Re: [newenglandvintagebaseball] Vintage Football in New England

Patrick,

Good game yesterday.  We always enjoy playing against you guys.  Let's move on forming a league and putting together the teams and schedule for next year.  I am thinking that we should only have a 4, maybe 5 team league, since most of the other teams are too far away and seem to do their own thing anyway.  Most leagues start with only a handful of teams and then grow over time.  A solid league would be:

Hens
Colonials
Granite
Cadets
and possibly the Senators for the 5th team

Each team plays each other 3 times (9-12 games) and we could have a one game tournament style playoff where:

4 plays 1, 3 plays 2 (5th place is out of post-season if 5 teams)

The championship could be best 2 out of 3 over 2 weekends.

I will email Brett and Grit and see if they definitely want to do it.  If they are in, then we should set up a meeting over the winter with the team captains and managers to work out a set of rules (equipment upgrades, post-season, allstar game, umpires, etc.) and a league schedule.  I really want to see this happen and bring more stability to vintage baseball in this area.  We have lost several good players over the past 2 years to other organized baseball leagues and I'd hate to see interest in this great game decline.  I'll contact the other teams and see what the interest is and we can all get together and make it happen.  I am also thinking we should just make Cleveland Circle (or another Boston area field) the main field that we use for the league.  If we can get a permit for that every Saturday at noon from April to October, it would make it very easy to schedule.  Plus, most of the players on our teams are within 30-45 minutes of Boston.  Just a thought...

Thanks for a great year.  Let me know when the vintage football game is.  I'll definitely ref.  Should be fun.

John

club in the Boston area. The club will need 22 players to form two
teams, and will play 3-4 games throughout the winter. I have all the
info on gear. It will cost around $100 per man to play. We will play
by the NCAA rules of 1912, which includes the forward pass. If you
are interested in playing, send me an e-mail at preilly1980@gmail.com.

Don't be a baby, I weigh 170lbs and I'm not afraid...
