Double A - Game One
==================================
Josh McKinley had two RBI and Ron Chiavacci pitched six strong innings as the
Harrisburg Senators edged the New Britain Rock Cats, 3-2, in the first game of a
doubleheader.
McKinley opened the scoring with a third-inning RBI single before breaking a 2-2
tie with a run-scoring base hit in the fifth. Chiavacci (1-3) allowed two runs
and just one hit, walking three and striking out six, to pick up the win. Chuck
Crumpton entered the game with the go-ahead runs on base and retired the one
batter he faced to notch his second save. Scott Ackerman led off the third
inning with his seventh homer for Harrisburg, which won its fifth consecutive
game.
Jeff Deardorff tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning for New Britain with
his third longball of the year, a two-run shot. Brent Schoening (4-3)
surrendered three runs and six hits over four innings to take the loss for the

From the Miracle Website:
The Fort Myers Miracle took the first game of the big showdown with the Dunedin
Blue Jays 3-0 on Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium.
The All-Star pitching match-up lived up to its billing, but J.D. Durbin of the
Miracle was a little better than Jesse Harper of the Blue Jays. Durbin hurled
seven innings allowing just six hits, while walking one and striking out two. He
picked up his eighth victory of the season. Harper went five innings allowing
two runs on seven hits, while striking out six and received his first loss of
the season.
The Miracle got all the runs they would need in the first inning. With James
Tomlin on at third, Harper unleashed a wild pitch and Tomlin scored to put the
Miracle up 1-0. They got another run in the fourth on an RBI single from Garrett
Jones and capped off the scoring with a sac fly from James Tomlin in the
seventh. Joe Mauer went 2-4 with a run and has now hit safely in 17 straight
which ties the longest hitting streak in the FSL in 2003. Tomlin also extended
his hitting streak to 13. The Miracle now lead the Blue Jays by two games and
their magic number to clinch a playoff berth is six.

The Minnesota Twins had been the only team in the majors not to lose when
leading after seven innings. Barry Bonds needed only one pitch to end that
streak.
After his teammates rallied from a two-run deficit to tie the game in the eighth
inning, Bonds delivered the game-winning single off Juan Rincon with two outs in
the ninth, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 victory.
With the game tied, 3-3, Jose Cruz Jr. drew a one-out walk against Rincon (1-2)
and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Marquis Grissom struck out, Ray
Durham and Rich Aurilia walked to load the bases, the latter on a controversial
call on a full count.
"I don't know what to say," Rincon said. "I thought I made a good pitch. I
thought it was a good pitch. As soon as I threw the ball I thought it was in
there. The umpire didn't think the same thing I did."
"Barry Bonds I didn't think should have even been at the plate," Twins manager
Ron Gardenhire said. "That's disappointing. That's all I'm going to say about
it. Somebody tell me what happened at the end. I don't know what happened at
the end."
Bonds promptly sent Rincon's first offering into right field to plate Cruz and
secure the Giants' sixth victory in eight games.
"Unfortunately, I left the pitch up in the middle and he hit it," Rincon said.
"At least they're not going to walk him," Giants manager Felipe Alou said of
Bonds, who was intentionally walked in the eighth inning. "So they made sure to
throw him some strikes and he got one."
Tim Worrell (2-2) struck out two batters in the top of the ninth to record the
win.
Minnesota had been a perfect 25-0 when leading after seven innings.
"Of course you want to win games," Aurilia said. "You don't want to have to win
games in the ninth inning. They're always a little bit sweeter. It was a big
win in the sense that we came back and I saw a stat yesterday or today where
they didn't lose a game when leading after seven innings, so it was good to come
back against their bullpen and get a big win."
The Twins held a 3-1 advantage entering the eighth, when Cruz led off with a
walk against Brad Radke and scored on Grissom's double. Durham greeted J.C.
Romero with a single before Aurilia belted a ground-rule double against LaTroy
Hawkins to tie the game.
But after intentionally walking Bonds to load the bases, Hawkins induced Benito
Santiago to ground to second baseman Luis Rivas, who threw home for a forceout.
The former Twins closer then struck out J.T. Snow and got Edgardo Alfonzo to hit
into a forceout to avoid further damage.
Minnesota took a 1-0 lead on Torii Hunter's RBI double in the first against
Jerome Williams, who was making his second career start. It added two runs in
the third on a run-scoring single by Corey Koskie and an RBI groundout by Doug
Mientkiewicz.
San Francisco climbed within 3-1 in the fourth on an RBI triple by Bonds that
just got under the glove of a diving Hunter in center field.
Williams, who surrendered five runs in four innings in a 10-2 loss at
Philadelphia in his April 26 debut, allowed three runs and five hits in 6 2/3
frames. He exited the contest after appearing to twist his ankle covering first
base on a foul ball by Jacque Jones in the seventh.
"He's OK," Alou said. "He twisted his foot a little bit. (It was) just the
innings and the situation, we took him out just to make sure."
"I'm just real confident I could be there," Williams said. "I showed tonight
that I can pitch. I can pitch with the best. Hopefully, this will probably make
me stay here. The first start I was nervous. Now, coming out here, second
game, I didn't feel nervous. I just went out and pitched."
Giants reliever Jason Christiansen, who got the final out in the eighth inning,
made his first appearance since April 17, 2002. He missed most of last season
after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery.
"That was awesome," Worrell said. "That was the highlight of the night. It was
nice to come back like we did, but after going through the surgery he had it
made it more special. Personally, it pumped me up seeing him out there."

this is your first chance to buy individual tickets for the 2003
season. It should be lots of fun.
Like most people, I've had some trouble with credit in the past. For
a long time I haven't been able to find a company that would give me
a credit card at all. I found this site and I just had to share it
with the rest of the group. It has all sorts of credit cards, some
are guaranteed to be approved no matter what your credit history is
like. Also, they have gold and platinum cards and offer free services
for credit reports. You got to see this site.

