Hi Guys,
The Pittsfield "ELMS" VBBC is located in Pittsfield, MA. WE are
planning a Vintage Tournament for Memorial Day weekend at Historic
Wahconah Park. We are planning an eight team single eliminate venue,
but will gurantee two games for particiapting teams.I ahve a Board
meeting today to finalize the set-up.
It will probably be a 7 inning game or two hour limit. We will play
1886 rules, which allows gloves.
I'm looking for two more teams to complete the field.
Hartford,Simsbury,Essex,Westfield,Newton Sandy Hook and Pittsfield
are committed.
You can contact me at pprocopio54@... or call me at : Home:
413-447-7769 or school: 413-684-0780 ext. #1207.
I know there are some new teams out there who might like to
participate. The Colonials? A new New Hampshire team? The New
Hampshire "Granites". The Providence "Hens " have a committment and
will not participate. We were hoping to return a favor to them for
inviting us to their Classic last year.
Wishing all another great year of fun and entertainment for the
players and fans of Vintage Base Ball.
Yours in VBB, Paul Procopio- President and Manager of the "ELMS"
Did John Lucker respond to you yet from the Simsbury Taverneers? When is the tournament? We play 1886 era and would like to participate depending upon the date. If John's gotten back to you already, sorry.

-------------- Original message -------------- From: "game_hens" <game_hens@...> Hey guys, thanks for the responses for the Vintage Ballist's Tournament. We're basically looking to have eight teams in the 1886 group, and 8 in the 1861 group. Right now we have basically half of the committments we need, which is nice because this has only been put out on this forum, and only recently. I will take care of all the administrative issues, but I want this to be fun for all involved, so any suggestions will be taken into serious consideration. I'd like to see if any of the clubs who haven't talked with me about it might be interested (Providence, Hartford, Westfield, Bristol, et, al...). Let me know when you can. Thanks. -Blue Game Hens
Hey everyone,
We are nearing the one month mark of this group and I just had to
say that I am encouraged by the participation and the number of
teams that are now in the area. I figured I would name all of the
teams that are represented and then if people know of any other
teams not on this list please forward this on to them.
Teams 15 so far? (sorry if I left a team out who is already a
member)
Essex Base Ball Club and Lynn Live Oaks- Danvers, MA
Bristol Blues- Bristol RI
Westfield Wheelman- Westfield, MA
Cornish Game Hens- Providence, RI
NH Granite- Nashua, NH
Mudville Nine- MA
Simsbury Taverneers- Simsbury, CT
Dirigo Nine- Maine
Newtown Sandy Hooks- Newtown, CT
Melrose Pondfeilders, Melrose MA
Hartford Senators- Hartford CT
Boston Colonials- Boston, MA
Waterbury Connors- Waterbury, CT
Providence Grays- Providence, RI
I would also like to remind people of the Team Contact Info that
John Simmons put together (it is in the files section) anyone can
edit the material and add their teams contact info so that new teams
or existing teams can contact you.
If you have not done so please feel free to add your team's web site
to the links section. Id also like to say I like Chris Moran's poll-
if others have poll ideas please feel free to make them. In response
to Chris's poll question I def think all teams have different
approaches to vintage base ball and I am very interested in the
results. I know this is a topic that was raised in the NEVBBL at
our league meeting so I am curious on how other teams feel. If
people want to post stuff in the files section (rules/ articles/
etc) please feel free to do so. There is also a pictures section if
people want to use that section as well.

edit the poll's choices)
o Educate yourself and the public about a particular era of base ball
o Historical accuracy
o Good sportsmanship and competitive play

Hi folks,
My name is Brett Lahde, and I am a member of a new club out of Boston,
the Colonials. Although we are an 1886 ballclub, we will happily play
any style of baseball, anywhere you all can give us a game. With
regards to home and away games, it would be better to schedule games
on our field in the later months of the season - July, August,
September - while letting us travel to you in the earlier months. In
addition, if any of you are predisposed to play on Sundays, rather
than Saturdays, we are happy to meet you then, as well. I look

Gentleman,
I would like introduce myself to the members here. My name is
Andy "Bishop" Cunningham. I am a member of the Melrose Pondfeilders.

