Hi James
It was 1977 Jan 29th. FA Cup 4th round. Robo scored two, 1 pen.
Woodcock. Alan Ball and Peter Osgood scored for Saints. 38,204
attended. Forest lost the replay 2-1.
This was in our promotion season. Cloughie's first full seson in
charge. We were third in the league at the time. After that defeat we
had two defeats which set the wobbles in but we ended up going up
anyway and the rest is... history.
I went to the game myself but can't remember much about it. Another
Forset home game in the Cloughie era - lots of goals and passion. I
think I'm right in thinking that Southampton were given the Trent End
to make crowd control easier but, sadly, that's my only memory of the
day.
All the best.

draw and must have been some time in the mid 70's. I can remember the
atmosphere more than the game and I also had to stand on a milk
bottle crate in the Bridgford end!

Around the same time I think, my Father took me to Valley Parade to
see Bradford v Tooting and Mitcham and then Bradford v Saints in the
FA Cup quarter final (?) which Saints one 0-1. Dont ask why my early
football initiation seemed to include so much Southampton but I have
retained a soft spot for them!