Congratulations to the Minnesota Twins, the New Britain Rock Cats
parent club, as they won their first game of the season 8 to 6
against
the Kansas City Royals. Way to go!
The Home Opener for your New Britain Rock Cats in this Friday April
5th. Game time is 6:05 vs. the Portland Sea Dogs. Good luck to all
the Cats as they start the 2002 season
What a way to celebrate his birthday but on his birthday March 27
Cuddyer was sent down to AAA Edmonton. With the way he has played
during spring training don't be surprised though if Cuddyer gets
called back up to the Twins real soon. Good luck Mike!
With the final roster for this years Cats not named yet, it is known
that this years team will have a lot of new faces and will be hard to
top the season that last years Rock Cat team had. Also a reminder
that the season and home opener for your Cats is Friday April 6th as
the defending Eastern League co-champion New Britain Rock Cats take
on the Portland Sea Dogs at New Britain Stadium. Game time for the
home opener is 6:05 PM. Good luck to this years team.
I couldn't believe it when I read the news of
Marcinczyk being cut by the Twins. I was at his first game
as a Rock Cat and remeber it well when he got his
first homerun off of Trenton Thunder's Jin Ho Cho. I
was thinking being partly a Red Sox fan how bad Cho
was pitching in that game, seing the fact that he was
up with the Sox for part of last year. Also at that
game, I had bought a baseball and got it signed by nine
of the Rock Cat players and he happened to be one of
them. Then when he hit the homerun I remember that
someone pointed out that his family was at the game
sitting on the third base side of the stadium. I thought
to myself that this is a guy I should be keeping an
eye out for. It is just too bad that a hometown guy
like him had to be let go. T.R. we will miss seeing
you play for the Rock Cats and wish you the best of
luck.
Well Tomorrow is the game everyone has been
waiting for. Just hope the big club does't make our club
look too bad! In case your going to the game and
haven't heard the pregame homerun derby is going to start
at about 4:30 PM. Hope to see you there it should be
fun.
While the pitching is indeed excellent, last
night, against the Navigators, the Rock Cats' bats came
alive with a 14 hit attack. I had been concerned over
the weekend about hitting, but last night's
performance showed me that we indeed have both pitching and
hitting.
It is sure good to see that the pitching is as
good as advertised. The Rock Cats are second in the
league in overall team pitching. Without it the Cats
would be pretty bad considering they are third from the
bottom in overall team batting. Lets just hope the Rock
Cats can get their bats going to help their pitchers.
Here are the Rock Cats players to watch for
this
season as determined by the Hartford Courent. 3B Mickael
Cuddyer (.263, 6 HR, 61 RBI at New Britain), RHP Adam
Johnson (5-4, 2.47 ERA, 92 K's at Fort Myers), LHP Brad
Thomas (6-2, 1.66 ERA in fort Myers; 6-6, 4.06 ERA in
New Britain), RHP Juan Rincon (3-9, 4.65 ERA for
New
Britain), C Brandon Marsters (.310, 7 HR, 77 RBI at Fort
Myers), and RHP Grant Balfour (8-5, 4.25 ERA at Fort
Myers).
RHP Matt Kinney and C Chad Moeller were cut from
the big-league team and assigned to Class AAA
Edmonton. Other minor league roster moves: RHP Ken Pumphrey
from New Britain to Edmonton; OF Michael Restovich, 3B
Steve Goodell, SS Juan Lorenzo, and 1B Tim Giles from
Edmonton to New Britain . C Gabby Torres, IF Kyle
Hawthorne, IF Luis Gonzales and OF Brian McMillan from New
Britain to Ft. Myers.
Looks like the pitching rotation for the Rock
Cats this year is set. here is the projected roster in
this order: Adam Johnson, Brad Thomas, Kyle Lohse,
Juan Rincon, and Ryan Mills. Johnson was the Twins' #1
draft pick in 2000 and is currently the Twins' #1
prosprect. The other four starters are on the Twins' 40 man
roster. This looks to be on of the Rock Cats best rosters
ever.
I started to post some of the Rock Cats 2001
schedule on the calendar and will post more of the
schedule as time allows. If by chance I don't post the
whole schedule you can view their schedule at
www.rockcats.com.
Thanks,
Daniel Narvesen
The baseball season is not that far away and i

there.

series since April 14-16 at Trenton. They are 2-4-3 in
series this year. Before Fisher's start yesterday on
5/7/00, 4 of last 5 starters had been impressive. (Fisher

26H, 11ER, 3BB, 15K, 3.67ERA) However, the bullpen has
been beaten up for 2 losses during its' the last
games.(6g, 12.86 ERA, 16.1IP, 31H, 23ER )
If the Rock Cats are going to loose at least they
lost to the Thunder, who is affiliated with the Red

good, the Rock Cats look like they are reverting to
their old ways of last year. Hopefully the Cats can
turn thing around quickly.
