ^top
The Football Association are said to be ready to move in the next 24 hours
to attempt to make David Platt the new England Under-21 manager.
Reports in today's press suggest the FA will make an official approach to
Forest within the next 24 hours.
They will seek permission from Forest to speak to Platt about the position,
which was vacated last month by the FA's technical director Howard
Wilkinson.
The possible move has attracted criticism from League Managers Association
chief executive and former Forest player John Barnwell, who said he would
have sympathy with the club over the timing of events if the deal goes
through.
Platt, meanwhile, is preparing to fly to Holland with his first-team squad.
They will spend a week at a training camp – although whether or not Platt
will see the trip out must be open to some debate.
Picture: Forest hope to hang on to Platt

Prutts calm over Platt links ^top
David Prutton insists speculation over the future of manager David Platt is
not affecting the Forest players as they prepare for the new season.
Platt is being linked with the England Under-21 job and could soon be on his
way out of The City Ground, but Prutton and his team-mates are refusing to
let the speculation become a distraction as they prepare for the new season.
He said: "People have discussed it, but this is football and people do come
and go when jobs arise.
"When there are opportunities nobody knows what's going to happen and we
will have to wait and see."
Ironically, Prutton is firmly established as a member of the Under-21 squad
and he added: "The Under-21s is about grooming players for the full team and
the Under-21 coach has to work with the senior manager and try to express
his thoughts with the younger team.
"David is a very good coach and a good manager.
"It’s always difficult when you work with somebody you saw play for England
who then ends up being your manager.
"You have experiences of him as being a player and he can demonstrate the
things he wants in training because he was a good player."
Picture: Prutton - will be working with Platt next season
Blues call for Bart negotiations ^top
Birmingham believe their offer for Chris Bart-Williams is "exceptional" and
are looking to re-open talks, despite a flat refusal from Forest.
Birmingham believe that they can still persuade Bart-Williams to move to St
Andrews - as long as they can agree a fee with Forest, even though he has
pledged to see out his contract at the City Ground and move as a free agent
next summer.
After the club turned down bids of £500,000 and £1million, Blues chairman
David Gold said: "This is not the end of the story. I don't think these sort
of things come to an end. It's what negotiations are all about. Someone says
never will I sell my player for £1.5million and three weeks later he is sold
for £900,000.
"So for me these things are never dead. I am a believer that there are areas
which will benefit both clubs.
"I think it is naive of Nottingham Forest as a businessman to be asking
£1.5million however good he is with a year left on his contract.
"It means that they will effectively be paying him £30,000 a game over and
above his wages for the rest of the season.
"It doesn't make economic sense. I would like to think that both parties
could sit down and work out the sums. They do not add up at £1.5million for
anyone.
"If I was on the board of Nottingham Forest and I had a player who wasn't
comfortable to stay, or that the club could well use some funds, I think the
deal that Birmingham City have offered is exceptional."
Picture: Blues refuse to give up on Bart
Rehab for Rogers on Dutch trip ^top
Alan Rogers will look to step-up his injury rehabilitation during Forest's
trip to Holland, as he fights to return to action.
The England B defender made a return to the field in the closing weeks of
last season after months on the sidelines nursing a knee ligament injury.
However, he suffered a setback soon afterwards and was forced to undergo yet
more surgery.
He hasn't yet been given the all-clear to resume full training but will
carry out rehab work during the Dutch trip.
Santos visit in doubt ^top
Andy Johnson may avoid a potentially fiery showdown with Sheffield United’s
Georges Santos, with whom he clashed at Bramall Lane last March.
The two players were involved in a clash of heads in Forest’s 3-1 victory
over The Blades, which left Santos with serious facial injuries.
The tough French midfielder required reconstructive surgery and had to have
a metal plate inserted to strengthen his cheekbone.
Santos threatened to sue the Forest midfielder over the challenge that left
him with a shattered cheekbone and fractured eye socket, but has since
decided to delay any action.
He made an early return to training recently, but may not be given the
go-ahead for the opening-day game against Forest on August 11, because he
has been told to avoid heading the ball for a while, and will not be risked
if there is any possibility of him suffering a setback.
Blades assistant manager Kevin Blackwell said that it would be pointless to
rush anyone back for the sake of a few weeks.

Rogers confident about Forest's chances ^top
Defender Alan Rogers remains confident Forest can challenge for promotion
this season despite Darren Ward being the only major summer signing.
Goalkeeper Ward has arrived on a free transfer from local rivals Notts
County, but boss David Platt is yet to strengthen the outfield line-up.
Liverpool-born Rogers is not worried by this statistic.
He said: "One or two additions would have been very nice but it wasn't meant
to be."
Forest fans will know that Rogers himself will be a welcome addition, having
missed almost all of the second half of last season through injury.
Platt will hope Rogers can provide the service £3.5million striker David
Johnson thrives on, and chip in with a few goals himself - he notched 11 in
1999/2000, finishing as the club's joint-top goalscorer.

Hello Matt,
As you will read in the membership renewal stuff I sent out, I've asked a
question about such a group. I'll hold off until I get a better idea about
acceptance of it - if there is general acceptance for it, it will become a
basic NFSDU member benefit and members will be automatically added to the
list. If not, I will do the invitation bit.
Thanks for your work - tremendous stuff.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Go the Forest,
Todd Street.
