Gentlemen:
The Simsbury Taverneers had not originally desired to join a league because of the logistical challenges we have been facing to field a team for too many games. As many of you have also experienced, as we all get older (more vintage!) our family, work, volunteer coaching, etc commitments tend to conflict more and more with our vintage base ball plans. So the Simsbury Taverneers have worked to arrange a modest game schedule of about 8-10 dates plus the VBB tournament in Westfield.
However after reviewing the recent email from Patrick Reilly it looks like the West Division is mostly composed of teams that we had planned to arrange games with anyway. So I wanted everyone to know that the Simsbury Taverneers will participate in the league.
I will be sending out an email to the West Division teams today to work to schedule games with them. We have only just begun to plan our schedule so hopefully we can schedule with teams. I am concerned that teams are scheduling earlier and earlier. In the past the end of January was the unofficial deadline but it now looks like people are scheduling in October and November which to me seems too early given the challenges of scheduling fields, etc. Our town doesn't even allow field scheduling for the following year until December.
We will have to see how the October playoff game idea goes as fall is often challenging given coaching and family commitment schedules. We have never yet played a game beyond Labor Day in the 4 years of our existence.
There are a few East division teams that I will email also to try and schedule a game with since we often have played them too (Colonials, Grays).
Thanks and we look forward to seeing many of you on the field in 2008. Huzzah!