The Melrose Pondfeilders are located in Massachusetts 6 miles North of
Boston. Our team is a member of the New England Vintage Base Ball
League and we have been playing vintage ball since September of 2001.
Our team generally plays the rulesets from 1860 through 1876.
We look forward to meeting and playing with you in the coming seasons!
Brian's right. We spent days with one reporter and all he wrote about was injuries. I thought your article was great and hopefully it helps you guys get some well deserved credit and recognition for what you have accomplished to date.

Dont feel bad about a few errors. Last season we had about 11 articles written on the Essex/ Lynn clubs and Id say 3 or 4 of them were quality pieces on vintage base ball and our team. At times reporters like to focus on how you got involved or how quirky vintage is. Those articles usually result in little interest, and some razzing from my
teammates because it either talks just about me or I said some stupid quote. I just got a call a few weeks back from a retired woman who writes a small piece in the local paper on clubs or organizations, and she decided why not write it on our club. Im really interested in this piece because the woman had no clue about baseball.

Thanks Brian for your effort to give us a forum...I'll have to see
how this calendar works and see if there are ways to share
calendars and simplify the scheduling process.
Who's this Maine contingent? Where are you out of, and do you
have a team in place? Don't say Skowhegan or we may never
meet! In all seriousness, let us know if any of us can help in any
way.
Best wishes to all and Merry Christmas -- next week we can
begin working seriously on filling up our schedues.

Hello all. John Lucker and I just joined the Yahoo Group and we're just getting around to setting up the schedule for the Simsbury Taverneers (www.simsburytaverneers.com) in Simsbury, CT. We play any era but prefer the 1884 and 1886 rules and like to do mixed rules double-headers (with an overhand era game followed by an underhand era). We would love to host anyone to our fair town for a match (and post-match celebration at our sponsor Pettibone's Tavern). Please let us know if you have room on your schedule and would like to set something up.
This is a great step forward and I congratulate you for your efforts.

Hey Everyone,
I apologize for not doing this first, I got caught up with Christmas shopping. Well to introduce myself I am from the Essex Base Ball Organization. We are made up of two teams the Essex Base Ball Club (I am the captain) and the Lynn Live Oaks (I serve kind of as the GM for them). Both teams are out of Danvers, MA and are members of the New England Vintage Base Ball League. In 2006 Essex will be entering its fifth season and Lynn will be going into its second. Both teams usually play 1861 rules but are always open to trying new rule sets and have already talked with a few teams about trying some 1880's. We are always open to traveling and look forward to meeting new teams out there. I am happy that people are joining this list and very encouraged by the possibilities of it.

this coming week...e-mail me (game_hens@...) if you want to set
something up...we will again play all styles of VBB this season so
we're open to play anyone...thanks...see you on the field.
Guys:
I created a simple text file where we can all put our team contact
information. I think it would be very useful to have all of the
contact information for every New England team in one place.
I believe you click on "Files" and you will see "Team Contact Info" as
a file. To the right of the file, click "edit" and you should be able
to make changes.

Hello Fellow New England Ballists,
We are a start-up, 1886 vintage team and are based in the Springfield
Massachusetts area. I began forming this club in the fall of 2005,
have gathered some good sponsorship and have begun to schedule our
season. I currently have a solid group of nine players and a goal to
get to 15. I am recruiting heavily to get to that magic number. If any
team in the eastern part of the state has lost any players because
they had to move to the western part of the state we would love to
talk to him. Please email me his contact information. I also would
welcome any thoughts on how other teams recruit.
Thank you
Hey everyone,
I want to welcome everyone to this groups page. Like I said vintage
base ball is really thriving in New England and with so many new teams
coming up we should have something where teams can introduce
themselves to other teams. Teams can try to get games, make contacts,
or just talk some baseball. This forum is really open to whatever
people want to make it.
I think that everyone who joins should introduce themselves and their
club, maybe say where they usually play and what era they play. Teams
are welcome to put their web sites on the links section as well.
