Hey guys,
I know this is short notice but is there anyone out there interested in playing this Sunday in Marblehead, MA. Lynn is playing Melrose and it looks like Melrose will be very short. The field we will be playing at is perfect with a wooden grandstand that was built in 1910 http://www.digitalb allparks. com/Amateur/ Marblehead. html We would hate to cancel the game after booking this field. Let me know if there are any takers.

As the lone New England entrant in the 1859america.com "Who Will Have the Balls" contest, we have come to you for support. As of this morning, we were 51 email votes behind in this contest, that ends on Tuesday. We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider voting for our entry, which features Jimmy "Pipes" Cormier performing "Ode to Mudville". This performance was recorded on May 10th on the Boston Common following our 1858 Massachusetts rules contest with the Boston Colonials. To vote for Jimmy, please click on the above link, click the box for Jimmy and the one at the bottom to vote. It takes only a few seconds and is greatly appreciated. If you believe it worthy, please forward it to your team and anyone else who may consider voting. We appreciate your support, and should we win, look forward to seeing you swatting the winning prize around in the near future.
Kyle here in the New Bedford area. I'm still trying to get a team together down here but I don't have enough just yet for a full club.
Essex and Bristol came to Mattapoisett last summer to play an event which drew a pretty good crowd. Mattapoisett has asked me this year if I could organize another vintage game for what is to be an annual heritage celebration.
I am hoping to get a vintage club or two or enough players (for picked nines. I have about 4-5 players here for a team) that want to play a couple of games on August 2 OR 3 (date TBD).
I realize Old Bethpage is that weekend and clubs may already have other commitments that weekend. This is pretty short notice, I just found out about it myself.
We had a pretty good turn out last year and I picked up a couple of players and received some press. I am hoping another event will bring in more players for 2009.
I am open to 1860s or
1880s games. I tried to get a local ball field in case 1880s rules are played but they tell me that it may not be available. In that case we would have to use last years field which was a bit small but worked out for 1861.
So if your club or any individual ball players want to come down that weekend please let me know by JUNE 20 (they gave me a deadline so that they can get their publicity material ready).
I'm not sure who all subscribes to this group so if you could spread the word and I'll most likely send emails to the clubs as well.

Hey,
I know this may be a little last minute but this coming weekend the Lynn Live Oaks had a game scheduled against the Dirgio guys from Maine but unfortunately the Maine guys can't come down. Lynn has around 12 or 13 guys coming to the game so if there is a team or even members of a team that wanted to come on Saturday April 26th 12pm to Danvers please let me know.

Fellow NEV Ballists, I know I put out this request before and some of you have expressed interest in the Hartford St. Patrick's Day parade. It is on Saturday March 15th at 11am.
We usually start the day early at a local watering hole near the start of the parade route. and
gather around 10am for the parade. It would be great if we could get some of the clubs to participate.
You could send the entire team or just a couple of guys. Mudville was gracious enough to help us out last year and they were the hit of the parade. I hope they can come again this year!
We have been marching in the parade for the past 6 years and it has been a great way to kick the season off.
We finish marching around noon and head to a pub to continue the celebrating. Would love to buy you guys a pint!
Hope you can make it!

There is a new vintage base ball podcast available. It's hosted by Jason "Gypsy" Kladiva of the Iron Diamonds BBC in Indiana. You can find it at http://www.1859america.com/ or subscribe through iTunes (search on "vintage baseball").

Seems unfortunate that we are in the heart

or Illinois
for reasonable team insurance rates! Come on all you Connecticut ballists…there
must be some company on Constitution Plaza that can help?

One of the other VBB sites noted that Royko is not offering coverage

recommended group out of Rochester NY for coverage. Anyone one else
got other firms or coverage plan ideas?

We still have to pick a date for your trip to Western Mass to play the
Pioneers. Here are some suggestions:
Friday Night May 23 or 30. We could play 1, 9-inning game or 2, 7-
inning games if you like, and start at 7pm or 8pm. Or whenever you
like. This would be under the lights, obviously.
We could also play Sunday May 25 at noon or Saturday May 24 at 2pm
Sunday June 1 or Sunday July 6 is available.
Sat Aug 9 noon or Sunday Aug 10 noon
After this it would be late September
Thanks

Guys, I honestly didn't think that any of the 60s clubs would care or
even notice that I'd re-purposed the site for the new league. The
site wasn't getting any hits and the vast majority of the underhand
clubs weren't sending updates and scores/directions to games, etc.
I just wanted to make an interactive site for league members to post
info and have discussions, as well as to keep track of standings. I
was not trying to belittle the 60s clubs. I have enjoyed playing '61
games against many of those clubs over the past few years (except the
severe beatings by Waterbury).
Ultimately, I was hoping we might eventually have 4 divisions, with
two '61s and two '86s. Then we could have an 1886 and 1861 champion
each year, which I think would be really cool.
To remedy the problem, I am adding an 1860s section to the site with
links to all the clubs that were on the old site. Brian Sheehy is
going to administer that section, so e-mail him with concerns about
that part of the site. Give me a few days on that, as I now feel the
need to drink...a lot.
Patrick
Only reason I say this is because I gave a talk yesterday near Rhode Island and told several people to check the site to get some info on underhand teams....

Guys, I have transitioned the newenglandvintagebaseball.com site to a blog based setup. It's basically up right now, though not nearly finished. It's a work in progress, but anyone post comments on the site, so it's a good place to discuss league specific topics.
